@4:44 and 5:27 one threaded rod is missing (left if you face the car). Interestingly enough that the same rod is missing on my car, same side. I saw another film somewhere there were 2 rods (to tie down the battery). Seems like a small thing, but hard to secure the battery without that rod. Thank you for the informative film again.
I don't, but when i worked at a Valvoline quick oil change they had a bin with all the diff kinds of drain plugs and gaskets. I bet if you stop by and ask they will give one or a few to you for free.
Rich, I have a 2000 Saturn SL2, and as simple minded as this may seem, I was curious if you could show how to replace both the positive and negative battery cables for my car? I get the idea of the cables snaking their way down to both the starter and alternator, but it sure would be nice to see exactly how to best approach the replacement of these cables. I can say you inspire a lot of us "do-it-your-self types" like myself and others enjoy your videos! Keep up the great videos, and thank you very much for your time and dedication!
I have a 96 SL2, did Saturn rearrange the battery position in later years? It looks like the battery terminals are at the opposite side of the battery box in the video. What is that big white square object between the battery box and the brake reservoir?
This video helped me a lot. Thanks, Rich. I grabbed a replacement box/tray from the local pick-n-pull as the one in my 2001 SC-1 appears to have been broken during the last owner's battery change. Given how challenging it was to remove the tray in one piece, I now understand the reason. The hardware holding the tray in place is prone to corrosion and it's very easy to break the plastic during removal. I strongly advise penetrating lube before removal and anti-seize on re-installation.
Hello fellow Saturn owners, I have a 96 SL2 and I just changed my oil and now I have an oil drip at the drain plug. I bought an M12 nylon drain plug washer from O'Reilly auto parts and installed it on the drain plug but still have a small leak. Anyone know the correct oil drain plug washer to use?
Yeah, when I needed to remove my battery tray, I couldn't figure out the underneath/wheel well bolt. Definitely frustrating, but I finally solved the puzzle.
Rich will know. But I would just buy one of these at the dealer and buy an extra one for when that one goes. They are very inexpensive. I buy mine in packs of ten.
hello, i have a 1998 Saturn s series sedan, i have a few requests... could you show mehow to remove the hood, radio i want to put in a different dock, how to change the brake pads. thanks
I have a good spare DieHard from another car to replace the one in my 2001 SC1. I bought top post to side post adapters, but noted that the polarity was also reversed. It doesn't appear that the cables would reach if I try to reverse them. Any thoughts on whether it could or if it's more trouble than its worth?
Hey Rich, what's the name of that metal connector/arm/wishbone thing that sits half under the air box and half under the battery tray? At 4:50 you're pointing at the battery tray but in the image your index finger would be pointing at the bushing of this piece if it were down a half inch. Mine is considerably loose (bad bushing, I think) and I want to replace it...but I don't know what it's called! Thanks in advance for you help!
Awesome. Thanks. Do you know of any online resources for blow-up diagrams (with each part labeled) of the entire engine compartment? I've got the Haynes for this vehicle but that doesn't have anything like this.
I have to replace my battery box, and this video came just at the right time before i head to the wreckers sometime in the next couple weeks. Thanks
I help as best as i can.
What a pain in the ass just to remove a battery tray. The 2nd gen is much easier. Great instructional video as always. Keep em coming.
Very nice :-), the bolt through the wheel side would have made me scratch my head a bit.
Very kind of you to spend time helping your viewers :o))

I will put it on my list for the 00-02 battery cable replacement.
I have used Dorman # 65327 which is M12
I will put it on my video to do list.

Thank you as always for your time making these great videos! I am always looking forward to your next one :)

Yup the old brain is a little off.

On the 00-02 they did flip the battery terminals to the front so they could mount the computer (silver box) to the back of the box.
Nicole Vissa, The battery in a 2004 Ion is located in the trunk.
Do you need to remove a battery box if you need to replace battery cables (both, positive and negative)? Thank you for the great film.
The battery box does not need to be removed to change the battery cables.
@@RichpinTv Do you have a film on replacing battery cables (both)?

Hey nice video thanks! I knew another fastener was holding it somewhere, but did not know where that fender well bolt was located. XD

That part is called the Torque Strut Mount.

Oh...and that mount shouldn't have any play it it at all, right? Mine has considerable movement at the bushing closest to the firewall.
Can you do a video on removing and replacing the BTSI and neutral safety switch on a Saturn SL2 1999 automatic?
hay richpin, im having trouble looking for an OEM positive battery cable for my 02 sc1. would you know any websites that still carry Saturn parts?
Hey rich, what's your thoughts on sea foam?
I have not used much of it to have any input on how good it is.
I have a 2004 Saturn and I like to now where the battery is for my car
Sounds like you live in the salt belt.
Not a like of difference between this and Chrysler it will start when you need the least but won't start when your trying to get work or the hospital
You never show how to remove the battery! Sometimes, people have trouble with those cables, you know. It would be helpful to see that step.
Dude really? Awful instructions
