I played this album down to the grooves in 1979. I was 17 then. All the cuts on the album play like chapters in a fairy tale, from the first cut of "Once upon a time" to "Faster and Faster to Nowhere," to "Rumor Has It" to "I Love You," to the next one that follows, "Happily Ever After." One of Ms. Summer's great achievements. And a beautiful album cover photo. RIP to a performer of true magic.
Hello Donna Summer I thought I write this letter to you letting you know that I was thinking of you I know you've gone and passed on but believe me your spirit lives on you're in so many people's hearts I just wanted to say I love you
No one could touch her then and not even now because she pioneered Modern Music with its powerful Bass, Synthesizers and Moog…..and then the voice! The vocals are unmatched.
Certainly not bet midler nor Linda Ronstadt or pat benatar they were all over rated but nobody was accepting a black woman back when they were cool as hell.
I'm from Mexico from Small-town. I remember the first time that I hear song of Donna Summers I did fall in love with her angelical voice. I feel love.... Since till this moment she will be my number one singer ever.
Francisco, I so Love you for that because I’m the same about Donna Summer and I also describe her voice as ‘Angelic’. The first time I heard her music from the Album called ‘A Love Trilogy’ (1976) and I said to myself “who is this Angel”?? Because there was no sound or voice like hers at all 🙏🏾👍🏾❤️
To a Brooklynite like yourself, I miss the old days also. I thank UA-cam for giving us old schoolers music like this to hit up every now and then. I was saddened when I heard Donna died...lung cancer. She's gone, but didn't she leave us with memories of when us old schoolers had fun? As great as Donna was, it comes down to us to keep her alive with our memories of the times when we could go to clubs and didn't have to worry about the stuff this generation have to go through.
@Jiltedin2007I completely agree with you 1000000%. I just listened to 'With Your Love' 12'' Version and I've had a good cry. Her voice reaches the Core of your Spirit!! The Only Female vocals that was gifted the ability to do that. Her voice sounds like she's crying out to your Soul and it makes you sometimes sit to admire and take it all in instead of Dance to it...WHAT A VOICE!!!! 💥💫🙏🏽✨💎❤👑
As a black girl growing up in the time of disco, I saw her more than a Disco singer. She had a great voice, was versatile, the whole package. And she was the first black female sex symbol in modern music history. You go girl!!!!! Love you always, your greatest fan forever!!!!!
There will NEVER be another Donna Summers, she was one of a kind and one of the great female singers of my generation, R.I.P. Donna, your still the Queen of Disco and you ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!
I miss her too, friend. This is my favorite song of hers. RIP, Donna...your music will transcend the crap they make today. Donna is a legend...and youre right; she had the voice of an angel...now she is one.
I was 16 yrs. old at my 1st gay club in NYC. The Gallery DJ Nikki Siano. After consuming acid unknowingly I hear "Tell you what I heard " A Capella in a low whisper...I lost my mind, and I am still looking for it. 40+ years later, I can't let go of the music
It was just those rock folks who weren't making as much money as Donna Summer and the Bee Gees. As I remember, soul and funk transitioned into "disco", but disco still exists, it is just known by different terms since then-- dance music and now EDM. One of the arguments about disco was that they were studio singers, made to sound amazing; but the truth is a lot of the female singers of that era were born in the churches, like Donna. Also, they complained about drum machines... one of the things I loved about Donna's music, in addition to the mix of string and wind instruments with synthesizers, was that Donna's records had real people playing all of the musical instruments including the DRUMS (Bad Girls, great example). Only the synth was synthesized. lol I hated the song Holiday by Madonna because it was so bubble gum and because it was DISCO, and there had been such a big deal about "disco sucks" and a girl moderately talented with a mediocre voice that sounded and was sped-up in the recording comes along and that crap was a hit:? It made no sense.
@@SWSimpson I totally agree about the Crap Madonna ‘everything’! The thing with Madonna is that she had to steal everyone’s image particularly Marilyn Monroe’s in order to sell herself and then moved from image to image all copied from Hollywood legendary stars of the 40s & 50s. So where is Madonna’s own template. Where is her identity? And yes very mediocre vocals
Just left the plains of Kansas, headed west to California...1972...oh man, Toto we ain't in Kansas anymore! Young, strong, single, a dancin' fool, warm nights, warm bites, Thank God I lived through all that...but what great memories!!!
The beauty of You Tube is allowing music from ALL generations to be listened to by succeeding generations. I was 26 when this album came out. Listening to it takes me back to an era, long since gone, of the rise of gay culture and the music that accompanied it. Donna Summer was right at the center of it, and I exult that she existed to make such great music to dance to. Who knew she would become an artist that the world would remember, not just the gay or disco community. And she seemed to be a kind and loving human being, and that counts even more.
Teenage to 60s still listening still enjoying her cassette was one my first cassette as teenager and still has the cassette great singer songs leaving impact on one’s life
I own the original album and I always thought it was one of her best pieces of work. If you grew up in that generation this album was a big change for her and actually one of her best I think.
ONCE UPON A TIME... Best album of the disco era (also my favourite Donna's album), best female singer of that period, with a powerful and unique voice, an incredibly sexy woman with great personality and humanity and so on... 👏👏👏 A true legend. I will love her and listen to her music for the rest of my life! ❤❤💚💚 Stefano, Milano, Italy 🙌
I was born in '81 and grew up as a teen in a small Arizona town during the "grunge" & "Gangsta-Rap" 90's era of popular music (which I enjoyed as well), but I was always drawn to Dance music of the 70's I often joke that in my previous life I must have died on the dancefloor. lol. I was alway on my own when it came to having this particular taste in music, so its soooo cool to see comments from people that actually lived this era!! I wish I could sit and listen to your stories!!

You would need to have lived through this period I was 17 years old going to clubs in the Glasgow area what a fantastic time it was thanks Donna and RIP
Today, Rumor Has It is my favorite song of hers. It could be a different one tomorrow. So many great songs to choose from and so underrated. She'll always be the best.
She was actually not underrated at all. The music industry honoured her and knew/know her worth and place in history. That, she was the fore-runner of Modern Music with its heavy Bass, Moog etc. She is the first female to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame ahead of Tina Turner. Donna herself sought critical acclaim over commercial viability and she got it. Every Album was critically acclaimed for its brilliant artistry and delivery. Her contemporaries like Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor Chaka Khan the Pointer Sisters etc know her magnitude before Donna was a ‘Game-changer’ and well ahead of her time

Donna was so much more than any Drag Queen aspired to be, as she was a "real" woman, and Donna embodied the ero's and new freedom of a changing era. In my opinion, Ms. Summer just 'pee's' all over the dance and disco diva's that followed her. Donna is the Queen of Disco/Dance Music!
Today May 17,2022 is the 10th anniversary of Donna Summer's passing. Her music will live on forever. Her (Iconic Vocals) rules our ears. May she continue to Rest In Power. 🙏 ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘

Donna Summer....the True Queen of Disco. She put out some sexy, great dance tunes. I was really sad to hear when she passed. I will always love Donna Summer and her magical music. R.I.P. Donna Summer.
It is not underrated at all. The Music industry acknowledges her and they are aware of her place in history as the front-runner of Modern Music with its Heavy Bass and that voice. She’s the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ahead of even Tina Turner. All these younger artistes honour her because they are knowledgeable and aware of the magnitude of Donna’s Music.
@@dietpepsivanilla3095 My Sincere Apologies 🙏🏾❤️. In 1977 when she released the above ‘Cinderella Concept’ Album (soon after The ‘I Remember Yesterday’ album), the vision was to stage a Mini Opera with the Cinderella Story, but other projects, Tours, Live Recordings etc all cropped up so the production was was shelved. However the Album itself was hugely successful. Oh God we couldn’t get enough of it because the Sound & the Voice was so unique; unheard of. Her huge following was compared to reviving Marilyn Monroe and transporting her into a New, unique and Pioneering wave of Sound. The power and uniqueness of the Sound was just Heavenly. Decades ahead of her time. It still sounds unique today 💫💎💎💎👑👑👑
Voz, interpretación, matices, potencia, inconfundible voz. No te has ido de nuestros corazones, siempre estarás presente durante muchas generaciones. No eres la única pero sí la mejor!! Gracias x tu talento. T EXTRAÑOS.
More than that, she’s the front-runner of Modern Music with its Heavy Bass and Moog and Synthesizers so her place in history is unique indeed. The first female to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ahead of Tina Turner even. All the music industry is aware of Donna’s place in Music History
I'm at a loss for words sometimes with this most beautiful woman with the most beautiful voice I saw her from beginning to end and my heart and I miss you dearly thank you for one amazing hit after another , NO ONE compares to Donna
I was always kinda shy to dance but when I went to discos and this song came on, I always got brave enough to ask a girl to dance. For some reason I could always get into this song.
R.I.P.: Donna Summer, The Queen Of Disco! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER GREAT SINGER LIKE DONNA SUMMER! HER VOICE COULD MAKE GROWN MEN CRY! THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL!
enoy all the postings as it gives me a better look into the glorious music of the magnificent Donna Summer (R.I.P.). wasn't around in the 70's but think I got lost in some type of time-warp cause I sooo like disco music beyond what's humanly possible. especially MIss Donna. heard the cd Once Upon A Time back in 2004 and man! what a great listen. this combo of Rumor Has It/I Love You are my two favorites. thanks so much for posting!
My Baby girl DONNA SUMMER,,,DIED TOO YOUNG..THANK GOD WE HAVE HER BEST,,,BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT SHE COULD OF DONE ,,MORE ??? LOVE YOU SISTER.. SLEEP WELL YOU DID RIGHT BY US..
People can say what they want about Ms Donna. I came out during this time and will remember it was so special! I sometimes wish I could go back and do it all over again. Dancing and twirling underneath the mirror ball with my boy friend was pure magic. RIP Donna.
Fantastic. I'm 34 and bi- I love those queens that survived that-80's-plague. But the ones didn't we'll get to meet when the ultimate DJ switches (God) the song for each soul one by one from 'The Dancefloor of Life' to the ultimate mix record, 'Livin' Among The Clouds' 🤓😎😇👯🚶🏃💃🕺👫👬👭💏👨❤️💋👨👩❤️💋👩💑👨❤️👨👩❤️👩👪👨👩👧👨👩👧👦👨👩👦👦👨👩👧👧👨👨👦👨👨👧👨👨👧👧👩👩👦👩👩👧👨👦👦👨👦👩👧👦👩👧👩👦👦👨👧👧👨👧👨👧👩👧👧🖖
Hey Donna keeps me a place in heaven. I want to be there when you'll sing and your powerful voice will thrill everyone...God bless you De Montréal, Québec
TO DONNA WITH MY LOVE Donna Summer is and always will be the best of the singers of all time. I get more and more "in love" with the various interpretations of Mrs. Donna Summer. Her beautiful voice can do different perfomances. And today our dear Donna is in Heaven with Our Good God ... but she continues "always alive" in the "wonderful versions that DJ's provide us with continuously." Donna has performed very difficult songs such as "CON TE PARTIRÓ" by the great master "Andrea Bocelli", passing the masterful tribute to "Edith Piaf" in the song "LA VIE EN ROSE" and managed to "unite" her voice with one of the most acclaimed singers "of all times Mrs. Barbra Streisand" ... and also another beautiful duet with the equally "admirable" Liza Minelli. I can not get enough of listening and clapping to our standing Musa: "Donna Summer". GOD BLESS YOU DONNA GOD BLESS US Forever. Thanks Friends and much hugs of Brazil.
This is a fantastic combo song. Rumor Has It is a great down and dirty song. Segueing into one of the most romantic disco songs sending any romantic person into the stratosphere. Miss Donna will forever be in our hearts for singing so many signature songs of the late 70’s hot disco era.
At 6:17 she holds out "She said I love you" for 10 seconds. The way she holds out the sound "you" mesmerizes me. There are certain tonal qualities in her voice that hit me in the center of my sternum and takes my breath away, like when you reach that big drop on a rollercoaster-- breathless. Certain things she does with her voice (what one might call vocal gymnastics, but Donna kept down to just the right amount - too much is obnoxious. The Song Carry On has it (You've wandered down this road so "LONG" as does Mimi Song- "Mimi, you're mine. WHOA, Mimi You're mine WHOA") - Breathless! She is always in my heart and part of my soul. I will love her eternally. But, more than her voice, she was truly a spiritual person full of love, and would never say anything unkind about anyone. She practiced what she preached - unconditional love, and she never engaged in or entertained gossip. She would set aside her own pain and heartache to be there for someone who needed her. To me, she was a Mom, a Big Sister, and my Fairy Godmother.
@SWSimpson! Hi👋🏽! I was just writing to one of the guys who was also posting about Donna's Greatness that I just listened to 'With Your Love' 12'' Version and I've had a good cry. Her voice reaches the Core of your Spirit!! The Only Female vocals that was gifted the ability to do that. Her voice sounds like she's crying out to your Soul and it makes you sometimes just sit to admire and take it all in instead of Dance to it...WHAT A VOICE!!!! When I weep to Donna's music, it is involuntary, and I feel that it is NOT an ordinary physiological weeping but rather the core of my Spirit; (the one that connects me to God) doing the weeping. Her Voice cries to my Spirit all the time. What a Being she was and is. I'm very fortunate that I met her twice in this lifetime. Take great care SWSimpson and stay safe ❤🙏🏽
In the background, listen to the musicians doing the scales, the string parts, all of it. This was not cheap to make. Donna got the best people and songs because, literally, in the scene no one else could compare...
@@tonynegron1927 Do you know that the recording of the track ‘State of Indepence’ from the 1982 Album entitled simply ‘Donna Summer’ is regarded as the greatest single recording in history because she a complete Choir as background consisting of Lionel Ritchie, Michael Jackson, James Ingram, and lots of other huge Stars. James Ingram said that Donna’s voice is the best he knows because of its range; she could sing anything and sound like anyone from Rod Steward to Tina Turner (completely disguised where other stars have that one tone regardless of the beauty of their voice)
The man of my dreams just told me he loved me last night for the first time. This makes the dreams of a 12 year old girl who is now 47 come true. Donna Summer was there for me then when the dream originated and here for me now when the dream has finally, after 35 years...finally come true....
uh, no, it started in 1975 with both Donna's "Love to Love You Baby" and Diana Ross's "Love Hangover"...I was dancing in the clubs to it back then. Donna did it best. She will be greatly missed-
I was 10 in 1977 and I just moved from P.R to the Bronx and a neighbor always put that and I just got hooked with disco....now I am 58 and still put this album anywhere I go now in P.R and people just go wild...like lend me that CD or where did I get it.... people just start boogiein......Donna rocks...
REMEMBERING Donna Summer today 2 years after she left us, still sounds as fantastic as the first time I heard it Immortal music that will live on forever. Still miss ya being around on this wonderful planet lovely lady.
I was out in a remote part of Alaska when this album came out. I sure wish I could have danced to a few tunes on the dance floor from this album !! I love the Cinderella theme !!
never too late! I wasn't even born yet when this came out, but I have been dancing on my own since I found this album in my mom's record collection at 13 in 1994.
Awesome song and the way she's dressed for this song in the 1978 video is incredible she looks so freaking cool . all the Glam of the 1980s was copying what Donna Summer was doing during the mid and late 1970s.
The first dance club I ever went to was named Rumor has it! I remember yesterday, I miss you everyday. I'm grateful for all the amazing music you left us with! Thank you..

I miss Donna,
me too.
I do too so very much
She was the best Disco Queen we always remember her and she will live in our hearts forever. We Love You Donna Summer may your soul R.I.P Sept.17 2016
It was 2012
Let's say Happy Birthday to Donna Summer Everyone!!
I miss her still, but we will forever have her great music like this underrated tune. One of my favs.
@@kojoharrison630I didn't say Donna was underrated, but I did say this tune.
@@dietpepsivanilla3095 By the way I adore your pseudonym ‘Diet Pepsi Vanila’; all things I love ❤️
@@kojoharrison630 thank you very much! I still wish they made it!
Voz, interpretación, matices, potencia, inconfundible voz. No te has ido de nuestros corazones, siempre estarás presente durante muchas generaciones. No eres la única pero sí la mejor!! Gracias x tu talento. T EXTRAÑOS.
Every generation from every era & every corner of the Earth experiences NOSTALGIA.
This & she is so representative of ours!
The best Disco Queen
I'm at a loss for words sometimes with this most beautiful woman with the most beautiful voice I saw her from beginning to end and my heart and I miss you dearly thank you for one amazing hit after another , NO ONE compares to Donna
Truly the best ever.
Lost my mother 21 years ago in two weeks. I’d dance around the house to Donna Summer. My mother would sing along. Best memories.
@@kevincollins7300 so sorry for your loss i understand i have those same memories and remember the the fun they had to the music

GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN! R.I.P! QUEEN OF DISCO! YOUR MEMORY LIVES ON!
I was always kinda shy to dance but when I went to discos and this song came on, I always got brave enough to ask a girl to dance. For some reason I could always get into this song.
Rocketjay12 Imagine if you asked the guy you really wanted to dance with.
Donna Summeer, wherever you are, God Bless You!!
R.I.P.: Donna Summer, The Queen Of Disco!
THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER GREAT SINGER LIKE DONNA SUMMER! HER VOICE COULD MAKE GROWN MEN CRY! THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL!
Beautifully said.

Thank you.
enoy all the postings as it gives me a better look into the glorious music of the magnificent Donna Summer (R.I.P.). wasn't around in the 70's but think I got lost in some type of time-warp cause I sooo like disco music beyond what's humanly possible. especially MIss Donna. heard the cd Once Upon A Time back in 2004 and man! what a great listen. this combo of Rumor Has It/I Love You are my two favorites. thanks so much for posting!
Go Donna! I remember loving this song so much back in the day. I love you too!
social media has downgraded what radio stations meant back in the day people today have no idea how awesome music on the radio was
My Baby girl DONNA SUMMER,,,DIED TOO YOUNG..THANK GOD WE HAVE HER BEST,,,BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT SHE COULD OF DONE ,,MORE ??? LOVE YOU SISTER.. SLEEP WELL YOU DID RIGHT BY US..
December 31st 2019 happy birthday Donna Summer may she rest in peace 💋👁️👁️💋🌟🌟🌟
People can say what they want about Ms Donna. I came out during this time and will remember it was so special! I sometimes wish I could go back and do it all over again. Dancing and twirling underneath the mirror ball with my boy friend was pure magic. RIP Donna.
Amen, Bro'....I was out as a boy...and 'blossomed' under the Mirror Ball..'Back-in-Time,Lord-in-a-Flash.'

She was the best. Definitely the QUEEN of disco. Her music will live forever.
This was one of my favorite albums (and I do mean ALBUMS) there were so many danceable tracks.
TO DONNA WITH MY LOVE
Donna Summer is and always will be the best of the singers of all time.
I heard a rumor...this is the best disco song! 👍 💃
Great Song
Donna is QUEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was a wonderful singer. She inspired our generation and brought happiness into our lives through her songs. RIP Donna Summer.
Well said Walter!
👍 Yes. Listen to the excellent background singers too.
@@tonynegron1927 3 of Her sisters were her background singers
She will be greatly missed-
E'incredibile come dopo tanti anni il prodotto migliore per ballare e'ancora il suo. Donna sammer for ever
Donna will always be THE QUEEN!!!

Such a beautiful voice and missed very much. Thank you for the beautiful music Donna Summer
Good music makes me think of the good old days.
this song deserves an extended version , such a masterpiece !
I was out in a remote part of Alaska when this album came out. I sure wish I could have danced
to a few tunes on the dance floor from this album !!
May your god keep you always Donna. YOu gave the world great music and joy with your beautiful voice, in spite of all, I LOVE Your memory
!
The first dance club I ever went to was named Rumor has it! I remember yesterday, I miss you everyday. I'm grateful for all the amazing music you left us with!
