    Oh as a fun fact: Krita is part of a Linux free software foundation call KDE, they have awesome software like Kdenlive and Kdeconnect (among many, many others, Elisa etc)
    This is because they have a desktop in Linux call Plasma so that's why they have so many apps.
    The thing with Krita is that it was meant to be a GIMP alternative to Plasma, because GIMP is technically from another Linux project call GNOME, and they have their apps and desktop (They don't export as many to Windows as the KDE guys).
    In the end, Krita became more focus on digital art while GIMP is more for photo manipulation.

    I absolutely love krita, the only things i would say it needs is a better brush configuration system, a clipping layer instead of having to make a group every time, and the ability to transfer abr brushes.

      Yea I was suprised to learn I had to use groups to clip stuff, I couldn't figure out why it didn't work

    • @JerryLecor
      @JerryLecor 2 місяці тому +1

      @@bungeepete7393 lol its actually terrible. That should of only been an option if you wanted to clip a layer for a group. It gets extremely confusing when you want mutlple clips for 1 layer. A group for each clip makes no sense and slows down the workflow. At least there's still the alpha selection mask method.

    My main brushes are the TealfulEyes and David Revoy ones, sometimes with Ramon Miranda pencil ones and Rakurri.
    Now, the ones you are using look amazing, gotta add them to the collection :^)

    Thanks! This is great! I've heard about Krita but never actually tried it, and because of your video, I have just signed up in the Krita Artists forum. I personally gravitate towards a "painterly" feel in my own work, and the way you used it in this video really reminded of Painter back in the day. (I'm more acquainted with Painter than with Rebelle! But I'm getting a sense that they're similar!)

    Great video! I have been using Krita for a while as my main digital painting software, memileo brushes are a game changer in my opinion! I feel like Krita is as deep as you want it to be, especially if you are into tweaking stuff and creating your own brushes. Fantastic paintings too, love these! I'm looking forward to the sketching video, Ramon Miranda's sketch pencils are great for that sort of a thing alongside default pencil brushes.

    Hey Wes,I'm just starting digital art and I chose Krita. I made some amazing stuff in there but only with the very very basic, like one layer and one or 2 brushes and smoothing..going slowly because I used to paint on canvas and paper so I'm basically using the program as I use the real stuff..do you have any Krita tutorials appart from the book?

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you so much for reaching out! So I only have like three or four Krita videos on the channel so far, but I expect it to be more soon! You may also get a kick out of my "Gauntlet Method" video, as it's made specifically for artists like yourself, going from physical/traditional media to the digital realm! One layer, no undo button, it's a fun one! ua-cam.com/video/RhfwOvZe-Kg/v-deo.html

      I've heard quite a few people mention Verve, but I sadly don't have experience with it. Maybe I can take a look at it soon-ish!

    Can we make a pattern and put it in a swatch to use it to fill a shape or a selection?

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey there! You should be able to make a list of "predefined patterns" that you can use as a form of swatch! Then, you can use the fill tool (Edit > Fill with Pattern) and fill whatever type of selection you'd like! Here's more about the Patterns and making your own library of them: docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/resource_management/resource_patterns.html

    At this point I am pretty sure that there isn't anything that Krita can't do that paid programs can.

      While I like Krita I have to disagree with that. The main thing it can't do is watercolor simulation. Rebelle does that the best. The other thing is a canvas texture that your paint interacts with. Also real pigment mixing: mix blue and yellow to get green. I think only ArtRage and Rebelle (and Painter I guess) can do those things. But yeah, with the memileo brushes, you can get some nice simulation of the traditional look in Krita, but you can't make your own impasto brushes. ArtRage and Rebelle will allow you to customize and make your own brushes, and choose the level of impasto, and use settings like 'loading', 'oiliness' and 'pressure' with sliders that you can adjust on the fly. The thing I don't like about Krita (and CSP) is that I have to make a new brush every time I want any variation. Like if you create a great brush, you have to make it again if you want it to blend. With a program that does real paint simulations, you can get a lot of variation with sliders on the same brush.

      Hey there! So here's a link to the full thread. All of the "bundles" can be downloaded and installed into Krita: krita-artists.org/t/rotating-light-brushtips-wip/64930

  • @davebrimson
    @davebrimson 3 місяці тому +1

    Hi there, question, I followed the link and imported the file but I only got "Knife smooth and smooth Knife B loaded", is there a different link or am I doing something wrong, I am very new to Krita so that's entirely Possible!

    • @ArtOfWesGardner
      @ArtOfWesGardner  3 місяці тому

      Hey there! So the thread itself has quite a few "bundle" versions of the file, and I think I mistakenly linked to an "update" that only had the two knives in them. Here's a link to a more full bundle (the version 4 set I believe): krita-artists.org/t/rotating-light-brushtips-wip/64930/72 I think there's a variety of bundles linked in the thread, as it was going through refinements and changes quite often when it first launched. Hope this helps!
