  • Our latest acquisition takes the place of the TR4. The next few months will be spent tinkering and sorting out minor issues during the weekends. Hopefully a European road trip this summer.

    So nice to see this Cadillac preserved and the fact that you will continue to drive the vehicle so that people can see this rolling art form.

    Mom's cousin drove out from Texas to her family in California in her 60 black Cadillac sedan DeVille, it was a 6 window Sedan like this one, this was about 1964, a very nice car

      Thanks. That must’ve been a great road trip. We’re hoping to do France, Spain and Portugal and the back to the UK this summer if I can go through the car in time.

    ..... My Dad had a '60 Coup De Ville from about '63 to about '70 ... I was proud to have drove it many times and many miles throughout that time ... It was very quiet, very smooth, and I could actually watch (in a slow motion fashion) the gas gage drop slowly as I drove ... 390 cubic inch with a four barrel carburetor, a lot of vehicle weight, and my 'lead-foot' added to the dropping fuel gage syndrome ...! Sure miss the good out days ...! Best regards .....

      Well 50 years on she’s still thirsty! UK fuel prices would make your eyes water too…. We are planning 3000 mile European road trip this summer if I can get her ready in time.

    My father had a black ‘60 and after a late night at the country club drove it home and nailed one corner of the garage upon entering. The Caddy only had a slight dent, but the corner of the garage got shoved four inches off its foundation.

    Thank you for sharing. The '60 model year was one of my favorites, and perhaps the simplest and sleekest. Yours appers to be original. What a rare treasure. Keep and enjoy it.

      Thanks Frank, she's mainly factory stock with 62000 miles. In daily use (I don't own a modern) she will get paint and some bodywork in a couple of years. Till then I'll be going through the oily bits and putting a lot of miles on her

    Those have to be the most elegant fins ever put on a car.

    • @oldcarsnstuff
      @oldcarsnstuff  2 роки тому +3

      I agree, they're just delightful. I often get envious of the '59, but when I look at my 60's rear end it all goes away

    • @kirbywaite1586
      @kirbywaite1586 2 роки тому +3

      @@oldcarsnstuff I don't care too much for the '59 myself but they are certainly spectacular! . 1960 was the first year for the fin to contain a slender lamp within the perimeter of the fin itself rather than being added on. The 1957 model introduced the rocket shaped lamps which were a break with Cadillac styling cues going all the way back to 1948. I always thought the 1957 rear treatment on the standard Cadillacs was a disaster. I 've never understood what possessed them to make that odd change and to break the design continuity. It's a one off. I don't think 1957 Cadillacs are as in demand as 54,55,and 56s but I could be wrong. However, the 1958 Eldorado Brougham did predict the 1960 fin/ slender tailight quite accurately and it once again looked more "Cadillac".

    • @oldcarsnstuff
      @oldcarsnstuff  2 роки тому +2

      @@kirbywaite1586 Agreed, I have to say I’ve personally never been a fan of the ‘57 and I’ve always thought the Eldorado Brougham’s fin seems like an add-on. The ‘59 was a rather exaggerated design and I believe the folklore is that in period it was considered vulgar by Americans and sales suffered because of it. This may well be just folklore though. I’ve not been interested enough to compare sales figuerense year on year or against the competition. But I can say that I can sit and look at those fins on my ‘60 for hours at a time….

    • @kirbywaite1586
      @kirbywaite1586 2 роки тому +2

      @@oldcarsnstuff Obviously you know a lot about Cadillacs. What is really interesting are the 1959 and 1960 Eldorado Brougham models. They were built in Italy and they are very rare. I've only seen pictures. The '59 looks almost exactly like the standard 1960 Cadillac. But with the 1961 style 8 window "greenhouse" and the 1960 has the double fins that appeared on the 1961 Cafillac! They're amazing.

    It has 10 windows.

    • @montymatilda
      @montymatilda 2 роки тому +5

      Of course it does, but in the car community it is named after the 6 windows, on each side not including the vent windows that were considered part of the front door windows, 2 more windows than a standard 4 door car. It was unusual for that feature. Cadillac was not the only manufacturer how made this design and called it the same.

  • @bigblockjalopy

    Beautiful period color, wheels and stance. Love it. Use to prefer the 59, but actually the 60 is the nicer design, imo. 4 door hardtops are something special, pure 50s.
