Wonderful video, Suzie. I am originally from California where we have such an array of coastal design styles depending upon what part of the State you live. Although raised in the North, I gravitate to the Southern influences of the Spanish Colonial, Revival and Gothic. I would love to see your nod to that aesthetic.

Now I just want a vacation at a beach house
Would love to create a coastal style/mood in our Master Bedroom but our furniture is traditional dark wood. Any thoughts on how to work around this to create a relaxing coastal design without painting the furniture?
Hi there! Consider incorporating light, airy textiles like white or neutral-colored bedding, curtains, and throw pillows in soft blues, greens, or celadon. Perhaps lean into the Coastal style with some of the 5 Ls of styling elements such as woven rattan homewares, glossy ceramic vases or trinket dishes in the coastal palette, fresh greenery, or contemporary artwork. Bringing in natural textures like rattan, jute, or bamboo will complement your traditional dark wood furniture while still creating a serene coastal atmosphere. xx Hopefully this is a good start!

Thsnkbyou so much for your videos, they are so inspitational. I see you have two different videos for coastal and island style. Can you please point out the basic differences between these two styles?
Hello Bernadette! Thank you for your comment. It is hard to summarise in the comments but I’d say a few key differences in that Island style includes more colour, brighter/tropical accents that can include yellows, orange, pink as well as the traditional coastal neutrals/blues/greens. Whereas coastal style is build on a foundation of cool neutrals, grey, and those sea blues / celadon greens. I’d say the island style also can have a more eclectic range of decor, similar to British colonial. Where elements are collected from travels, as well as the surrounding environment. Coastal is a broad style that can be contemporary/minimal or rustic, vintage and distressed depending on the preference. Whereas island style is a beautiful mix of old & new, natural materials & pops of colour in soft furnishings and decor. Hope those few points provide insight xx

Almost every style is some combination of sea, sky, and sand colors, neutrals right now. It is being applied to nearly every style except some colorful bohemian and Nomad, or Granny Traditional.

@@suzieandersonhome I am currently between styles as I try to use what I have and update some and so on. Transitional? I love them all. I adapt my style to whatever the house or apartment-style is. I am one of those eclectic types who cannot ever make up their mind. lol
Love the look of coastal design but I have kids and dogs. White sofas will not work I would like to see thing that is user friendly.
As always, no style is prescriptive, I recommend you tailor to your needs with fabric choices, colours, additional blankets e.t.c xx
