The roads are a real hassle for now, the whole country is going through a major road expansion, hence there may be periods where the roads are blocked to continue the construction. Hope you enjoy Nepal, I hope you are planning to travel to Pokhara and Chitwan too!

If you guys are still in kathmandu do visit Nagarkot(Hill near Bhaktapur). You can park you van in nagarkot picnic spot and experience beautiful sunset and sunrise. Roads are pretty good too.

You could have gone through Narayanghat which has a much better route. A direct route from Hetauda to Kathmandu is under construction and you would certainly have felt the pain.
Welcome to Nepal, but you have to wait for maybe few weeks or a month and you will realise the real beauty of the country when you get the tallest mountains in the world in your videos in background. Enjoy your stay!!
