Thanks I didn’t really want a custom doorbell but this makes it easy to have you doorbells always ring at max volume, since you can’t set that in HomeKit unless you want all the sound at max level.
Great video as always and this opened my eye to solve another problem, that was on how to having my Sonos speaker ringing when the doorbell was pressed, just used the same logic and the Eve app and is done. Thanks man 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Great overview Shane.
I've played with this a bit in the past, and some super-cool sound effects can be found/created for the set-up.
The problem that I always had was getting stuff that was playing to automatically resume after a doorbell (sound effect) action occurred. There are ways to do it, but they are cumbersome and FAR less than reliable. If I had an Apple Music Playlist going when someone rang the bell it would 'sometimes' return to the Playlist using (several) different Shortcuts...but getting audio playback to restore for HomePods that were being used as AppleTV Default Audio would ALWAYS require a bunch of nonsense to get back to correct.
I found that it wasn't worth my aggravation.
My experiences notwithstanding, it is a cool thing that can be useful in the proper situation.
Ah yes, good point. Thanks for bringing that up. That is the big downside to using Apple Music Sound Effect automations.

Of course it makes sense, but seeing the doorbell as a standard button was eye opening. I previously used the Eve app to investigate the other aspects of each device I had that could be accessed via the Eve app. I need to do this again and inspire new ideas for automations!

Hi, I appreciate your useful videos , I need your support regarding the Logitech circle doorbell, I have added the ring tones to my HomePods, but I would also like to adjust the notification on my phone, is there a way to do that . Have a different notification when someone’s rings the doorbell when I’m not in the house . Thank you
The only way this would be possible is to use a third party app like Controller for HomeKit or Pushcut for more advanced notifications. I made a video a while back on custom notifications with the Controller for HomeKit app.
The native HomeKit chime feature seems to be very hit or miss. Seems like more miss than anything. Mine worked at one time, but does not ring on the HomePod mini anymore. Searching for a solution it seems this is a common problem. Do you know of any solution to this?
Hi Shane, great video. Can you try the same automation on Wemo video doorbell? I tried on mine and it causes the home app to crash when i go to the automation tab.
Thanks for watching. Sorry but I don't have a Wemo doorbell currently installed. If the home app is crashing, it's likely a bug of some sort. I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with which doorbell you are using.

Does this still work if you add a doorbell into HomeKit through HOOBS or Homebridge such as a reolink doorbell?
Yes it should work. As long as you can access the doorbell's button press in automations (Eve app).
I’ve got the Aqara G4 and all 3 of my HomePods connected. Sometimes they chime. Sometimes they don’t.
Sometimes they even tell me who is at the door; but I haven’t been able to determine if they’re from the faces I’ve added in the aqara app or the ones already in the Apple home.
It would be great to understand this bit because then either a) you could assign specific chimes to specific people or b) automatically unlock the door for my mother without needing to explain another simple app to her. Any chance of exploring the recognition side of the equation sometime?
If your homepods are announcing who is at the door, that is being done through HomeKit and determined by the facial recognition feature in Apple Home.
That said, you should be able to setup custom ringtone alerts for specific people if you are using the Aqara G4. This is only possible through the Aqara app facial recognition though. If you have the Aqara door lock, you I believe you can create an automation to unlock the door when the G4 doorbell recognizes your mother's face.
I just want to make the door bell sound from my Home pods louder with out ALL the sound being that loud... Is there a way to do that with my Logitec Circle view?
As far as I'm aware there is not a way to adjust the sound of the standard chime.
Is it also possible to use iTunes Match instead of Apple Music? This is only 25€ a year.

I stopped watching after you said subscription to Apple Music. That’s not what I was looking for. I’m using unifi g4 doorbell pro through home bridge and want to customize my motion alerts through the HomePods. I want to use my own sound without Apple Music.
I did use my own music files, but unfortunately the only way to automate this through HomeKit still requires an Apple Music subscription .
@@ShaneCreates any way to replace the built in ambient sounds with your own? I’m likely one of those few that hasn’t given in to the Apple lords and switched to Apple Music. I still use UA-cam music as I also use PCs.
I also have controller for HomeKit and Eve but they also seem limited. There has to be a way to do this through calling a custom shortcut.
