See the comment by vova47 “Meaningless??” Here is Narcissism at its best, and also utter abject bull excrement. Apart from the historical importance of this solo-Powell had moved to France and experienced moments where he recaptured the ferocious demonic brilliance of past years-there is enough classic bebop language documented here to keep a serious student busy for a very very long time. Moreover, and apart from the fact that these are brilliant lines over rhythm changes, the stand-alone abject beauty of linear bebop constructions shines through in his right hand. One could nearly build an entire style on a single note instrument from Powell’s right hand here. Of but wait, I forgot this is just meaningless gibberish...go get an ear.
I don't know if I'm any good, but I'm certainly serious--and Bud's lines take on another dimension in this recording. I really even shouldn't be here on this video, but I saw this comment and had to make a response. Bud Powell and Barry Harris! May they live forever.
jpcannavo - I said one handed transcription of great Bud Powell solo is meaningless NOT his solo. Transcription is notating accurately what's being played not picking out just what you are able to hear. While using the elements of solo is one's personal affair publishing it for the use of others demands accuracy. Nothing whatsoever to do with Bos taurus and his droppings. Cheers!

@@vova47 you are approaching this from an instrument specific (piano) standpoint whereas everyone who understands and appreciates bebop approaches this from a purely MUSICAL standpoint. These lines can be played on any instrument, including the human voice. That's the point. Listen more
Don't worry about it, vova always finds a way to take a small valid point that he has and be the biggest dickhead on the planet about it, leaving him smart and with no friends. He is the pompous shithead of youtube jazz.

Can't forget Bud!
Brilliant piano playing - shame about the awful prehistoric recording quality. What a shame Bud Powell aint around today exploiting the brilliant recording technology we now have - I'd love to hear him on Steinway piano beautifully recorded...

Kurt rosenwinkel while his music is funny and quirky and kinda neat sometimes doesn't hold a candle to actual beboppers
I hope you discover one day that piano playing is two-handed affair, especially when played by giants like Bud Powell. Without the left hand this "transcription" is meaningless.
if you take your time to transcribe it, as I`m doing, you will realize that, most of time, Bud is doing nothing on left hand and many chords are played on the downbeat of the measure, I mean, almost all the time. On the 1st and 2ndchorus, there are just two moments were something is playing on left hand that interacts with the solo.
By the way, I didn`t read all this transcription and I can`t as I`m transcribing it by myself, but the 4th note on 1st bar doesn't exist.

@@adolfomendonca Ha Ha!!! The left hand is the conductor of the orchestra. So yeah, let's just forget about the conductor. This is like saying, I'm going to play a Bach Invention, but the left hand is not that important, so I won't play it.
