For root noobs like myself that found this by web search: The steps in this video alone did not manage to hide root status from apps. I also had to enable the "hide the Magisk app" option and give it a random name. After doing this the apps added to the deny list are now running without complaining about root. Maybe obvious for most, but not for a root noob like myself.
