I've had a number of Filofax Holborns in the past, and they are definitely my favourite. Beautifully made and loads of space for stuff :) Thanks for the comparison.
I used a Filofax for years (Calypso in teal) and since I a use mine as a true travel journal and planner, I really need the flexibility that rings just cannot provide. There is a system for everyone and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing comparisons and hearing what each person uses them for and how they personalize them! Thanks for another great video!!
Last year I bought a personal sized Holborn. It came with gappy rings. Filofax replaced it immediately and let me keep both. I saw videos about de ringing a Filofax and I thought I’d give it a try. I used a screwdriver and wiggled/pressed until it popped out and now it fits my b6 notebooks and it Is flexible. You can sometimes find them already de ringed on FB or Mercari. Just in case you want the organization of a Filofax but without the rigid rings. I think the Holborn would make an awesome wallet❤
I feel like Filofax is experiencing an implosion within the planning community, especially over the past 6 months to a year. It's so neat to see how everyone personalizes their planners with this system. Also, I love that you found a way to use "flatability" - that gave me a good chuckle.
I am playing with a new Voyager Travellers Standard Notebook, from Amazon . $18.oo cad. The Filo fax is a good option , but not for me, due to the failure of the ring system. It always happens to my binder type Organizers.... The New Travellers standard Notebook will take some time, getting use to... I am not familar with the long size of a book like this, however I do like having more writing real-estate , for note taking. I haven't given up on my Pocket Passport and Field journal notebook inserts...due to its better size for my jacket pocket, cargo pants etc....
Nice video. I think it is a matter of what you’re used to. I’ve had a loose leaf ring system since 1982. Pocket size with much smaller rings. 11mm or around 3/8 inch I guess. That was your standard planner or “agenda” back then. Later it was a bit too small and fiddly to me so I got standard size and that’s what I still use. Second hand Filofax small ringed (as they are hard to find) for daily use. Larger ones for writing stories. I also have a fake TN passport size fully loaded with options laying on a shelf. I can’t get used to not be able to change pages. They don’t fit in my pocket either and writing in them is way too small. But sometimes I give it a try again when I can get good paper. You inspired me again.
This is really interesting. The thing about the Filofax, is that I'd fill up all those handy pockets and compartments and I wouldn't be able to close it. There is a tactile satisfaction with the Travelers Passport. I find myself just flipping through it and touching it. It's kind of like a fidget toy. Do you have that sensation with the Filofax? I am intrigued, but I've bought so many inserts for my Passport that I'll have to stck with it for now. Plus, I've got the Travelers Tokyo Limited Edition notebook coming to me. Yeah, it was an impulse buy...
Hello from England! 🏴 I’ve followed your videos from since you started your Bullet Journal in the moleskine. I noticed you also play around with CB radio. I’d love to see a video on that. (What gadgets your use etc) Keep the good content coming!
I still have a Franklin Covey personal size ring binder from 30 years ago. Haven’t used it since I use the passport to ( true Midori brand stamped in the back) I’ve had for years. I often think of using FC again and maybe one day, like you. I always thought Franklin was softer leather than Filofax and rings are definitely more compact. If I switch the Midori I would definitely use Franklin vs Filofax. You should check them out.
Closest to minimal approach to TN is definitelly Lockwood Compact or Heritage line from Filofax, all others come with bigger rings. However Plotter line is also to consider and I think is superb - great leather options as well as inserts are top notch and fountain pen friendly. Quality of Filofax is on decline, leather gets thinner each year, they also are cancelling those minimal gentleman’s models like Lockwood Pocket which is no longer in production yet closest to the TN Pocket. Just be aware, this is deep rabbit hole . . .too much of everything is never enough, keep it stoic - enjoy more what you already have ;-)
Thanks for watching Joseph. The more I look at it, it probably was more difficult to put the small one together than it would be to work with a large one. Lots of hand labor went into it.
I love straps.. but Im not a rings fan. I agree that our TNs look so primitive next to a Filofax type notebook. I know Chic Sparrow has a TN with a strap closure. I may try those since I love my bound notebooks.
I love the leather, but not the rings…something like that, but with elastics for TN passport style inserts would be great. But without the closure as that would get hung up when putting it in my pocket.
Travelers: a piece of leather and a few holes over priced way to high. Filofax: a product leather craftsmen actually made and sewed. I am returning to Filofax.
I’m going to explore the mini at some point. I might try a personal or maybe even a full size. I’d like to set up a common place book and I think a Filofax style notebook would make a great option for that. Thanks
I appreciate the travlers notebook you carry. The Filofax is more for sophisticated people than me. Have a wonderful evening
My wife a lot more sophisticated than me 😆. But I might have to try it out sometime. Thanks Jason!
@SigogglinJack I appreciate you brother. I'm glad I made you laugh

I’m not not crazy about the rings either. Just don’t care for the bulk. My wife seems to like them though. Thanks for watching!
Nothing beats the feel of a TN for me but the rings are quite flexible for organizing.
Thanks for watching. I’m still loving my TN. It’s gonna be hard for me to switch.

I’m the same way. I’m curious what it looks like after it’s been lived in for a while. Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome planner, I’ve never seen those! Great video, thanks for sharing
Thanks Randy!
That is pretty high quality looking. Nice.
Thanks buddy!

Thanks for following along. That’s a Great idea for a video!
I’m acquainted with filo fax quality, but I’d go for the smaller and more agile passport size.
Thanks for this video!!!
Thanks for watching brother!
Ty for the rare look at unconscious consumerism. Good on ya
Thanks. Most of what I do is unconscious. It’s kinda my thing 😆
@@SigogglinJack right the human condition thing☺️

I’ve been eyeing the plotter. I’m going to have to try one out. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Great video. I like Filofax and their system, but as you already alluded, you can't put it in your pocket (back or front) and carry around.
I think I’m going to eventually have to grab a mini. Which maybe should have been called the pocket! Thanks !
It's all about labor and per unit profit, the materials are usually the cheapest expense for a manufacturer so size doesn't really matter.
Thanks for watching Joseph. The more I look at it, it probably was more difficult to put the small one together than it would be to work with a large one. Lots of hand labor went into it.

That would make a great journal! Thanks for watching
I am loving your set up. WHat is your smallest one, and how small are you willing to go?
I think this passport size is the smallest I’d care to go with. Thanks for watching Randy!
This one is good, but I think the previous one is much more beautiful😊
I think I’ll stick to my old one a bit longer. Thanks for watching!
Great job
Thanks very much!
I find the binder rings get in the way when I writing. Especially if your right handed writing on the left page. Not comfortable for me.😊
I hadn’t thought of that but I can see how it would. Thanks for watching Rick.
You can Take the pages out.
@@Oldnose63 No kidding.🤣🤣
@@Rick-fz7tt so take the page out and write onto the right side 🤷🏼
@@Oldnose63 why bother if you don’t have rings. Especially when time is at the essence.🤔
It’s pronounced “ho-bun”, not “holl-bourne”. It’s named after an ancient district in central London.

Traveler's is cheaper in the Philippines so it depends where you are from.
