I play Inesis 500 irons, wedges, Driver, hybrid and balls. Inesis golf bag and glove. Absolutely top value and great quality. Clubs are forgiving yet robust Best clubs I have used since my G10s and that's saying something as they changed my game at the time. Stay safe and thanks
I live in a place with almost no second hand market and have a hard time getting left handed clubs but I was able to order a full set of Inesis 500s. The high lofted driver helped me tame my slice and the irons are really easy to hit. My Driver, 3W, 4H, 5-PW and 2 wedges cost me less than 1000 Pounds equivalent. I am a 15 hdcp and these clubs will do fine for my twice a month golf. Very happy that they are getting some love, keep up the great vids mate.
I'm not surprised, Decathlon has been a saviour when getting sports wquipment of all kinds for my kids and me when they want to try something out. For golf I've only ever bought balls and gloves but never been disappointed with anything out of there.
Maddest trick putt yet Simon! I made a special trip to the Milton Keynes Decathlon due to some UA-cam videos I’d seen and they didn’t have a single golf club in there, but they did have about 3 aisles for horse riding!
The inesis golf balls are really good too. Distance 100 and Soft 500 both relatively cheap (6.99 for the cheapest). The matte finish is really nice too
Decathlon is just goated if you want to find quality sports equipment for your enthusiast/youth/weekend warrior needs. Their in-house products are perfect for the market in that regard.
One important factor is the brand snobbery within golf. Although perhaps great value at £149 , golfers want to be seen with the big names. The big brands in golf should be looking at this club and figuring out how they can get a budget driver on the market for this price point.
Can you review the MacGregor Mactec X2 Driver with adjustable loft. It’s available at American Golf for £169.99 and I believe it’s just been released recently.
Mr. SAS- I have a suspicion that new drivers at 3 to 4 times the price of this one could also be marketed for a similar lower price and still be profitable for the manufacturers.
Problem with those big manufacturers is that they're paying premium for their marketing. Tour players not only get their clubs for free, but also get money to use those products. Add to that all the R&D costs and the usual marketing costs (that are also higher than with these smaller brands) and there's no way thay could sell those for this price. They could most likely sell them for ceaper though, but their owners also want premium profits...
Got my callaway gbb subzero for $175 CAD. Honestly i just think used is the way to go if your new to the game or not looking to fork out crazy cash and still keep performance
Hippo are even better value - driver £119 adjustable! Irons & 174 a set!! I've tried both Inesis 500 irons and Hippo. Hippo give custom fit over the phone which sadly Decathlon don't. Great review as always.
I have recently come back to golf after 27 years of not playing. Bought a box set of inesis for £179 and they work for me. Fully respect the comment about second hand value but i know that if i had bought second hand clubs now, rather than the inesis "high handicap" range, i would have selected clubs that would have made my life more difficult (but they would look good). I was willing to swallow the inesis cost now and if golf works out for me upgrade in the future.
My impression is that this is almost perfect for the occasional business golfer or other golfer who (i) plays 2-3 rounds a year and (ii) will be keeping the club for 5-years or more. There are a lot of such golfers who just want to go out with friends or colleagues and need something easy to hit. A cheap high-loft driver is perfect (or a driver length 3-wood). I certainly wouldn't put this type of golfer into a 9-degree. On the other hand, as you've mentioned, if they're starting the game and envision themselves quickly working down to a sub-20 handicap over the course of a season, they're likely better off with used pro-line equipment. Just my quick take.
Decathlon is awesome. Inesis is awesome. I don’t have any clubs but I have their shoes, rangefinder, trousers and balls - all of which are great and 30-50% discount vs traditional brands
So that looks very similar to the Top Flite driver I got at Dicks Sporting Goods in America. It retails at $149. I got it on sale for $89. Been using it for a few months now with no issues. Performance seems comparable to more expensive models.
I have one of the next to my home aDecathlon with one of the biggest golf sections I have seen, the do profesional fittings with a simulator and do outrageous deals with taylormade, I got a SIM driver last year for 200 Euros. So it depends on your local shop, there are some more specialized than others.
I have an inesis 52 degree wedge and I love it. It was €60 great big head on it no ideas what the shaft is even made of but I really like it. I play off 6.
Late comment - the new Inesis driver 900 is due out these days. a bit smaller, and targeting lower handicap players. Worth a bit of look and search. It's awaited. It's supposed to retail about 300 Euros. So instead of one third, they target half price compared to top brands.
I have not had any experience with the clubs but I have used there soft 500 matte golf balls and have liked them. Think at the time I purchased them they were under $15 us a dozen. Seem to make quality stuff for sure.
Great video Simon, could you do a video on the inesis hybrid? Fairway woods? They have an online fitting system for example size 2, slow swing speed. Would love to see a high handicapper buy one and see if decathlons basic fitting system actually helps a high handicapper, mid handicapper etc.
Such a bargain for that driver just not sure I would spend that much on a brand like that when I could get a second hand taylormade or ping or some other top brand! good video Simon I actually saw you filming this today at sandford was going to come say hi, the course was looking lovely today and the greens were mint!
All shafts are equal in terms of manufacturing cost, material, process and man power. The selling price marketing is what separates the product. I would even guess that 'small batch' shafts are just selected from the large batch through QA and you are effectively paying a premium for a shaft as close to its design characteristics.
I bought it brand new with the Tensei blue shaft for 279, still think even at that price it was cracking value but 160 is ridiculous!! What shaft? What loft?
Living the dream here with a 90s Big Bertha 10 degree driver with a new Lamkin grip that I picked up for £30. Easier to hit than todays giant drivers, just put your standard 3 wood swing on it and it goes miles.
You should visit the decathlon in Surrey Quays. It has a pro there who can help and simulator. When I bought my insesis set he helped me with what I needed.
Oct 2020 I bought inesis 500 irons, still use love them. Tried other improvement irons nope I500 fairway pin high clubs. Longest drive I ever did was a inesis 500 ball 310 yards. Tried over and over with pro v never got close.
I recently bought the Inesis 500 driver and hybrid and have gone from a mid-teen handicapper who struggled with woods, down to a 7. Just so easy to hit.
this is why I didnt get 211 irons. I figured if I bought them new for retail then I will never get my money back but by getting used clubs for right price I wont lose money.
Another thing is advertisement. I mean, just think of what Taylormade or Titleist spend in this category. So you're right with the middle man and club fitter but these shiny tour trucks where they shoot their flashy equipment videos are probably not that cheap either!
