@@vulpes7079 Yea, here you go: Bhai Gurdas Jee - Vaar 6, Pauri Having one women as wife he (the Sikh) is a celibate and considers any other’s wife as his daughter or a sister. Clearly, a Guru’s Sikh (if male) is allowed only one woman as his spouse, vice versa a Sikh woman is allowed only one man as hers. We can argue and debate that there is no mention of not being allowed to marry within the same gender. However, the word “ਨਾਰੀ” clearly means “woman” and in this Vaar it does not in any way refer to a woman having another woman as her spouse. Lets look at another Vaar. Without husband a woman cannot enjoy pleasures of bed. This means two things. It doesn’t say that a woman cannot enjoy a bed without a man, it says “without a husband”. So firstly, a Sikh (male or female) can have a physical relationship only with their married spouse (via Anand Karaj). Secondly, it clearly talks about a woman and her husband, not a woman and “her wife”, not a man and “his husband”. Sahib Sri Guru Amar Daas Paatshaah Jee says in Raag Soohee on Ang 788: ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਬਹਨਿ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together. They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. ||3|| Here (from my limited understanding so please correct me) ਧਨ refers to the wife and ਪਿਰੁ means husband. Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Paatshaah Jee Maharaj says in Asa Ki Vaar on Ang 473 (one of the most favorite Shabads quoted to teach how Sikhi is about gender equality) From woman, man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married. Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come. When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound. So why call her bad? From her, kings are born. From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all. O Nanak, only the True Lord is without a woman. Now notice how clear this Shabad is. The question “ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖੀਐ” is put to the men who look upon women as inferior. Why see her as inferior when “ਭੰਡਿ ਮੰਗਣੁ ਵੀਆਹੁ”, when a woman is the one you (you men) are engaged and married to. You men are bound with women “ਭੰਡਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਬੰਧਾਨੁ”. Bhagat Kabeer Jee says in Raag Gond on Ang 872: ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ Without a mother or father there is no child. In the pangti below, it is clearly stated that the physical relation is between a man and woman, not a man and man or woman and woman.
"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear"......Wahe Guru! A lifetime of being a 'spiritual misfit' with many 'issues' and some mental health difficulties. I recently asked God to please help me to stop these awful thoughts and memories I have been plagued with for most of my life. Literally within days of that plea for divine help I find your UA-cam channel and your advice about how to stop bad thoughts and already my mind is clear of clutter and the method so simple and so very powerful. I now realize that I have always been an 'undercover Sikh'. I learned a form of what I now know to be Shabd Yoga way back in the 80's not until now having the depth of the experience I am now having as a result of finding your work here on this channel. This video resonates with me as a gay man. I have found the worst of my problems come about because I seem to have internalized the negativity I have encountered from a number of people through my life. This realization has come about as a direct result of the beautiful sense of peace detachment and joy....you have inspired within me.......The Gurus Gift. Wahe Guru!!
I think the question was addressed, but maybe not as directly as some might have hoped for. The crux was can you be a Sikh and be a homosexual. The two is different and then the question is can there be unity? I believe so. The Lust part applies to ANY sexuality or person, therefore having a monogamous faithful partner in a context of marriage (be it man-man, woman-man or woman-woman) allows one to express those sexual energies that the Guru spoke about but in a healhty way. Guru Nanak described living an "active, creative, and practical life" of "truthfulness, fidelity, self-control and purity" as being higher than the metaphysical truth. - In this I resonate with the speaker that Homosexuality Or in fact Heterosexuality has nothing to do with being Sikh - as the journey is to be closer to God, yet your sexuality is with you along on that journey, but it's NOT the destination.
As a bisexual, a transgender man and a Sikh, I really feel that gender has nothing to do with being Sikh. It's the human condition. Guru is within everyone. Waheguru
its not about religion.. its about awareness.. 10-20 years back even most of americans were against gays... but with awareness it changed.. indians are also changing... right now all big indian political parties support gay rights and are supporting them in supreme court.. once legal.. people will start realising.. slowly at first but hopefully it will happen..
I'm not homosexual but I've always dealt with shame over sexual feelings and lust. I like how this man says that everything is sexual. He's right. Our entire existence is driven by sexual energy. Everything is duality. Even in the digital world, it is the binary code of 1s and 0s that make things work. God gave us sexual energy and capabilities. I've noticed that "fighting" against this desire only makes things worse. It creates a shame and guilt that puts you at a lower state of consciousness and when you have such low self worth, you are susceptible to overindulgence to make yourself feel better. It's a vicious cycle. I used the same method to overcome alcohol abuse. Don't fight the urges. Accept they are there and own them. Then they are under your control.
Sexuality as a private matter is one thing however, homosexuality is far from being private. I have never understood limiting oneself to just one aspect of being human?
@preetnagra I am certain it was not seen to be an issue in the Gurus time that is why they did not address it. Love is experienced, it is felt, and often there is a need to have a "union" with the person you are in love with. This may be "lust" in your eyes, but when two people are deeply in love with one another engaging in a union deepens attachment to all. Oh and do you mean a gay couple can live with one another, adopt a child and not engage in sex, and that is okay? There would be no lust
I guess his views are more Westernised than the usual Sikhs you'd find in India , who went up against New Delhi Court and condemned the verdict when it was legalised. But I'm happy that this man is atleast wise
Obviously both one's sexuality & religion may come into play if one wants to get married, but one's religion, or the laws of one's country, do not allow homosexuals to marry. This aspect of being both a homosexual & a Sikh was not really addressed in the above clip., but nevertheless, may be something that is important to homosexual Sikhs.
Wow...This guru teaches with such deep wisdom. Sikhism is about non-discrimination and compassion for all. That is really inspiring! I guess when a religion's central teachings are not stained with discrimination and condemning segments of society (like toxic Judaism, Christianity and Islam), the message that flows from that belief system, as is Sikhism's, is toxic-free! Sikh's try to practice pure compassion.
Is homosexual marriage allowed in Sikhism ? I completely understand the idea sir has but I am curious on knowing about the marriage part! how free are they to live together in the society and get married under all the rehats that a sikh follows during marriage?
I think having homosexual feelings is no different to hetrosexual feelings. However, physical sexual activity is restricted even for hetrosexuals within Sikhi. Sexual relations are only accepted within marriage. Sikh marriage is between a man and a woman. Sikhi is not against celibacy which some people decide to take. 'Lust' or 'kaam' is an enemy in spiritual progression.
dave21253 Sikh marriage is of 'two souls,' not a man and woman. Please do not confuse the Sri Guru Granth Sahib with the socially affected Rehat Maryadha of today. I do agree regarding Kaam, however. All vices must not control you, they must not overtake you.
There are homosexual, gender-non-conforming gods from Hinduism in SGGS. I also believe that Kam is explained as if it were a conversation directed at a straight man. Aka, “sex without reproduction(love)” I believe is to tell men not to cheat, tell their wives to be faithful, as unfaithfulness is far more common of a “problem” if homosexuality can even be called a problem… (it can’t)
I am so grateful to this man. Religion does not control your sexuality. Lifestyle? It's yours! Nobody should control it unless you are not harming anyone. This man has such an open mind.
As a conversation between two men, perhaps the real issue is unspeakable and.hard to define because it is patriarchal authoritarianism that insists on the cultural policing of gender and sex interpretation.
Wow this was eye opening, I've never seen a sikh before and realising that they exist is something straight out of my nightmares, keep doing what you're doing and may God bless you! I pray I never dream of you again as I am looking to finally get some rest and respite from my waking dreams. Mashallah. 👳🏾
Honest question for any knowledgeable sikhs. So am I right to say that the God of sikhi condones the homosexual lifestyle? From the video that’s what I’m getting. Also, he says “who’s to judge the lifestyle, it’s your own affair“. Is this scriptural ?
It's not the least accepting he calls it perversion towards the end. Sex could be perversion but it could be holy as well but here it's only related to perversion. Marriages are celebrated and considered holy. But here it's depicted as one form of perversion. This false acceptance clearly shows what's inside of him. I had a gay friend who I met online and he said people will not understand this ever and asked me to not bother and after 15 years from that incident I always remember his words whenever I fall trap to such false acceptances. This was initially refreshing but then I was like hey wait this looks too good to be real and I should watch again for clues and there you go - towards the end he just relates it to one kind of perversion. Marriages are purified and retualized and what not but here.. pity!
I think you make a very good point for everybody...religion & sexuality dont have much in common...150 perversions in every body..? Wow! And who can really judge anybody else's perversions then..??? I like your outlook on the matter...where can i learn more about sikhism..???
brilliant answer , how about oranges are both sweet and tart BUT they are both oranges , they are both loved and enjoyed by everyone and no one really cares , no one wants to wipe out tart oranges or disown sweet ones they take them as they find them
Read Ang 274, Shri Guru Granth Sahib, Ashtpadee, Shri Guru Arjun Dev Ji states: Eindhree Jith Panch Dhokh Thae Rehat: Who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions.
With due respect, these are just meandering words. Why cant someone be a homosexual sikh? Yeah it is a non issue for YOU because YOU don't get chastised and judged in the name of religion. Sorry, this was a disappointing answer that totally skirted the issue.
This is such a relief and very empowering for someone like me who is born in the Sikh religion and is gay and openly gay. Just hope that I can find a nice bf soul mate to settle down a husband Marriage
The eternal Guru of Sikhs, the holy book, Guru Granth Sahib, unlike other religions, doesn't prescribe on who to marry or whom not to. It addresses the soul. The subject matter in Guru Granth Sahib starts and ends with god and how our soul should connect to that god. With respect to issues of marriage/initiation ceremonies etc, the decisions have and still are up to the community to decide/amend if need be. Actually, unlike all Abrahamic religions (Christianity/Judaism/Islam), most, if not all religions which originated from the Indian subcontinent have had no issues with homosexuals whatsoever. The question or rather the issues arose from the colonial, eurocentric mindset, which projected its issues (during British colonial period) with homosexuals into Indian society. British made it so by introducing criminal anti-homosexuality laws into India that they had in Europe. Prior to that, we have a history in our ancient texts, centuries-old artifacts/temples depicting an inclusive society with/of genders and sexuality, including homosexuals.
@@rozqr4320 You've got that wrong. The Guru Granth Sahib Ji clearly states that marriage is between man and a woman only, it's called Anand Karaj in Sikhi. That sex before marriage is wrong. Don't talk about what you don't know!
@@fakefake322 You completely missed my point. I was establishing that the “issue” itself is European. And as such demanding “solution” to a problem that is a result of western thought is redundant. “Kam” is a vice in Bani. But unlike, other Indic school of thoughts, like yogic ( renounced worldly lifestyles), it’s repression /denying oneself also becomes a cause of agony, which is why, Disciplined married life is given importance ( and of-course “sex after marriage” is given ). Overindulgence/uncontrolled practice of not only sex( kaam ), but krodh, lobh, moh, hankaar leads to instability that invites “ਢਹਿੰਦੀ ਕਲਾ”. Perversion like the video states is a much more complex, fluid and defined by varied spectrum state.
@@rozqr4320 I haven't missed your point. Your point doesn't make sense in regards to the issue of same sex marriage being allowed in Sikhi. In Sikhi it simply isn't allowed. However, you are correct as in before the British, alternative sexualities were a part of a harmonious society. However, marriage, Anand Karaj is only for a man and a woman.
@gmustuk Because this was a non issue and hence needed no special mention. If love is the core subject of the matter then two men/women can still love each other without intercourse. Sex in Gurmat is 'just a tiny part' of a broader union between two opposite sexes and serves as a means to reproduce and not a source of pleasure. If it was otherwise I'm sure Gurus would have been pioneers in this as well and would have set an example exactly like they did with their shaheedis and other initiatives

Could you show some examples to prove your claims about Sikhism?

@@vulpes7079 Yea, here you go: Bhai Gurdas Jee - Vaar 6, Pauri 8
Having one women as wife he (the Sikh) is a celibate and considers any other’s wife as his daughter or a sister.
Bhai Gurdas Jee - Vaar 34, Pauri 21
Here (from my limited understanding so please correct me) ਧਨ refers to the wife and ਪਿਰੁ means husband.
Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Paatshaah Jee Maharaj says in Asa Ki Vaar on Ang 473 (one of the most favorite Shabads quoted to teach how Sikhi is about gender equality)
From woman, man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married.
Wahe Guru!!
loved this beautifully simplistic explanation! 💎
The best answer I have ever heard. I want to learn more.
Thank you great one!
Well received from Denver, CO
A very liberating message. May God bless :)
omg i love this
Nice to
As a bisexual, a transgender man and a Sikh, I really feel that gender has nothing to do with being Sikh. It's the human condition. Guru is within everyone. Waheguru

its not about religion.. its about awareness.. 10-20 years back even most of americans were against gays... but with awareness it changed.. indians are also changing... right now all big indian political parties support gay rights and are supporting them in supreme court.. once legal.. people will start realising.. slowly at first but hopefully it will happen..
it used to be legal for 2000 years then the victorian morality was imposed on us

@@Vastilious it depended on where you were and when, but yes absolutely the ancient world was not necessarily homophobic
they dont support gay rights bro where are you getting your info from? if that was the case, gay marriage would've been legalized years ago
Perfectly Said...
Sexuality as a private matter is one thing however, homosexuality is far from being private. I have never understood limiting oneself to just one aspect of being human?
I am just learning about the Sikh religion and wow what amazing people.
May Akaal purkh waheguru bless you,,
@preetnagra I am certain it was not seen to be an issue in the Gurus time that is why they did not address it.
Are you still alive
I guess his views are more Westernised than the usual Sikhs you'd find in India , who went up against New Delhi Court and condemned the verdict when it was legalised. But I'm happy that this man is atleast wise
You give a very good spiritual answer but you should really refer to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Jagraj Singh from Basics of Sikhi does.
I think the question has to do with... "Do Sikhs accept homosexuals within the Sikh community?"
WAHE GURU, THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND VIEWS
I think the Gay Sikh Gentleman was asking for a Sikh scripture ruling not your personal opinion, but I might be wrong.
In Sikhism humanity is the first preference it doesn't matter u are homosexual or not unless or if u are human
Love this video! He is an amazing man. I am on my journey I hope I take the correct paths.

He is so right. Oml, I love this!!!
The judgement of homosexuality comes from the Old Testament, which produced Christianity, Islam, and Judeism. Sikhism sounds cool not to judge....
An accepting faith!!!
This response was so great!
Is homosexual marriage allowed in Sikhism ? I completely understand the idea sir has but I am curious on knowing about the marriage part! how free are they to live together in the society and get married under all the rehats that a sikh follows during marriage?
No Anand Karaj is not allowed for same sex couples. Other than that they are free to live in any society just like anyone else.
Its not a very precise answer.
Can we have Anand Karaj of two males or two females at Sikh Gurudwaras?
no
Such brilliant insights..thank you Guruji 🙏🙏
I am so grateful to this man. Religion does not control your sexuality. Lifestyle? It's yours! Nobody should control it unless you are not harming anyone.
This man has such an open mind.
As long as* but yes I absolutely agree
this helped me allot. thank u
So well explained
Being sexual of homosexual has nothing to do with being sikh. Your sexuality is how you express your love and affection to other.
Thank you
sikhism is first religion in world to accept everyone.
Your answer is very appreciable👌👌👌👌
As a conversation between two men, perhaps the real issue is unspeakable and.hard to define because it is patriarchal authoritarianism that insists on the cultural policing of gender and sex interpretation.
Beautifully explained
Wow this was eye opening, I've never seen a sikh before and realising that they exist is something straight out of my nightmares, keep doing what you're doing and may God bless you! I pray I never dream of you again as I am looking to finally get some rest and respite from my waking dreams.
Mashallah. 👳🏾
i wish this video also acknowledged that asexual people exist as well. do what you feel and want
Honest question for any knowledgeable sikhs. So am I right to say that the God of sikhi condones the homosexual lifestyle? From the video that’s what I’m getting.
Also, he says “who’s to judge the lifestyle, it’s your own affair“. Is this scriptural ?
Its beautiful to listen i never heard like this though.wow
i feel hungry for an orangey apple now. lol
I like your outlook on the matter...where can i learn more about sikhism..???
best possible answer, thank you Mr. Singh
so heterosexual marriage is not a public statement of one's sexuality?
brilliant answer , how about oranges are both sweet and tart BUT they are both oranges , they are both loved and enjoyed by everyone and no one really cares , no one wants to wipe out tart oranges or disown sweet ones they take them as they find them
Read Ang 274, Shri Guru Granth Sahib, Ashtpadee, Shri Guru Arjun Dev Ji states:
Eindhree Jith Panch Dhokh Thae Rehat: Who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions.
With due respect, these are just meandering words. Why cant someone be a homosexual sikh? Yeah it is a non issue for YOU because YOU don't get chastised and judged in the name of religion. Sorry, this was a disappointing answer that totally skirted the issue.
Beautiful and Brilliant...

This is such a relief and very empowering for someone like me who is born in the Sikh religion and is gay and openly gay. Just hope that I can find a nice bf soul mate to settle down a husband Marriage
Hear hear, a wise man speaks ✌👍
On the other hand, wouldn't it be correct to say that there is no place within Sikhism for the MARRIAGE of two persons of the same sex?
That is my understanding; he skimmed over that very smoothly.
But can you be a sikh and be homosexual in a gay relationship?
yeah but control you lust tho. applies same for straight
Most humans are bi-sexual, Kinsey proved it. We are energy. We are not so much a gender.
Not impressive Guruka. This was a very simple question and needn't be complicated and begged a simple answer in lines of Gurmat.
The one in the white turbans gay
@gmustuk Because this was a non issue and hence needed no special mention. If love is the core subject of the matter then two men/women can still love each other without intercourse. Sex in Gurmat is 'just a tiny part' of a broader union between two opposite sexes and serves as a means to reproduce and not a source of pleasure. If it was otherwise I'm sure Gurus would have been pioneers in this as well and would have set an example exactly like they did with their shaheedis and other initiatives
As I Sikh I don’t agree with him because spirituality suppose to transcend our animal nature to a budha being.
That’s ok, but homosexuality does not make you like an animal. He is simply saying that it is natural that some of us will be homosexual. If we are transcending our animal mature, we will not eat, we will not sleep, we will do naught but pray.
