Don't be scared! It will only make it worse :) Everyone is shy to start with, and there are loads of people who don't drink! Add me on twitter if you want to chat about it, but I'm here if you are scared! Don't be!
I'm going university in September and I have been nervous since I accept my offer, but after watching this video it has calmed my nerves a lot so thank you! Plus I have to say you need an award for having your head screwed on properly! Most student want to be a cliche... Plus I agree with all your statements about food and priority.
Thank you for making this video. I'm not going to uni until 2016 but i'm already worried about it. I was particularly worried about not being the "going out and getting sloshed in a nightclub" sort of person but this settled my nerves. :)
+Lucy S I'm the same way. Although I live in America where it is harder to get alcohol under 21. Of course, there is still drinking and drugs. I don't mind drinking until the people around me are throwing up and I don't agree with drugs at all.
+Lucy S I go UNI in 2016 too hopefully, i applied for university of kent although i live in london and i am pretty worried about going away from home xD
Finally someone who says that you don't have to go out and get drunk if thats not what you like. Thats no my type of thing. Thanks for the help. Great vid :)
Loved your video, really really good information. I'm nowhere near having to worry about university as I'm only 15, but I loved how you explained everything and made my worries a lot less. Thank you, I'll be sure to watch more of your videos :) whoops wrong YT channel but yeah thank you :)
This literally made my day! I thought I was quite different from others cuz I am not into drinking, going out at night either, and people often judge me because of it. It is really hard to find people who doesn't like to go out especially you're in uni. Thanks for all the advice!
I'm glad it could! I'm really happy that I can have that kind of effect on people :) You should be able to find people on your course or hopefully in your flat that are quite like you too :)
Applying for uni fairly soon, and I'm not really the person who gets absolutely smashed and all, so you really have given me confidence for when I'm going - so thank you! :)
Great tips! I think you're right about the large opinion base on this topic. I found it hard putting so much information about my university experience in a 10 minute video.
Fantastic, hugely useful video, thank you! And it's nice to see so many other people worried about freshers week. I have tried drinking "properly" ands it's not fun for me personally, don't intend on doing that more so I was trying to figure out what I'll do but I'm definitely not on my own so thanks! Good luck to everyone else
Hi What is your advice about staying at halls or going home to parents at weekends? if you say stay how do you find things to do. I am like you and hate drinking and anything social really.
I have no idea why I didn't subscribe to your main channel sooner- Loved this!! This was very useful, as I am going study Law at Liverpool uni in September :)!
Haha thank you very much :D I wish you all the luck with that! My girlfriend does Law at Leeds so if you have any questions I'm sure I could pass them on for you :)
Thank you so much for the "getting drunk" topic. I'm not a partyperson at all (heck, what my friends and I consider a jolly good time is playing D&D and Let's Dance). What you said made me calm down a bit because I'm going to uni this autumn, and I'm really worried about only meeting "party people" and drinking preassure and blah blah blah.. You made me feel more secure about my values and I'm not scared of not getting any friends just because of freakin alcohol.
Thank you! Honestly comments like this mean so much to me! You should be fine! It is a bit of a lottery, because the people in your flat could all be party people! But there are plenty more people at Uni who are into what you are into!
The only reason I am able to go to university is because it is free in Scotland and I'm staying at home because I live close to the campus. I took out a loan of £1,000 for a new laptop, books etc so hopefully I wont get into too much debt :)
For those who like to drink and party, i spend £15 a week on food (aldi you cant go wrong). Just make sure you have bread with every meal to fill up! Good video, wish i found this before i went to uni, goodluck to all you freshers, you will have a great time and meet some exceptional people!
Hey, Jamie! Thanks a lot for your advice. I'm just like you!! Seeing other videos about Uni life I thought I was an anti-social girl, but you're right! You've gotta find friends as you are. Already subscribed to your channel! :-)
No point making friends with people who you don't have anything in common with :) Thank you! I'm glad you liked the video and you can relate to the things I talked about :D
i agree with everything you said except that it's not worth going to uni to do music. for performance, maybe i'd agree, but there's a lot more to music than just that.
I would agree! I was trying to find a subject that could apply - maybe to be an artist? Or Video maker? I loved music at GCSE and I love composition (it is probably my dream job secretly) and I totally agree that the things you could learn at University for that kind of job in music would help massively! Sorry I didn't explain that bettter! I did basically mean performance! :)
Do you think me resitting my A levels to get into a better Uni is worth it? iv already resat once so id have to pay. I want to do petroleum engineering.
Definitely :) It's worth doing if you think you can do better the second time round! You should always try to do the best you can! You'll regret it if you don't get where you want to go just because you didn't retake!
Thank you! Nachos is the meal to end all meals! But did your degree get you the job? It's a hard thing to balance really - it is very expensive if you aren't going to use it
I would recommend - depending on what price point you are looking at... Either: HP Envy 6-1202ea Ultrabook (A beefy version of mine) for £700 This is a perfectly good laptop, anything more is overkill! Dell XPS 15 (£1089 - 1709) (This one is incredible especially the £1709 one, it has desktop power in a laptop! I'd have this if money was no object) HP Envy TouchSmart 17-j005ea (Another beast) for £1199. And these two would kick the living poo out of the £2300 Macbook Pro!
The amount you work terrifies me. I feel guilty just watching this. Crazy you go to Bath! I live in Bath - it's great. I'm gonna need way more sleep than you when I go to uni this year!
This is the 4th time i watched this video. Can you make avideo of how to study properly and time management. How many hours to study each day. I will be starting my actuarial science degree. I gues it needs alot of studying hours
I am very easy going and im funny and I dont/wont drink much because health reasons and wastes money. Im the sort of person who is a bit crazy so I dont need alochol. Ill drink like one a month a few pints of cider but that is it. Im Irish so I dont know many English people but the once I do know, we got on great (though cruise holidays) which makes me think it will be easy enough. Well thanks for confirming I will make some friends, Im not asking much just a group of 10-12
Hello Jamie, I really liked your video. I am a Brazilian student who lives in Spain who's going to spend my Erasmus year in Wolverhampton. My question is about the variety of nationalities and people backgrounds, I mean, how do the English people react or treat people from other countries, cultures or accents? Are they friendly in this sense? Thank you very much!
Any chance you could do a video on what degree to choose? I'm having trouble between Comp sci, Physical Geography, and International Politics and Human Geography. Thanks, loved the video by the way :)
Gary Neville Just make sure that you are prepared and that you have everything that is important! Make sure you can make everywhere as homely as possible!
I'm starting uni next september and not the first year but the rest I will have to ask for a loan, work etc (but the first year my parents want to pay, which is great) the thing is I was not planning on working as it may be too much, at least at first, as I am moving from a different country on my own. So... Do you know if it is necessary to look for a job just from the beginning or could I wait a few months? Maybe it depends on the uni or city? Thanks, and btw great advice 👌👌
I've heard you have to bring costumes for freshers week, what sort of student nights did you have and what costumes did you need to buy? Really useful video btw!
I didn't take costumes, I can't be doing with dressing up - I'm a party pooper ;) If you can find out what the themes are for your freshers week then that can help? We had like UV night, toga nights, PJ night etc :)
I'm unsure as to what laptop I should get for university. I'm debating whether or not to get the apple mac pro because even though it costs a hell of a lot, I've been told they are a great investment. What would you recommend?
Personally I think they are overpriced for one but the OS is horrible and they are only as much of an investment as an equally priced windows laptop... I really don't understand the hype. Before you get one though, make sure that the applications you need are available for it, loads of people are always asking on our forums (for computer sciences so we have odd software to be fair) for mac alternatives for windows software.
Hi couldn't help noticing you said your girlfriend was in Leeds, I'm going to uni in bath this year and my boyfriend will be in Manchester, how did you find cost/travel and how often do you see each other?
Informative video! I was just wondering if you have currently put up any videos about your results for and of the years since your first year? I saw the first year one recently and couldn't find others.
Hey Jamie, I've searched quite a few terms like 'exams' 'results' 'second/third year' etc and couldn't find the videos, I've also tried to look through the July-ish videos of 2014 and 2015 but no luck there either. Do you know the names of the videos or the exact dates?
ok so I have been to university before I did a whole year completed and got a B but I knew I was on the wrong corse before I went becuase everyone said i was good at it Im thinking of going back in september but doing what I want to do physical education will the corse be 50/50 work and practical/ also I dropped out the first year cause I was depressed because I hated the corse but this time im going to get counciling at uni if I go again but Im afraid I might dropp out again help ?
That was really helpful, thank you! Do you have any tips for finding a job? (I'm starting my first uni year in September and I'm thinking of working as well)
I don't really have any tips, I had my job before I got to University and I was just lucky getting the application! What I would say is that you just have to be optimistic and look around either online, or by taking CVs to shops (but most of the big places will just tell you to check online, but it can't help asking)
How would you go about joining a sports club as a relative "newbie? I played tennis when I was younger (around 7 yrs old) and then again when I was 12. So I have a total of around 2-3 years of experience. I've really been wanting to join some kind of sport again in uni, but I'm not sure if I'm experienced enough to join a tennis club. Do you think I should commit to it?
In the first couple of weeks you will be hounded by the sports clubs for you to join, most have different levels of experience so you will find one that suits you :) First year is the year to do it if you really want to!
Woah, your degree is heaps expensive! Mine's going to cost me about 30-40k (AUD), so like 15-20k GBP. Your uni is probably better than mine though, haha. Plus I'm living at home, so I don't have to pay for that, or much else really.
jamie hope you answer this question. im going to uni of hertfordshire as my first year and just wanted to know if there are students that travel from home. im going to travel from london to the uni and if i really need to get a place to stay near the uni, i can do. i just wanted to know what is the nightlife like in uni, would i get sleep etc... im that kind of person who is shy, dont like talking much and probably will study alot.
Hey Hey, some people definitely do commute but they usually commute within the same city, or at most the city next door (I.e. Bath/Bristol) but those people are few and far between! I would recommend that you do move if you can, not only is it a pain commuting a long way for 1 hours worth of lectures, but also I know a few people that regretted living at home instead of in halls. They felt it much harder to make friends! (Basically because the only friends you are guaranteed to make are your flatmates :)
Basically the laptop is only a laptop. The only thing different about the mac pro is that it looks "pretty", runs a silly operating system that isn't as well supported as Windows, and you get to be all snobby about your mac pro... For half the price you can get an equally good investment windows laptop! Invest a nice ultrabook or something, something really swanky!
Great video, this really helped me but haha £50 a week is way too much doe. am planning 20 to 30 a week because I eat only 1900 calories everyday so I should be fine.
It would be really good if you were to get there! I am more then willing to be around and to answer questions if you have any! The best of luck to you :D
Hi I'm new to your videos and channels and I think they are really good. Have you finished university now or are you still there? And if you have finished have you got a job?
I'm still at university, but I am currently doing a year in industry! In between years 2 and 3 I join a company and work for them for a year! If you are interested in finding out more about this then my daily vlog channel is here: t.co/hqDjRPxv
Thanks for the reply. I've seen a few of your vlogs and I saw the one about your placement but I was a bit confused because I haven't watched a lot of your vlogs yet. I'm going to watch some more of your vlogs but I won't be able to watch them all as there are so many haha. Keep them up I think there great!
Heya, This may be long but i'd appreciate the help! I'll be starting uni in about 3 weeks and was wondering that: 1. Before you went to uni, did you feel the need to just BE there but at the same time have the thought "will i actually fit in and make friends?". 2. I've moved a lot and am used to going to school mid way through the year and this is the first time we're all going to be new and not just me... Will it still be like "omg new kid!" or just everyone walking around lost for the first god knows how many weeks? 3. I'm not a big drinker (well, im not a drinker at all lol), and freshers week is full of clubbing nights and stuff which everyone says i should go to but i dont see the point in making friends at clubs as chances are they wont remember you the next day... Any advice for a full on non-drinker that wants to still go to clubs? 4. AND one last question, how fast do "little groups of friends" form from your experience? Cheers! PS: Loving the videos! Keep it up :D
Hello! I can certainly attempt to answer these :) 1. Not entirely sure what you mean by this, but you are kind of forced to make friends. I don't think you really have the choice, in the same way that you would make friends if you got a new job or what have you. You will be naturally forced to talk to people :) 2. There will be no "omg new kid" the uni is too big for second or third years to even recognise/fail to recognise you - and yeah everyone is new! 3. I have no real advice here because I do drink a little bit, and I didn't go to clubs at University very often. The environment there is very very different to any other club I've been too. Especially at Freshers. Everyone is a bit more mental and that really bugs me ;) There is no point going to the club if you are only going to make friends, you will find it easier to make friends with people in your flat if you hang around at pre-drinks (I used to play the games but not drink), and friends on your course will naturally form away from clubs and stuff. You don't need to go clubbing to make friends, and I wouldn't because they aren't a very nice environment full stop really, but obviously the more time you are around people the more chance you have... so it's your call! Go once, see what you think, then decide :) 4. Instantly. Everyone very quickly grabs onto the nearest people they find. This won't last, or the groups will change as they the year goes on, but everyone instantly gets into some form of a group on day one :) You will be with your flat outside of lectures and then you should naturally fall into a group if you make the effort to sit with people in lectures etc I hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions!
Brilliant! Thats helped a lot :) And how about the most valuable item you bought to uni? Like the must have thing for all students in uni accommodation? :)
Amina Dounia I think I mentioned a top 5 in this video? Extension cables for me, there might not be a lot of plugs! And anything that makes it feel more homely :)
Another person who doesn't drink in uni! hello i feel like i'm the only one. its loud, claustrophobic and expensive, not a fan at all haha. I also didn't join any societies, kind of regret it a little my first year has basically just been my studies. all a learning experience i guess haha
I don't drink and I'm really shy. Absolutely terrified for uni in September.
I'm in the exact same position, I'm also going to Uni in 2016 but already freaking out so this video kinda calmed my nerves!
+Lucy S I'm the same way. Although I live in America where it is harder to get alcohol under 21. Of course, there is still drinking and drugs. I don't mind drinking until the people around me are throwing up and I don't agree with drugs at all.

This is really helpful! I also like the way you present your youtube videos, with humour and a pace which is constant and not dull :) thank you!
You are a brilliant human being, thanks for making this extremely helpful video :)
+Dani the Alien Why thanks :D
Finally someone who says that you don't have to go out and get drunk if thats not what you like. Thats no my type of thing. Thanks for the help.
Great vid :)
You are welcome! Don't feel pressured to do something that you don't want to do :) Thanks!
Great video mate, you truly are a wise soul. Looking forward to starting Uni in a few weeks time.
Loved your video, really really good information. I'm nowhere near having to worry about university as I'm only 15, but I loved how you explained everything and made my worries a lot less. Thank you, I'll be sure to watch more of your videos :) whoops wrong YT channel but yeah thank you :)
OhureGaming Thanks, I'm glad you liked this video :) I'm glad I can help, but you shouldn't have to worry about anything just yet!
This is the first video I found of yours and it is my favourite. Made me more confident about going to uni in two weeks :D xx
Good! I'm glad it helped you!
Most sensible advice I've heard so far about uni life etc. Thank you!! xx
This video helped me so much! Moving into uni this Saturday!
I'm so happy I can help! Good luck!
How is it?
This literally made my day! I thought I was quite different from others cuz I am not into drinking, going out at night either, and people often judge me because of it. It is really hard to find people who doesn't like to go out especially you're in uni. Thanks for all the advice!

Matthew Watt Good stuff my friend! I'm glad I can help just a little bit!
Very refreshing video, keep it up man. Starting uni at Kingston this September to do marketing. Totally stoked!!!
Great tips! I think you're right about the large opinion base on this topic. I found it hard putting so much information about my university experience in a 10 minute video.
Thank you! It is really hard to do!
Fantastic, hugely useful video, thank you! And it's nice to see so many other people worried about freshers week. I have tried drinking "properly" ands it's not fun for me personally, don't intend on doing that more so I was trying to figure out what I'll do but I'm definitely not on my own so thanks! Good on you my friend :D Good luck!
Hi What is your advice about staying at halls or going home to parents at weekends? if you say stay how do you find things to do. I am like you and hate drinking and anything social really.
How's your caffeine lntake?
This is actually so helpful and thank you so much you are great
I'm glad it was! Thank you!
I have no idea why I didn't subscribe to your main channel sooner- Loved this!! This was very useful, as I am going study Law at Liverpool uni in September :)!
Haha thank you very much :D
I wish you all the luck with that! My girlfriend does Law at Leeds so if you have any questions I'm sure I could pass them on for you :)
Why thank you, Jamie! Ohhh does she? I'll get back to you on that one :D!
Really great video! Nice to see a different perspective as I always seem to watch the same type of people doing these lol, thankyou!
It's a good point, I never really considered something like that it could put you behind others who hadn't gone to University - Something to consider!
Thank you so much for the "getting drunk" topic. I'm not a partyperson at all (heck, what my friends and I consider a jolly good time is playing D&D and Let's Dance). This was quite entertaining for a FAQ, well done!
New sub, what uni do you go to?
Brilliant video! Starting university this September and I feel this has really helped :)
Thank you! I wish you all the best! :D
Thanks to talk about the "problem" of not being into going out and drink.. Too much.
For those who like to drink and party, i spend £15 a week on food (aldi you cant go wrong). Just make sure you have bread with every meal to fill up! Good video, wish i found this before i went to uni, goodluck to all you freshers, you will have a great time and meet some exceptional people!
Thanks for the tip :)
Wow, I thought I was the only one that wasn't big on drinking!
No way near!
I am at fresher's week now, there are people who also don't like getting drunk or going out everyday.
Haha this is so great, I really like your sense of humour :D Nice video.
I mean im not even in uni but this is SOOOOOOOO entertaining
Good! I'm glad you liked it!
Love your uni videos!! What software do you use to edit your videos??
i agree with everything you said except that it's not worth going to uni to do music. for performance, maybe i'd agree, but there's a lot more to music than just that.

I'm starting Bath in September and i'm super excited but so nervous! How did you overcome first day nerves? Thanks for this vid!
Thank you!
Nachos is the meal to end all meals!
But did your degree get you the job? It's a hard thing to balance really - it is very expensive if you aren't going to use it
Audacity in the background. Thats awesome
I would recommend - depending on what price point you are looking at...
Either:
HP Envy 6-1202ea Ultrabook (A beefy version of mine) for £700

Danni Barron Sorry about that, don't feel too guilty!
This was super useful as I'm off to uni in September :) THANKS xx
I'm glad it was helpful! Good luck at Uni!
I'm glad it kinda did!
This video really helped me a lot
Thank you Jamie
No problem Pedro (People used to call me that, hence the Ped part of my name ;) )
As someone studying photography, I still need a degree as magazines and such won't employ a photographer without a degree
I guess that is somewhat similar to programming, it helps you get a foot in the door but really it isn't 100% needed
This is the 4th time i watched this video. Can you make avideo of how to study properly and time management. How many hours to study each day. I will be starting my actuarial science degree. I gues it needs alot of studying hours

thank you soo much for the advice! I'll probably be spending my money on food since I dislike going out and all that kinda stuff :)
Thats the best way of doing it! And you are soo welcome! :D
Thanks a lot, I figured since you study computer science you would obviously know a lot about computers! Do you have any recommendations?
Why does he say "student" in the American way? It's weird.
Extension Cables! Never thought of that, but yes that is a necessity. Amazon, here I come.
Never underestimate extension cables ;)
No Problem!
Any chance you could do a video on what degree to choose? I'm having trouble between Comp sci, Physical Geography, and International Politics and Human Geography. Thanks, loved the video by the way :)
best uni video, you're so inspiring. God bless you. thanks, i think i can do this now. hope i get flat mates like yours.
Thank you I'm glad you liked it! I'll cross my fingers for you :)
Any tips for moving in day? It's coming up and I'm bricking it!
Gary Neville Just make sure that you are prepared and that you have everything that is important! Make sure you can make everywhere as homely as possible!
Thanks for an amazing video!
+Nadim Ahmed no problem!

Informative video! I was just wondering if you have currently put up any videos about your results for and of the years since your first year? I saw the first year one recently and couldn't find others.
Annie G If you dive around my daily vlogging channel (in the description) you should be able to find them :)
Hey Jamie, I've searched quite a few terms like 'exams' 'results' 'second/third year' etc and couldn't find the videos, I've also tried to look through the July-ish videos of 2014 and 2015 but no luck there either. Do you know the names of the videos or the exact dates?
+Annie G I think yo be fair, the second year results got crushed by other big news on the day.. let me see... "Test Run to Work Results"
thank you so much for this video!! im moving into my uni on the 30th😨
+Helen Wang no problem! Good luck!
Are you on campus again this year or are you getting a house?

Oh this video is very helpful!
Thank you! :D
Jamie Ped
aah thanks! I'd better get my CV ready then.
90% of unis here cost £9k a year
jamie hope you answer this question.
im going to uni of hertfordshire as my first year and just wanted to know if there are students that travel from home. im going to travel from london to the uni and if i really need to get a place to stay near the uni, i can do. i just wanted to know what is the nightlife like in uni, would i get sleep etc... im that kind of person who is shy, dont like talking much and probably will study alot.
How about the selling point- MacBooks don't get a lot of viruses
when you talk about food, you light up. hehehe
that is so cute
Told you I liked my food ;)
top video, really helpful. keep it up bro :)
Thank you very much man! I'm glad you found it helpful!
How would you go about choosing a course?? xxx
are you allowed to bring a fan into the student hall?
Fans like to cool down? You can bring anything you want, as long as you are willing to live with it in your room!
Great video, this really helped me but haha £50 a week is way too much doe. am planning 20 to 30 a week because I eat only 1900 calories everyday so I should be fine.
I do spend a lot more on food then most do!
I see you have a mighty desktop PC behind you. Do you have a laptop as well or do you manage with just your desktop?
+Barra Liddy I do have a laptop, which I used when I worked around campus and when I went away for the weekend!
Thanks :)
I have found my double haha, might be going bath next year to do computer science, do you like it, good video
Heya,
This may be long but i'd appreciate the help!
I'll be starting uni in about 3 weeks and was wondering that:
Hello! I can certainly attempt to answer these :)
1. Not entirely sure what you mean by this, but you are kind of forced to make friends. I don't think you really have the choice, in the same way that you would make friends if you got a new job or what have you. You will be naturally forced to talk to people :)
Go once, see what you think, then decide :)
4. Instantly. Everyone very quickly grabs onto the nearest people they find. This won't last, or the groups will change as they the year goes on, but everyone instantly gets into some form of a group on day one :) You will be with your flat outside of lectures and then you should naturally fall into a group if you make the effort to sit with people in lectures etc
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions!
Great thanks :)
Another person who doesn't drink in uni! hello i feel like i'm the only one. its loud, claustrophobic and expensive, not a fan at all haha. I also didn't join any societies, kind of regret it a little my first year has basically just been my studies. all a learning experience i guess haha
MReynolds1995 It takes time to figure out exactly how you want to spend your time :)
Thank you so much ^-^
How many hours did you work in the first year?
Thanks a lot, that's really helpful! :)
We are students who just watched serbian film and now we dont think life will ever be the same again PLEASE HELP US!!!!
