  • How To Embroidery on Leather | Avancé 1501C
Being able to embroider on leather is essential for certain embroidery jobs like motorcycle vests and equestrian accessories.
These are the kind of jobs that people will pay big money for. But leather is expensive, so it's important to not mess it up! This could end up costing you money.
Another great way to decorate motorcycle vests is with patches. This way you don't have to worry about the embroidery possibly messing up the vest. You sew out your patch on a special material, then heat apply it on!
See how it works in this video: • Custom Embroidered Pat...
So I have gone through my leather embroidery process, in the hopes that it helps you!
    Leather Hooping Guide:
Leather is a stretchy material, so you need to make sure it's stabilized.
Cutaway backing is the best choice for this.
When hooping, make sure the material is nice and taught inside. Loosen the hoops tension knob slightly, then when the leather is hooped you can tighten it so make it nice and secure.
Good digitizing is very important for this material because leather can be kind of thin. When puncturing a lot of holes in it, it could easily ruin it. While our design is very detailed and has TONS of stitches, we ensured that our digitized design was not too dense. This order was placed through ColDesi Graphics.
This motorcycle club logo is very detailed and has 75,000 stitches. Something like this is going to take a long time. That's why I like to call it a "set it and forget it" type of job. I set up my machine to do the work, and get other things done around the shop in the meantime!
The Avancé 1501C is a commercial embroidery machine, but its compact size and user-friendliness makes it perfect for a home based business or even a hobbyist who wants a reliable machine.
The Avancé 1201C is another great option if you are looking for something a little smaller and quieter. See it in action in this video: • Embroidered Polos & Cu...

How do you program a design? Say a customer wants a custom logo made, do you have them send an autocad or adobe design to you or do you outsource to another company?

Im looking at this exact machine but Im seeing a lot of feedback that there are issues with thread breaks. Is there a real customer on here not a coldesi rep that can give me honest feedback on this machine?

check out google reviews, there are tons. ALL embroidery machines will have some threadbreaks, there is no evidence that supports the Avance experiences any more. In fact we continue to update the machines to sew better and better every year.

    Great video
I am working with a large garment (non leather) embroidery shop.
The first samples show the edge between the leather and the embroidery is 70% holes and 30% leather. Is there a target on how tight the needle spacing should go? I am concerned about tearing as it is a car seat.

Generally speaking you can go very tight on leather without it tearing, however its ALWAYS best to test and practice. If you can purchase some test material that is ideal.

I have the stitch samples already. The hole is larger than the thread, or the stitch pattern is pulling towards center and causes the hole enlargement. Typically one side is tighter than the other, assuming the tight side is the first side to stitch. Happy to send you a photo if possible. Pattern is 30x40mm placed 60mm apart.
