I agree to brush my teeth when waking up in the morning. I also brush my teeth in the morning and after eating food because I, feel amazing afterward. I have learned through self-experience that sugar is the worst thing to rest on your gums that can cause many problems in our bodies especially our sugar levels due to glucose levels in our bloodstream and not bush our teeth can cause tooth decay and damage our gums and especially all of the plagues that build up in our mouths at night time while we are sleeping that builds up on the enamels on our teeth. Enamel is the thin outer covering of the tooth. This tough shell is the hardest tissue in the human body. Enamel covers the crown which is the part of the tooth that's visible outside of the gums. I do not like sugary drinks and surgery foods. But many fruits and vegetables are full of carbohydrates and sugar which go straight to the bloodstream to rise our glucose levels and can cause diabetes from eating so much sugar and not brushing your teeth can cause residue of the sugary foods during the night for 8 hours to rest on your gums and to enter the bloodstream along with the over amount of carbohydrates and add sugar going into our bodies causing blood pressure problems and diabetes. You, are so right we must brush our teeth in the morning before bacteria will grow in the mouth while we are sleeping and viruses also can get into our mouths while we are sleeping especially when some of us sleep with our mouths open.
I’m a dental hygienist and I get asked this all the time. I actually wake up, brush then eat. When I get to work, I brush before I get my first patient. But I don’t expect them to do that. I honestly and wowed by your answer. You definitely have a point. Now I need to change/adjust my response to these patients. 😂
I've NEVER heard anybody in the dental industry say you should brush before and after breakfast. What's interesting is I've always done this since I was a kid... initially to get rid of my bad breath to be around other people in the morning, then after to get my teeth clean from eating. I've never had a cavity in my life either.
I always brushed my teeth before breakfast. During my braces phase, I got used to swishing my mouth with water after each meal, including breakfast, because food got caught in my braces. Since I was on the go, I had no time to brush and sometimes, its hard to brush your teeth at work! Now with the braces off, I still swish my mouth with water after every meal. I use dental picks to get any food bits out of my teeth too, lol.
@@xackar7689 I prefer to brush my teeth as soon as I wake up and I swish the water to make your all toothpaste is out. Maybe 30 minutes will go by (getting dressed, fixing my hair, putting on makeup) then I make myself breakfast. When I eat/drink, I don’t taste the minty toothpaste. That’s how I do it.

I wish I learned everything I now know thanks to you, when I was younger. My oral health has improved so much and I often think about how much pain I could have avoided. If I had only known.
I’ve somehow been so lucky so far (I guess good genetics maybe). I’m 35 and have only had a couple cavities after getting braces removed in high school. But, I’ve been doing it wrong all along! I’ve always brushed after breakfast, and unfortunately I was doing it IMMEDIATELY after eating. Then I’ve always brushed before bed, rinsed, flossed, and rinsed again…so my order of things was way off! Now I brush upon awakening, eat 30-40 mins after that, and for my nighttime routine, I actually floss first, rinse with water, THEN brush, and then I do not rinse, although that last part was a tricky habit to break. I’ve always had great dental checkups, but I feel like your videos will help out my oral cavity that much more! Thank you!! 🎉 I now wear a custom NTI night guard too after getting a new dentist that noticed surface fractures in a lot of my incisors and missing points on my molars from nighttime bruxism…I had no idea I was doing it and somehow my previous dentists never picked up on it (it was Aspen Dental, who I’ve been told by many, including my new dentist, that like other corporations, they are not very reputable)! Very glad I switched and went the private dentist route…also, he is waaaay more affordable! 😂
You can and should neuralize the PH in your mouth before every teeth brush session. You can use xylitol for this or a mouth wash with chlorine dioxide.
Thank you for this information. I've always brushed my teeth after breakfast and coffee which yes, leaves you with fresh minty breath and clean shiny teeth for the rest of the morning, especially helpful if i have to head to university right after, but i've also noticed that brushing my teeth after breakfast makes my mouth becomes so dry, even if i drink a LOT of water, probably due to fluoride in the toothpaste. So i'm going to try brushing before breakfast. I also think using mouthwash once a day before you head to work/school/uni like me will be very effective for most of you and have the same fresh effect you desire, plus without that dryness in your mouth.
I try to make it a point to wait an hour after having my coffee. I get up a half hour early, brush my teeth. Wait that half hour before having my coffee. Have some water BEFORE coffee. And then I try to rinse with water, or mouthwash after I’m done with the coffee. Then rinse again, and either eat breakfast, or wait another hour.
I always brush after I eat breakfast but I can see why it’s better to do it before eating. I thought plaque would likely increase more if I brushed after eating and of course I was right. I’m still brushing after breakfast though sorry 😂
You hear dentists and oral hygienists telling you it’s best to brush first thing when you wake, yet you still opt to keep a funky mouth until no telling how long after you eat. This is, not near as bad, but this is like a dentist telling you that if you continue doing what your doing your teeth are going to fall out… wait, this IS exactly that. You’ve got dental professionals telling you that your putting the health of your teeth at risk if you wait to brush after you eat. Get rid of that yuck mouth. First thing I do in the mornings after I wake up and put on my glasses is to go in the bathroom and brush… like a child being told not to put dog poo in your mouth, but you opt to suck on that moist dog turd anyway. Some people are just like children. Child gets told by parent that you shouldn’t chew on rocks… child chews on rocks anyway. Lmao.
Omg i needed this. Thing is, my breath smells like waffles in the morning, which makes me feel abit skeptical about eating without brushing before 🤣 This video reassured me i am a mouth breather lol
I just never eat breakfast, problem solved I guess 🤷♂️ Jokes aside I find that chewing gum after eating is the best way to go because it’s keeps breath fresh and teeth feeling clean. So if I were to eat breakfast I would brush first, then pop in some gum after. Plus, I just like chewing gum!
I have a really thorough and elaborate oral care routine but brushing before breakfast is the one thing that I have yet to find myself sticking to as I have to brush after a meal as I can't stand not having super fresh breath, but I am gonna try to adhere and acclimate myself to first doing a simple brush with my manual toothbrush shortly after I get up and then after breakfast do a more elaborate oral care routine afterwards. It's gonna take some time getting used to the slightly altered taste of my breakfast. But it's gonna be hard to cram everything in my morning schedule. I also want to start chewing Xylitol Gum.
“Can’t stand to not have super fresh breath” but you wait until after you eat to brush… when I wake, the first thing I do after I put on my eyeglasses, is brush my teeth. I can’t stand how disgusting my mouth tastes right after I wake up. It shouldn’t be hard at all to work it into your elaborate oral care routine, and as for getting used to the taste of food after brushing your teeth… if you drink a bit of plain water, THEN eat your food after you get ready or whatever, allowing for about 30 minutes AFTER you brush your teeth, it should do nothing but make your food taste better. Oral care is so important to me. I didn’t know about the healthy bacteria being brushed off after you brush, but I’ve always brushed before I do absolutely anything for the day. Even if I don’t go anywhere that day, first thing I do is brush, floss, then scrape. If you “practice” brushing your teeth before you eat, immediately after waking, you’ll see nothing but benefits and you’ll feel like an all around cleaner person.
Thank you for making this video! 💐 I got an SLS- free toothpaste for my son to use first thing in the morning so his sense of taste won’t be affected & he can enjoy his breakfast. Maybe a follow-up dental short on best dentifrice options for brushing before breakfast would be good? Thanks again!
I used to rinse with mouth wash, eat breakfast, floss and brush teeth and tongue but my dentist told me to brush, eat breakfast then floss and rinse with mouthwash and brush my tongue. So far that's been my routine and it's worked well. I don't have time after lunch to brush but I rinse with mouthwash. And night time is floss, brush teeth and tongue, then mouthwash.
Anyone else go to a dentist who just plays random trivia on the tv in the waiting room intermixed with two or three facts about dentil conditions you dont need to know about until things go very wrong and a whole lot of info about the graduating students in their local area? Why do dentists do this over teaching basic tooth brushing tips like these??!!! I just learned more in a few hours on this channel than i ever have in a dentist office.
For me in the morning, I'm thinking: - Electric toothbrush (don't spit) - String floss - Tongue scraper - Rinse and drink water to clear throat (Skincare) (Eat breakfast) - Fluoride mouthwash without alcohol and a sense-making ph (don't rinse)
In my Little Country, at least 90% of the people brushes their teeth as they wake up before they eat breakfast, it's common sense for us, I mean whose gonna eat breakfast with Morning Breath, that's just weird, because morning breath mixed with your breakfast doesn't really change the morning breath taste in your mouth all that much.
So with me I wake up brush and use a mouthwash. I wait at least 30 minutes before eating breakfast so I don’t just wash all that fluoride away. After breakfast, I immediately rinse my mouth with water to remove all the food particles. I wait at least another 30 minutes to brush again.
What about brushing your teeth, THEN eating immediately or if you just skip the meal entirely after brushing? I was told one time by my dentist that I shouldn't eat 2 minutes after brushing my teeth or nothing would taste right.
Since brushing is bad right after a meal, how about some vigorous water swishing - Will it also spread the acid, or reduce the amount? And what if I swish with a basic solution (bit of baking soda + salt)? I think I can learn to swish after every meal and snack, plus follow your advice of brushing before bed and first thing in the morning.
yesss swishing with water helps alot!! here's a video of mine that goes over even more things you can do throughout the day -- hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/1yy9fKxAyOY/v-deo.html
When I was little and went to sleepovers with my white American friends they would always brush after eating breakfast and I thought it was strange but I'm not originally American so I brushed it off, but I always would ask them why they wanted to swallow the germs from the night before LMAO. Not exactly how that works but I guess it's also a cultural thing.
@@Zoe-sn9tb but at least bother with the brush. The "compromise" given here is to just wait after eating and not bothering to brush before eating at all. It would be like answering the question, "Should you pee before or after sex". And the answer being both. Pee before, or have less liquid, as a full bladder is uncomfortable, wait and provide foreplay to make sex even more enjoyable, then pee right after sex, don't wait until after cuddling, to avoid UTI and some jerk says to comprise with pee right away and cuddle after without even bothering with the discomfort via different positions or lube instead of prolonged foreplay.
Probably still best to wait but if you really can't wait rinse/waterfloss your teeth and then swish with a fluoride mouthwash for 1 minute and then put your trays on
I have braces so i have to brush my braces after every meal (and/or snacks) so technically that's about three times a day, if i brush before my first meal, that's either gonna make me brush about four times a day which weakens enamel, or not brush until i had my lunch which is more than one hour, so both situations will put me with a weak enamel so brushing after breakfast is my routine, i do use mouthwash when i wake up though
Just don’t apply some much pressure when brushing. Also, use soft bristles on your toothbrush. You should 100% brush immediately after waking. This is the ONLY way it should be done. Also, I’ve had braces too. It’s just one of those things your gonna have to deal with. Braces take a good bit of care and maintenance, if a dentist and/or dental hygienist tells you something you should be doing with your teeth, I’d recommend doing it. What the worst thing that could happen? You end up with fresh breath. And like I said, don’t use enamel as an excuse, because I’ve brushed too hard and for my whole life, so I’ve got slightly thinking enamel. All you need to do is use a toothbrush with softer bristles… problem solved, teeth clean, and breath fresh.
I normally brush my teeth AFTER eating breakfast. AS SOON as I’m done eating breakfast, i gargle/Swish with warm water to get all the food out, wait 30 minutes, THEN brush/floss/act mouthwash.
It does not add up, so you mentioned that it is optimal to brush your teeth two times a day (after waking up and before sleep), but then you also said that it is best that you wake up brush, then wait 30-60 minutes to brush again, which implies that actually a person should brush his teeth two times in the morning and one time before bed which in the end adds up to 3 times. So which version should one really believe in?
My coversation with chatgbt: q: how long should take to wait before eating after brushing my eat in the morning? A: It is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after brushing your teeth in the morning before eating. This is because brushing your teeth can temporarily increase the acidity in your mouth, which can weaken your tooth enamel. Eating food immediately after brushing can increase the risk of tooth decay, as the food can cause further damage to the weakened enamel. By waiting 30 minutes after brushing, you allow time for your mouth to return to a neutral state, reducing the risk of tooth decay. After this time, you can safely eat your breakfast without any negative impact on your oral health. *Please answer question here: So I wake up and brush my teeth then wait how many minutes before I can eat in the morning?
I have to take medication when I wake up and wait a while to eat so this is actually kind of helpful. I can take my meds, then brush and wait to eat. After breastfast brushing though...that may or may not happen.
If you're using floride toothpaste you would want to wait 30 mins before eating because the floride won't be doing anything if you don't wait and you might as well just brush with water
Would you ever consider making a video about xylitol sugar free gums and mints? Do they actually work at neutralising the sugar acids in your mouth? Thank you! :)
yes I have a chewing gum video coming soon!!!! xylitol can definitely help!!! it doesn't replace brushing - but it's a great addition! stay tuned for the video :)
I was wondering if I should get Invisalign and you made a video. This morning I was wondering if it's fine if I just eat my breakfast before brushing because I was starving and didn't want that minty taste in my mouth and I see this in my feed! 😂👌🏾
Which toothpaste do you use? Most toothpaste contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) which is a foaming agent. If you brush your teeth before breakfast with a toothpaste that contains SLS, it can cause that unpleasant, bitter sensation/flavor in your mouth. So changing to a toothpaste without SLS might help!
I always brushed before breakfast bc it was just nasty to me to eat all that morning gunk with my meal😖 then I'd brush after when I went to school since I had braces then.
Something I do and I’m not sure if it a good thing or not, but I put a bit of mouthwash in my water flosser with the water so it keeps some fluoride on my teeth after I rinse after breakfast
Since I have braces, my orthodontist wants me to brush after because I can’t leave food stuck in my teeth or brackets… before I had braces I brushed before so it makes sense I even wait 30 minutes after breakfast to brush
I don't know if you still have braces so this may not be useful but it's probably better to waterfloss or use an interdental brush to get the food out but what you're doing is fine as long as you wait 30 mins after eating to brush
Right after consuming sugary foods (e.g. soda or sweets), I will vigorously gargle a large amount of water throughout my mouth and towards my teeth. And of course spit it out and repeat this a few times. Should I continue this practice?
But the plaque and sugars will stay in your mouth since breakfast? And that’s more harmfull for your teeth right? Because rinsing with water isn’t removing plaque,..

Your videos are so helpful. Wish I knew all 30 years ago.

God bless the honest answers.
Best scrubs in the game!
Thanks for the advice! My teeth are much healthier and i subbed!
I have hypothyroidism and have to take medicine on an empty stomach and wait an hour before eating, so I guess I can thank my thyroid for that!
Lol
Why not brush with just water before breakfast and after breakfast use a floride mouthwash
Lmao.
@@Zoe-sn9tbThinking of this as well
Omg i needed this. Thing is, my breath smells like waffles in the morning, which makes me feel abit skeptical about eating without brushing before 🤣
This video reassured me i am a mouth breather lol
I just never eat breakfast, problem solved I guess 🤷♂️
Jokes aside I find that chewing gum after eating is the best way to go because it’s keeps breath fresh and teeth feeling clean. So if I were to eat breakfast I would brush first, then pop in some gum after. Plus, I just like chewing gum!
Just don’t chew too much gum, and if you chew a ton, use sugar free. Gum can rot teeth also.
Great Video! I was literally wondering about this.
Technically it’s best to floss before you brush. I was told this by dentists and have read it in numerous places.
Wow! I wish I was taught this years ago. I'm going to make this change in 2022!
For me in the morning, I'm thinking:
- Electric toothbrush (don't spit)
- String floss
- Tongue scraper
- Rinse and drink water to clear throat
(Skincare)
(Eat breakfast)
- Fluoride mouthwash without alcohol and a sense-making ph (don't rinse)
In my Little Country, at least 90% of the people brushes their teeth as they wake up before they eat breakfast, it's common sense for us, I mean whose gonna eat breakfast with Morning Breath, that's just weird, because morning breath mixed with your breakfast doesn't really change the morning breath taste in your mouth all that much.
BINGO!! I 100% agree with you on this.
So with me I wake up brush and use a mouthwash. I wait at least 30 minutes before eating breakfast so I don’t just wash all that fluoride away. After breakfast, I immediately rinse my mouth with water to remove all the food particles. I wait at least another 30 minutes to brush again.
If only I have that much time in the morning
so if possible we should brush our teeth before breakfast wait 30-60min then brush again?
that is ideal :) :) :)
Wow 🤩 I didn’t know that thanks 🙏 for teaching all these years I didn’t brush properly no wonder why I keep getting cavities 🦷😁
How about swishing mouth with baking soda (dissolved in water)? Neutralizes acids instantly and probably kills bacteria too.
Thank you again for your time! :)
What about brushing your teeth, THEN eating immediately or if you just skip the meal entirely after brushing? I was told one time by my dentist that I shouldn't eat 2 minutes after brushing my teeth or nothing would taste right.
If this is your plate after having breakfast , you should go back and finish our meal
What about if you only drink coffee as a breakfast is still better before? Tks
Thank you 🙏 you changed my life
When I was little and went to sleepovers with my white American friends they would always brush after eating breakfast and I thought it was strange but I'm not originally American so I brushed it off, but I always would ask them why they wanted to swallow the germs from the night before LMAO. Not exactly how that works but I guess it's also a cultural thing.
Good to know! Thank you 🫶
But...then they get dirty again and my orange juice tastes bitter
Use baking soda instead of minty toothpaste, or at least a paste without SLS - a foaming agent, and no more bitter tastes.
If you're going to eat
@@Zoe-sn9tb but at least bother with the brush. The "compromise" given here is to just wait after eating and not bothering to brush before eating at all.
It would be like answering the question, "Should you pee before or after sex". And the answer being both. Pee before, or have less liquid, as a full bladder is uncomfortable, wait and provide foreplay to make sex even more enjoyable, then pee right after sex, don't wait until after cuddling, to avoid UTI and some jerk says to comprise with pee right away and cuddle after without even bothering with the discomfort via different positions or lube instead of prolonged foreplay.
so i can wash my mouth with mouthwash right after my breakfast? i don't even need to wait 30-60 minutes before mouth washing?
What do you recommend for people doing Invisalign? How can we wait 30-60 mins after every meal to brush and floss before putting trays back on 😫
Probably still best to wait but if you really can't wait rinse/waterfloss your teeth and then swish with a fluoride mouthwash for 1 minute and then put your trays on
these info i hope i knew them years ago
thanks
What should someone do that eats like 6 times a day?
2 times a day I would consider mandatory. The third brush, the one after breakfast, I would consider that optional and healthy dental upkeep.
My coversation with chatgbt:
q: how long should take to wait before eating after brushing my eat in the morning?
She and others have clearly stated, “30 or so minutes.”
@@slamshammers she never stated if this is true after brushing teeth, just after eating breakfast
I have to take medication when I wake up and wait a while to eat so this is actually kind of helpful. I can take my meds, then brush and wait to eat. After breastfast brushing though...that may or may not happen.
Well due to the fact that I eat only once a day,I like brushing before and after then a 3rd time before bed.
Why only one meal a day?
@@mr.perksy for me sometimes I still feel too full or I feel like fasting

Yes! I have been doing to it right! 😄😄 THANK YOU this was a big question!
yay! thank YOU for watching :)
Also, don’t forget to floss BEFORE you brush.
What about if you use mouthwash at night? that is supposed to kill bacteria & prevent plaque.
I've been told to brush 30 mins BEFORE & AFTER breakfast, is the before part true?
I would just brush before eating then after eating use mouthwash before you go somewhere
If you're using floride toothpaste you would want to wait 30 mins before eating because the floride won't be doing anything if you don't wait and you might as well just brush with water
@@Zoe-sn9tb are there different forms of toothpaste other than floride??? My entire life is a lie 🤯
I brush before eating breakfast
Would you ever consider making a video about xylitol sugar free gums and mints? Do they actually work at neutralising the sugar acids in your mouth? Thank you! :)
yes I have a chewing gum video coming soon!!!! xylitol can definitely help!!! it doesn't replace brushing - but it's a great addition! stay tuned for the video :)
When you brush in the morning, how long should you wait after spitting out the toothpaste ? Before you start eating??
You can use baking soda instead of minty toothpaste
@@asdfwerty3391 Hello brand makes SLS-free toothpastes.
TLDR: Dont mix sleep bacteria with food bacteria.
Highly recommended to brush your teeth while you eat
Can you chew gum after breakfast?
I would always brush after I wake up. Eat then rinse with water and use a mouthwash after rinsing
Very interesting and good info!
Wow I was right I feel like I need a refreshing when I wake up before I eat anything
I always brushed before breakfast bc it was just nasty to me to eat all that morning gunk with my meal😖 then I'd brush after when I went to school since I had braces then.
exactly. i cant do NOTHING until i brush my teeth... I can barely pray first lol
Something I do and I’m not sure if it a good thing or not, but I put a bit of mouthwash in my water flosser with the water so it keeps some fluoride on my teeth after I rinse after breakfast
it can't hurt! sounds good to me :)
I fight with my cousins in this conversation lol
Should one brush their teeth when they wake up in the morning or just rinse ?
Then what about drinking water as people say water drinking before brush is good but won't it take all the bacteria inside our body?
Very helpful recommendations, I thank you very much!
I’m a living testimony #Doctorojie cured my herpes .
Since I have braces, my orthodontist wants me to brush after because I can’t leave food stuck in my teeth or brackets… before I had braces I brushed before so it makes sense I even wait 30 minutes after breakfast to brush
Same with me!
I don't know if you still have braces so this may not be useful but it's probably better to waterfloss or use an interdental brush to get the food out but what you're doing is fine as long as you wait 30 mins after eating to brush
It’s also possible to brush before and after breakfast.
Bro I was trying to figure this question for my entire Life
who else's inner gamer has been activated and now feels like they should brush before every meal and 30 minutes after every meal
Watched you for first time. I loved the way you move when you talk while being informative :)
Can you just rinse with water after you eat to neutralize any acids?
that helps alot and it totally recommended :)
So should we brush before n after every meal?
What if I just rinse my mouth with water after wake up in the morning, have a breakfast and then brush my teeth with toothpaste after 20-30 mins.
Is it okay to brush with toothpaste and rins with mouth wash before eating breakfast?
Right after consuming sugary foods (e.g. soda or sweets), I will vigorously gargle a large amount of water throughout my mouth and towards my teeth. And of course spit it out and repeat this a few times. Should I continue this practice?
is it ok to brush your teeth 4 times a day? before breakfast, then 30 mins after breakfast and before dinner, then 30 mins after dinner?
But the plaque and sugars will stay in your mouth since breakfast? And that’s more harmfull for your teeth right? Because rinsing with water isn’t removing plaque,..
