Hungarian Gypsy Music

- Romani music or Gipsy music is the music of the Romani people, who have their origins in northern India, but today live mostly in Europe. Historically nomadic, though now largely settled, the Romani people have long acted as entertainers and tradesmen. In many of the places Romanies live they have become known as musicians. The wide distances travelled have introduced a multitude of influences of Byzantine, Greek, Arabic, Indian, Persian, Turkish, Slavic, Romanian, German, Dutch, French, Spanish and even Jewish musical forms. It is difficult to define the parameters of a unified Romani musical style, as there are many differences in melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and formal structures from region to region. Lyrics to Romani songs are often sung in one or more dialects of the Romani language, and dance frequently accompanies Romani music performance.
The quintessentially Spanish flamenco is to a very large extent the music (and dance, or indeed the culture) of the Romani people of Andalusia. Apart from Romani music for local use, in Eastern Europe a separate Romani music originated for entertainment at parties and celebrations. This music drew its themes from Hungarian, Romanian, Russian and other sources. Later on it gained popularity in Western Europe, where many Romani orchestras were active, playing sophisticated melodies of East European origin. Most Romani music is based on the folk music of the countries where the Romani went through or settled. Local music is adopted and performed - usually instrumental - and, slowly, it is transformed into Romani styles, which are usually more complex than the original styles. In its turn, Romani music has greatly influenced the local music.

Same to you.
You have to see that music comes forth from the people. It is not always a matter of unique taste. If you were born of these people, you would enjoy their expression in music. I know I was unnecessarily rude to you before. I apologize.
As a French, my grandfather was a hungarian romani. These musics are a part of my origins that I don't know very well, I'm happy to listen them, thank you very much.

My black dream has awakened me to a time I have not been. I find myself listening to Hungarian music more and more. I don't speak or understand Hungarian language. I have been playing guitar since I was at least 5 that's all I can remember this time around. Something I can't explain draws me to this music. I absolutely love it. I feel as if my ancestors are trying to tell me something. My dreams are always full of music and crowds of welcoming strangers. When I listen . I know the difference between reality and not. But when I sleep I go to the same place. Someplace beautiful. Why can't my reality be as sweet as my dreams? I sometimes feel as I'm being called back. Back to my family's family. To a place I have never been to. But also a place I have never left. I feel I'm being called. It's so intoxicating. So pleasing to me. Do I have a curse? If I do, I don't care. I'm here for you. Who ever you are. I'm ready for your will.
Wow that's amazing
its not in hungarian. its in the language of Hungarian Roma maybe Lovara Romanes.

It sounds Spanish even tho it’s Romani
Thats because alot of spanish music is heavily influenced by romani music as well.
probably because of the fact that the languages share roman influence
Romani speakers are pretty much all bilingual and borrow words from whatever country they’re in. It also means it’s hard for Romani people to speak Romani with each other because their dialects might be too different from all the borrowed words. The music featured here seems to be from Spain, thus the Spanish words sprinkled in here and there.
To add a musical element to what people answered you, Romani music like Spanish and Arabian music uses a lot of similar element like a scale which is called "Double Harmonic major(and it's minor counterpart)", the altered dorian(also called the romani scale), hungarian major/minor. And also use of cadence like the andalusian cadence which sound like "the flamenco" musical cliché. And i haven't even mention the crazy rythm and improvisational tradition for the gypsy/spanish part or the incredible use of quarter tone in arabian makamat or traditional klezmer. Anyway, sorry if it sounded pedantic, just shared few elements if you got interest in those kind of music on the theoretical pov.
the planet is round, we share alot of things since people have been intermingling for 5000 years
To me the human spirit is many things, one of those things is survival. This beautiful music is the spirit of survivor's.

Los Hunos
Back in 1972, I spent a few days in the southern part of Sindh (which is one of the four provinces of Pakistan, in the southeast of the country, and the historical home of the Sindhi people) where I attended a traditional Sindh folk music recital. The singing and melodies were practically identical to the Spanish Gitano songs.
@@Vierotchka the thar desert is shared by sindhis and rajasthanis. The Roma are a mix of both ethnicities but mostly rajasthani.
@@gagansingh5055 They are not a mix of any ethnic groups, they are their own ethnic group. They originate from further north in the Indus Valley. The origin of maternal and paternal Roma chromosomes stems from North West India, in agreement with linguistic, cultural, and previous genetic studies.

Beautiful. This really sounds spanish to me for some reason, not the language, but the instruments and melody.
I tought it was just me.
Had the video playing on the background and had to look it up because it sounded like spanish but then I realized I couldn´t understand a word. BTW spanish is my first lenguage.
gipsys were a nomadic people, it makes sense their sound evokes other places where they have a strong presence. Spanish sounds take much from the gipsy culture so yeah
I speak Spanish, and recognize the word "soquete" (dumbass) said three times. I also heard "tu que pasa pena" (very informal way of saying "you are embarrasing yourself") a couple times.
Gypsies originate from India, and they immigrated to various countries of Europe. In Spain, they're known as "gitanos", and are usually seen as very aggressive people and are discriminated. They have their own communities in Spain, and create hierarchies based around "El Padre", who is the paternal figure who does the decision making in the family, and is often seen with a stick that is attributed to said "Padre". Hungary also has gypsy influence, so it's natural that some songs from this video here sound similar!
And because the gipsy emigration movement, pass through countries like modern Iran, and all the middle East, have that unique mixing of sounds, that evoque this lands, and the cultures living in.
Vlax gypsy. Lovari dialect.
Что за коллектив . столь талантливо и творчески включающий в музыку модьё цыганёк, ловарей, стили музыки не только азиатской, но и даже кантри...?
Solidarity to the Romani people of Hungary who are currently being oppressed by Hungary's ultra nationalist political leader Orban.
@G G As you can see they are so "oppressed" that the UA-cam is full of music from the Hungarian Roms. You do not know, for example, why immigrant Roma were expelled from France and Canada so democratic? So in your opinion England with its brexit is also "ultranationalist"?
Rest assured, Roma musicians in Hungary are highly regarded, but those who do not want to study or work, but who like to fly are not preferred anywhere. So we must distinguish and not generalize.
