That is a beautiful model I bought one straight away great value for money now and a lovely looking thing thank you for sharing this with us keep up the good work thanks again
Like you Jenny, I didn't buy one initially because of the price. I pre-ordered the Oxford Rail one instead when it was announced several years ago, but now this great offer has come along, and as the Oxford version seems to be nowhere on the horizon, I've snapped up a Southern version of this Bachmann model. As you say, it really is now at a bargain price.
I just had to have one when they first came out partly because my Grandad worked at Ransomes and Rapier. Good video as usual and agree Bachmann didn't push them enough.
Two notes: 1.) for those of us across the pond, there will be significant shipping charges as the boxing is quite bulky - but that is okay, considering the great model within, 2.) to accurately deploy the crane in situ, the outriggers would be resting on pads usually consisting of criss-crossed layers of timbers, which would be carried in the boxes on the service wagon. I bought one, and even at the shipping costs, am very pleased with the model, having been a crane operator (mobile and crawler track-mounted) in the past. TMC did us right on this.
Hi Jenny, this is a great crane at the price, it’s a shame Bachmann didn’t produce a network rail yellow livery model, maybe the collectors club might have one, I’m sure so very clever modellers have motorised one of these to dc/dcc operation like the Roco digital crane, the Roco 73035 EDK 750 crane has an eye watering price tag, thanks for sharing.
I came away with the GWR version of this model from Haworth station, yesterday. The assistant had to get it down from the top shelf using a step stool. Having informed me that he didn't like heights, I don't know who was the most dizzy when I saw the price. A slight bargain, but at £213. Not as cheap as yours. I was nervously trying to find out how not to break this valuable model and was impressed with your detailed information. This model is a present for my Bachmann WD green 2:8:0, so hopefully it will look right. Oh, there are two preserved cranes like this at the KWVR. One at Intake west museum and one in the the yard at Haworth.
👍👍Fabulous review Jenny! An absolutely amazing piece of rolling stock, such great details, love dark gray/black color Bachmann chose. The working mechanism is a very BIG PLUS! 🚂🚂
Trix have produced the Krupp 57t crane and goliath cranes in fully operating DCC. The Roco EDK750 is fully operational and as a self driving vehicle it has even more functionality. They have also made it possible to drive it with a Playstation controller. The prices are a clear indication of where a Bachmann version with full DCC would end up. The model has to be reliable and provide years of good service while at the same time having delicate construction to make it visually pleasing. I think they were right to leave it manually powered and it is sad to see such good models, effectively remaindered. It is a brilliant offer . I have been waiting for the Oxford rail crane - Their price point is incredibly ambitious - I wonder what will arrive.
I keep looking at this crane, and wondering if I can justify the (reduced) cost - for something that will probably just sit in the 'yard' and never move. One part of my head says to grab it while it is there - but the other part keeps saying what for?
That's an interesting packaging solution. The Fleischmann one was stored with the boom in the lower position but that one came with 3 cars which sorted out the length issue. I think that the reason to skip having it DCC fitted is the price point. Both the Roco one mentioned below and the Trix one have way less moving parts but come at a staggering price point, with the Trix one having a 1000 euro price tag
Is it possible to make that crane remote controlled? This means the arm, hook, and body move when you press something on the controller. I want to get one of those and send it to a mode, train retailer that does that. Do you know any retail that will do that for me?

Well you got me off the fence , and I bought the GWR one. Yep can't beat $130. The best part of the video was that sweet little tank locomotive.

Thank you for another Wonderful video Jenny
Great review! This model is a vast improvement over the previous Hornby version which was a bit toy-like. At the 50% price it's hard to resist!
Hi Jenny has Dave left Hattons?? Is Clark a new model store and are their prices competitive?? Good review. Cheers
