  • It's time try and explain as much as I can about one of the most confusing anime's I have ever had the pleasure to watch. I love this show and had a hell of a time picking it apart to come to a understanding of it and I hope you enjoy this video analysis of Serial Experiments Lain.

    9:14 this is so true, I ve been recently thinking about this non stop and it kinda started to scare me.
    Like if I were to wake up tomorrow in a new timeline, I would never think about existence of another one since the "new" timeline I am living in is the true one since my memories would probably be aligned to it.
    Maybe I ll wake up tomorrow and look at my pc and be like "oh timeline didn't change, my pc is still here, my comment is still on this video" but in a way, how can I be sure?

    As a child of the eighties and nineties, this series resonated with me so much when I first watched it. I remember feeling at the time that my memories were being assimilated by The Cloud and that hard facts and all that I had learned up until those days when I first watched this were being slowly consigned to the Internet. I like this anime because it mirrors my own descent into the world of computers, religion, and philosophy. A place where the edges blur and it takes a subtle stab at where the average person can no longer tell the difference. Superb series.

      your mind exist along with your imagination because you can perceive it. While I may not be able to physically see it, it's still real, you can still describe to me what it's like, and I can gain a grasp of it even if it's not physically in front of me. The line between reality is very ambiguous, but the way I see it existence has various forms. I don't know how I described it in this video to be honest, I made it 2 years ago now lol.

    There is just One God worthy of worship, He is Allah Almighty, Creator of worlds to Whom belongs everything, and yes He is Omnipotent, All-knowing, All-powerful and much more. You have to take knowledge of Him from His Words not from other sources, if you want Truth about God and not falsehood.
    May Allah Almighty guide and protect you!

    I, too, struggled to understand Serial Experiments Lain until I came across an explanation that, for the most part, plugged up all of the holes. That is, Lain is either a deity or an AI who understands the nature of the physical world. In either case, she wanted to experience life as a human. For this experience, Lain had to block all her memories of being a deity or AI.

It was just as fun seeing their reactions as the show. We must have sat there talking about it trying to figure it out for hours. Completely sober BTW. 😂

    It really does address the societal issues that are relevant today and will be increasingly as we spend more of our time on the internet and even digitalize our human connections. Although the plot was convoluted and hard to follow, I like how it was only secondary to the emotions and themes that drive it, compacting so many existential questions and exploring them through her journey. What is reality? Who am I? How many am I? Love?! Collective unconsciousness?! God?!?!

    The story goes that Lain is a program given a physical body by a cult--The Knights--that wants to merge the physical and virtual realm to give people immortality after death. She had to be given a physical body to achieve this--to be on both planes. Her father works for the company that the cult is a subsidiary of and was in charge of taking care of Lain as a proxy. Because of her nature as a program--and I guess also as a teenage girl, she was naturally drawn to the wired. And because of the fact that she is a program, the more she delves into the wired, the more the nature of her as a program starts to distort reality. When she entered the wired, there are multiple versions of her because she is omnipresent within the wired. She is the goddess of the wired. And the more she enters it, the more the goals of the cult comes closer but Lain herself sees the backlash of such. The hallucinations of those around her, the crossings of reality and the wired. Even before she even enters the wired, those distortions she sees--like the black pixelations with the bloodpools--she later comes to realize is because of her own existence. Because she was in proximity, it probably led to her classmate's death, her false sister's hallucinations, the shooter at Cyberia unaliving himself. Things from the wired and her own mind were manifesting in the real world. After her confrontation with Eiri--the leader of the Knights and temporary standing God of the wired--that manifested in the real world that traumatized her friend Alice, she decides to delete herself from people's memories with her powers as a goddess realized. She knows that if she just deletes herself from others' memories, she can control the harm that she presents to the world and she chooses to use her powers that she tapped into to safeguard people instead of becoming what she was intended for.

    The answer to this anime is simple. The anime answers this itself. Solipsism is the main idea and it’s trying to justify the idea by refuting “god”. The whole show is a God complex. It touches on multiple different forms of beliefs about existence, but it settled on the idea that one only exists within itself and nothing else is real. That’s why the last episode of lain is so chill, because she excepted that she’s the only reality. Hence, making her god.

  • @nerdcorner2680
    @nerdcorner2680 7 місяців тому +2

    I think as a surrealist show you can away pretty much anything you want from Lain. With the aliens, everyone being in the Wired, and the shot of their city near the end being small and surrounded by darkness could mean that all of this is just a computer program/simulation. There was also that drug introduced near the begining that makes your sense of time move much slower so all of this could be Lain on the drug, which is why towards the start of the show she is very spaced out and slow to learning and acts “different” when everyone else sees her. All these theories are correct because as you said the show never tells you exactly what is correct

    The whole collective consciousness narrative made me think of the noosphere philosophy in Metro 2033 and STALKER. An anime, following the Metro 2033 book, would work out really well, if done right

    Posting before watching the entire video:
    My first experience with Serial Experiments Lain was while high out of my mind, and it was a trip and a half. The animation and weird SFX on it, mixed up with my already somewhat distorted view of reality in that state made the perfect concoction for my brain.

    Technically God did create many ‘gods’ .. He created everything. So He is all powerful.. to create another as powerful as Himself, I’m sure is possible too. But there is no point. He is already everywhere and everything. God is not one thing in one place, so to make another would mean taking Himself out of a place to put Himself back in it. Possible but pointless, it’s already done.
