- Greetings! In this new video Josh demonstrates the monstrous Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier!
Running through the various tones available using a Gibson Les Paul Custom with Suhr Doug Aldrich Humbuckers and a Warmoth Telecaster with Suhr Classic T pickups.
Enjoy!
Your left hand is beast... Your picking hand is a maniac. So much control it's amazing. Really awesome playing.
These amps are great when you figure out how to dial them in. Very interactive tone controls. Not your standard plug and play rig. They process really well too. You don't have to attack them to get them to respond. Extremely sensitive preamps. Fun.
@galego111 Thanks a lot dude :) On channel 1 I was on the clean switch, Gain = 12 o'clock, Volume/Master = 11-12 o'clock, Presence = 11 o'clock, Bass = 1 o'clock, Treble = 1 o'clock, Middle = 12 o'clock.
Channel 2 & 3 Vintage switch, Gain 1-2 o'clock, Volume = 12-1 o'clock, Presence = 11 o'clock, Bass = 1 o'clock, Treble = 1 o'clock, Middle = 12 o'clock.
Then I kicked on the BB Preamp for a little more gain and sustain. That's generally how I set all the amps I play through.
Awesome review!
Les paul sounded exceptionally good through it.
Fantastic job Josh!
Your reviews are awesome. Really good playing.
Thanks for the comment. It's not a matter of which is better, both are great amps. But the 3 channel model is more versatile as you have the extra channel. It really depends on if you want the added versatility or are happy with just having 2 channels.
Thanks for the kind words. The Boogie is a very versatile and I much prefer it to the JVM. You'll probably have to put an overdrive pedal in front of it to push it into the thrash metal territory, because contrary to what people think the Dual Rec is very unforgiving with not as much gain on tap as you would think.
Fantastic amp. I've got one and when you know how it works then it is an amazing sound amp. It has a knob at the back of it that can adjust the wattage.
Hands down, the best amp on the planet.
my dream amp!
Thank you very much for the kind words dude
Thanks, this Dual Rec is one of the older ones without the 100-50 power switches.
death to all but metal! tone of the Gods mate, well done
glad to hear something other than stereotypical metal (like every other video for this amp) on this amp! it has more features than fingertapping for amateurs! great job!
@RonnieD50 Thanks :) I can't remember exactly, I think both controls were set around 12 o'clock.
Good demo, good playing. Thanks :)
Nevermind josh,i see u answered both questions below.thanks and keep rockin!
Awesome demo, Josh!! Killer Amp and playing! i have the same amp with jj's in the preamp. Love the vintage mode...Greets
P.S.: DEATH TO ALL BUT METAL!!!
Thanks! I just realized you answered my question in the video ha ha. I must have not seen the first minute where you say it is an older dual rec
Great amp...sold my jvm to get one of these,best thing I ever did!!!!! Jvm is an expensive fake thin amp for guys who just want to play drop power chords all day...the mesa is for people who know tone and have talent
Heather Deline I sadly own a JVM and I agree, the JVM is junk. How's the Dual Recto? Is it decent at low volumes? And how are the clean tones?
DivyanshPal it is a great amp just takes some time to dial.The cleans are great.This is a strange amp,meaning for a high gain amp..it seems to react better with high output pickups for the dirt channels.I find that using the rectifier tubes with the bold or spongy option is the way to go.The spongy plus tube rectifier acts like a hotplate slash variac perfect for a brown sound or bed room playing.Really smooth and chunky.Bedroom volumes are great...but that also is dependent on your speakers.I put 2 25 watt greenbacks on top of nicely broken in vintage 30's and it is killer.This amp with the proper tweaking can sound like the ultimate marshall...Almost a Joe Holmes from Farmikos tone.And yes the jvm is totall crap very digital sounding and noise from hell lol cheers
Also dIivyansh Pal never use the modern setting vintage mode all the way still has plenty of gain put an over drive in front and your good to go.I traded my jvm for this amp and put them side by side and the mesa destroyed it...but the trader wanted the jvm...probably because it said Marshall on it..it is more like a line 6 in person really but to each his own.Hope all that info helps....if you only have 1 amp this is the one that does it all...you can even pull 2 power tubes safely and 1 recto tube for even better bedroom playing
Heather Deline Thank you so much for all the info! The Recto sounds like an awesome amp, way better than the Line 6 sounding JVM haha. Cheers!
I was just about to ask if anyone knew about the low-volume capabilities of these amps because I have wanted to dual rectifier for the last 14 years. Unfortunately, I keep hearing horror stories about how it's the last amp you should choose to jam in the bedroom with. I know it wouldn't be ideal but now that I have a chance to get one, I think I'm going to go ahead and do it even though I'm only a bedroom Jammer.
@submit1 Thanks a lot man. Channel 1 Clean switch Gain 12 o'clock Mid 11 o'clock Treble 1-2 o'clock Bass 12 o'clock Presence 11 o'clock. Channel 2 Vintage Switch Gain 1-2 o'clock Treble 2 o'clock Mid 12 o'clock Bass 1 o'clock Presence 11 o'clock. Volumes were all around 12-1 o'clock.
Channel 3 had pretty much the same settings as channel 2, but with a bit more volume.
3'40 : Richie's tone!!
again, great demo
Great demo Josh! It takes some effort to really pull a great tone out of that amp. I ended up parting parting with mine but after seeing what a boost can do for leads this is definitely a desirable amp again. I am really curious to see how the mini rectifier sounds in person compared to the full sized ones.
dude you rock!
Thanks a lot for that comment dude, it's taken a lot of time to develop.
At first I thought you were going to play In My Darkest Hour by Megadeth :') Love your style of playing :) The country licks are extremely catchy hahah and another great review man
Thanks dude :D
@Darthmaller he says at the start suhr Doug aldrich signature humbuckers
Hi Josh, I´m danny from México I want to ask you about which one is better? The Engater Tourmaster 4100 or hte Dual Rectifier. I play hard Rock!!! Thank's.
you are indeed an excellent guitar player!!!!!!! I admire you!
@alfredoguy Thanks a lot man. It was interesting comparing it to my Diezel and Egnater, which are both effortless to play through. After tweaking the Mesa it became slightly easier, and the results were great. The BB Preamp added just a touch more gain making the faster runs flow better.
I'm going to see if I can get me hands on a mini Rectifier to demo :)
Cheers Josh, I will give it a try. \m/
@hmforever Do it man, the Aldrich humbuckers are the best replacement p'ups for a Les Paul. I was running the head through my Egnater 4x12 cab with Vintage 30's.
@edguyrocks Thanks man, I highly recommend the Carbon Copy! Sounds fantastic, it's probably my favourite pedal.
Thanks for the response Josh, I gave it a go but found that the MXR delay sounded mushy and quiet in the effects loop??? even after adjusting the loop level, any ideas?, It does not effect the sound when plugged infront of the amp only in the loop.
@Destroyerrrrrr06 Haha cheers! I'll see if I can borrow it again to do some drop tuned recordings.
Hey Josh, I have just bought the Mesa dual Rec multi watt, great tones totally impressed with it. Question to you is that i have previously used rack effects, being the TC G major 2, but I am now using a carbon copy delay, what settings have you are you using on the MXR?
Thanks Dave
Hey josh,great video and playing.you are an amazing player.could u explain though if channel 3 was vintage or modern setting.you never really said. Thanks.also,for your style playing do you prefer the dual rec or the jvm? Thanks so much for your reply!
Regen = 7 o'clock, Mix = 11 o'clock, Delay = 4 o'clock. MOD switch engaged :)
@galego111 No worries bud. I use Ernie Ball 10-52 gauge strings on all of my electrics. Slinky on the top for lead playing and heavy bottoms for riffing :)
Hey Josh, great demonstration !!! can you please tell your settings from the back ? bold, spongy vacuum, silicon diodes
@testing123reviews thanks for your review on the bogner
now i would like to know a few questions about this if that is ok
does it need a boost in ch-3 for modern metal tones like older recs usally do ?
Nice man!
Nice tone,Whats your effects loop settings??Send and return?
@dusted04 Channel 3 sounds great on it's own, but if you want more gain for solos a OD pedal would be great. It will also work well to get heavier rhythm tones as well.
@testing123reviews Thanks for the quick reply! I'll probably look into one then.
@Titomansane1 It was set on Bold, with the Vacuum Tubes
Good shout on the Steel Panther. haha.
Hey brother, what do you do to have a terrific tone as this one on video? I'm pretty much impressed, the best mesa tone I ever heard. Congrats =)
...someones being working out XD digging the tone dude , could you do a demo with a drop tune guitar ?
When you describe the setting on the vintage mode (gain at 1 or 2 o´clock, master at 1 o'clock, etc.). How high is the setting of the output? Are you using the solo? if yes, which setting? Thank you very much
I'm impressed by your playing, do you do any teaching stuff online?
The amp sounds amazing, I've got an Egnater 88. Very nice but isn't quite defined or controlled enough for me at high gain settings.
HI, how does the dual rectifier go with a stoner rock sound? Can you get that out of it? Cause most demo's focus on its metal sound. You do that less, so I tought asking you :).
I'm looking for something that can handle sounds ranging from classical rock to hard rock. With emphasis on stoner ;). I've played this one once, but it's too long ago to remember it well and I was wondering now if it's worth the effort to get my hands on one again to test it. Thanks ;)
@kryptex09 I think this amp would be great for stoner rock, particularly channel 2 on the 'Vintage' setting to get that fat sag, with plenty of bite and punch. There is plenty of gain too if you want to push further for hi-gain tones.
Hope that helps
May we have the settings for those channels please? Great tone my brotha. Do you know the year on it?
@ZacArmgard Gain - 11 o'clock Treble - 1 o'clock Bass - 12 o'clock Volume - 11 o'clock
Hi man! You make great reviews about the amps, congratulations!
I want to ask you about which one is better? The dual rectifier or the Marshall JVM210H? I actually play in a cover band but I love to play anything, from heavy metal to thrash metal, death metal, and I don't know which of those two is better. Can you help me??
@testing123reviews Really thanks man, I'm going to try these settings, I have never used a boost pedal, I'll try either.
So, I have a LP either, what strings do you use, 0.09 or 0.10?
'Cause I see that you play very smooth, and my LP is a little 'hard' to play
Thanks a lot!
Josh what do u think is best for a wide range of modern rock, this or the Marshall jvm? App feedback
Hi, amazing sound. Can you tell the EQ you were using in this vid for channel 3? Thanks
@testing123reviews after watching your vids i think i have come to the conclusion i like the dual rec with guitars that dont have emgs in em
@SoundLoungeNo1 Thanks man RAWK!!!
I love!! that amp and I have one.
Nice playing man! Is this a reborn dual rec? Solo dual rec?
I've the same head, after this video i'm considering to change my LP Custom pickups........ these Suhr's sound great!!!. What cab are you using?
Thank a lot!
PD: Steel panther rules!!! lol!!!!
How would you compare this amp whith the JVM ?
Thanks
Josh, is this the newer multi watt Dual Rec?
@SlaughterSwitchBlade Thanks bud \m/
Josh is the dual rec moded ? or plain stock
@shredtilyurdead Thanks bud. It did sound tasty :D
'Losin My Mind' by Richie Kotzen
what pickups are in your les paul?
i wish i could make my recto sound that good haha
what would you choose, the dual rectifier or the JVM 410h?
Its the kid from HomeAlone but he's all grown up and playing guitar
😂😂😂
@chavTorturer Cheers dude, hopefully Satchel would be proud lol XD
Never mind the amp, we've heard it before... check out your playing lol sweeeeeet
Sure thing, Vintage switch, gain 2 o'clock, mids 12 o'clock, treble 1 o'clock, bass 12 o'clock, presence 11 o'clock, volume 1 o'clock.
@brunocamposguitar This is a different animal. Surprisingly this amp has less gain than the JVM, at least to my ear anyway. The JVM's clean sound isn't the greatest, too thin and not as warm as the Mesa. JVM's overdrive channels have great low and high end, but I think the Mesa slays it on the low end and mid range frequencies. Both amps are really versatile with their switching systems, but if I had to choose between the 2, I'd go with the Mesa.
@richiepowa Thanks bro :)
That's very odd, I'm not sure how to fix that.
Rektifier. Have the gain at 4/20.
6L6's or EL34's?
@bbck15 I'd get the Boogie! :)
6L6's
U WOT M8
Egnater??? You must be joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!
