    Yes, I have this thing, before I had the S612 and then the S01.
    Both were a pain in the ass to edit because they were rack modules and always having the panel in front was uncomfortable to edit.
    But with this S-20 things were more comfortable and much more in the style of an MPC drum machine. In fact, it is a very interesting mini MPC, it has a very good engine for sampling and although it is scary at first, it is really intuitive to edit.
    I love this machine, it is a small wonder from the past where it greatly solved the space problem in the studio.
    I still use it with great enthusiasm, and the truth is that for down tempo, trip-hop, it's great.
    Great video thankxx

    Have one since today. Played with it for 2 hours. Feels great to play around with this wonderful machine. Love it, even with just the basic features. Will do upgrades soon. Got a gotek card. Have to look around for the simm memory as well. Thanks for the step by step explanation

    Man I was already going in on a MPC 3000, by the time this came out... Now if I had one of these when I couldn't afford a SP 1200, I would of been a beast on this MF... I was making Pause Beats on Tape & re-recording vocals on em like a 4-8 track!!!🥳🤩🥳 #GreatVidBro...🎥🎬🎥

    Recently, I listened to a song I made by the end of the 90's. It had lush orchestral strings on it. They sounded really great, like a big studio soundstage recording , but somehow altered by the passing of time , and it gave the track a very nostalgic feel...And I just couldn't remember how the Hell I had done these strings at the time.
    Now I do !
    I used my S20, sampled a bunch of string ensemble one-note unisons off some record , and played the strings chromatically on a keyboard, like chords. Then added a lot of reverb :-)
    Lord I wish I could use these strings samples again . But then I moved to bigger samplers, more "pro", and I sold the S20 and lost the associated disks.
    grrr.

    hey man, would you have any tips on why my pad 1 is permanently stuck hold mode, and pads 6-8 won’t make a sound unless in edit mode? appreciate your help 🫡

    • @100PercentBOOTLEG
      @100PercentBOOTLEG  3 дні тому

      hmm sounds like something internal. are you using the correct power supply? also, if you have a floppy saved that pad 1 was not in hold mode, try loading that up and see if it clears the problem..

    I have the Remix88 (blacked S20) but it is screwed up on floppy drive no matter if I switch it out with another one, it consistently displays an ERRD message. I have tried all my floppies in count of 20 disks and tired of this crap, and decided to upgrade it with floppy emulator. Second problem I faced after emulator came in - it was incompatible with my sampler so I had to flash it with custom firmware (which is free and not HxC) and created a hundreds of virtual floppy disks on USB stick. After all of this I finally managed to save and load my projects. This machine is a treasure.

    • @100PercentBOOTLEG
      @100PercentBOOTLEG  9 місяців тому

      hmm I honestly don't know off the top, I'd have to try it out -- don't really use the sequencer on the s20

    • @andy.langusta
      @andy.langusta 9 місяців тому +2

      Hey bro! There is no way, unfortunately. This sequencer is more like a sketch midi notepad, almost unusable. You can sequence the machine with any DAW or groovebox (a-la Korg Electribe) tho. Good luck! It's a dope little box!

    Even though the Akai s20 screen says “r 16” for the 16mb upgrade, it’s actually 17mb. The 16mb upgrade RAM is added to the 1mb standard that it came with factory, making the s20 17mb. 🤓
