Yeah mate, exactly the same as me! Saying that there aren't any good remarkable singers these days, it's just not fair to a LOT of great frontmen/women! We all love the heroes in the past but come on!!! And I am sure I am not much younger than Glenn to be honest! :D
haha, well if he is failed or not I don't know :) But just because he has a gigantic megaphone doesn't mean that what he says through it makes it true or right!
@@maddogtungate6740 yeah for sure. he would not be a grown man screaming at a camera everyday if he had clients. there's kids half his age who shred better, make more mature videos, don't act as elitist gate keepers.... but oh wait, they play modern metal riff salad so that does not count
If Glenn was a failed engineer, he wouldn't have a giant studio roof over his head and a bunch of expensive high quality gear and equipment. Your source about him being a fraud basically boils down to "Trust me bro". Why try to slag down somebody who is reputable and has good advice to give? But you focus only on the negatives. He's been around for decades and has something to show for it, but what do you have? His brand is sarcasm, and if that hurts your feelings then you are not obligated to watch. I'm sure he could care less. Ultimately the issue with musicians such as yourself is an issue that plagues a larger portion of the population, this phenomenon is called "AMFE" Disorder, or put in layman's terms, A Massive Fucking Ego.
I see value in both opinions. Even though I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that people today can't sing, the truth is that there are lots of phoneys who wouldn't be able to hold a note without a ton of effects and autotune. And more importantly - even great singers get robotized by completely unnecessary pitch correction.
I don’t think Glenn’s video really obfuscates good singers today. For me personally, a good singer is one of two things, the actual singer, and a performer. There are amazing modern vocalists out there who have their own unique sound… but there’s also plenty who don’t sound unique who are still successful, but there’s far more to it than, “they are an amazing singer.” Someone can be the greatest singer ever, but if they don’t put in effort to put on a show then I don’t care personally. I think people have to realize who Glenn is making these types of videos for. He’s making these for the kids who are just starting out. Many people just fall into the trap of, “if I just copy what my favorite singer does I’ll be fine.” And that’s mainly due to just inexperience, they haven’t had the time to truly or experience in trying to study their favorite singer. Yeah he’s sweeping with broad strokes but i also don’t think it’s just a modern problem. There’s always been amazing singers who inevitably are surrounded by people either ripping them off or are bad and unoriginal, but I don’t think it overshadows those with the talent.
Any argument about who is The Best or who sucks, yadda yadda, is about pointless. I'm not a huge fan of classical music, but some people are. I HATE opera, but many people love it. I think modern country is terrible. But these are simply my opinions, and just as you have the right to your opinion, Glenn has a right to his and he's not afraid to express it. The thing about Glenn is, he's figure out a way to gain followers with his personality. If he wasn't loud and judgmental and hilarious to watch, I don't think he'd have a half a million followers, and just like you, he's learned that to get views, you need some way to grab people's attention. The fact that a lot of music channels drop Glenn's name to get people to pay attention to their content is pretty telling. I did one video where I was very critical of PRS's new tuner design and that video out performed every video I created in the past two years. Also, every generation thinks their music is the best and every generation's music that comes after is inferior.
I agree. He had some fantastic content about mixing and recording, his opinions are dogshit though, he reminds me of every other myopic gen X nerd who gets upset over other peoples choices.
Well we all need a lil clickbait sometimes eh ;-) Glenn makes a point to stimulate debate. But are you widening the argument to frontperson vs singer? Robbie WIlliams isn't a a great singer, but that doesn't matter for a great show, he can sing well *enough*. I'm old enough to remember those singers you say Glenn's called out from old, but right now I'm damn sure I'd rather listen to Ollie BMTH than any of those. And thanks v much for finally tuning me into Architects, they sound most excellent! Maybe I'm an exception not saying "it was all so much better when I was xx years old", nah fk that, credit where it's due right now whether I like it or not
I kinda see both sides of this debate. There are some great modern singers but they’re overshadowed by mediocre carbon copies. I don’t think that this is just an issue in metal, but also just about every other genre. I feel that most of the blame goes to the industry, the industry just wants to play it safe and only produce music that sells.
"I kinda see both sides of this debate. There are some great modern singers but they’re overshadowed by mediocre carbon copies." -> Agree 100% !! There is too much music available, but like I said in the vide, that shouldn't obfuscate the good singers we have today! And completely agree with you, it's no just a "metal" issue! It's a music issue!
It's like Glenn stopped listening to metal in 1993. Also, the speaker cab is really important, but it's not like 99% of the tone like dipshit suggests.
There are ~60K tracks launched daily on Spotify, so ~22M tracks per year, unless you heard them all at 1000000X the speed... nobody cares what you think!
@@musicinsession Is he still allowed to have his opinion? Also he's right. In the '80's you would have to pay a studio a lot of money to create a recording. Today, if you have a baseball cap & a laptop, you're "a producer", and can and will make tons of garbage "music" that you upload to spotify (there's your 22m). Thus, music IS a LOT shittier than it used to be. Especially if you don't like robot singers & sidechain compressed bass-keyboard [edit] in the key of X.
Honestly I’m surprised Glenn still even has a channel, rampant misinformation, brand bias and he shits on everyone in his audience. Baffles me
This is a pretty good response to Glenn's take. I enjoy his content, but I think he went a little overboard. It felt a little too "Back in my day..."
Yeah mate, exactly the same as me! Saying that there aren't any good remarkable singers these days, it's just not fair to a LOT of great frontmen/women! We all love the heroes in the past but come on!!! And I am sure I am not much younger than Glenn to be honest! :D
Glenn is a failed engineer turned UA-camr. You are not the only one to expose him. I have personally talked with people who know him. He's a fraud.
haha, well if he is failed or not I don't know :) But just because he has a gigantic megaphone doesn't mean that what he says through it makes it true or right!
@@musicinsession he has been in the business a long time. If he was as good as he thinks he is he would have clients. He has none.

I used to enjoy is content but he’s acting more like a troll these days.

Well said, also Ichika Nito doesn’t just do shitposts with 20-strings and I super encourage everyone to check out all their other stuff!

you mean if you DON'T?
I agree.

Fricker never heard of Skid Row's Erik Grönwall 😎
Smaller channel calling out bigger channels purely to gain clicks is definitely a thing.
...and also, smaller channels telling you to shove your opinion up your ass and not caring about what happens next is also a thing!
Honestly it sounded like Glenn was trying to get something from the female vocalists lmao
hahahah

Awesome video man! Great job contextualizing the modern industry from a tech perspective before jumping into the list of good modern singers.
Thanks mate!!! Really appreciate the support! :)
