This is my favorite Lego video game... no questions asked. I just think that the replay ability is VERY high. I still haven't fully finished that game yet! If a sequel came out for the Switch, sign me up!
I think this is a really good game. One thing I think would make it better would be the ability to change the surroundings from day to night - imagine Lego City at night, all lit up - I think it would look great.
I'm glad this game is going to get the recognition it deserves with the remaster. I'm picking it up again on the switch and pretty syked for the co-op and just playing it again. Still one of my favorite games on the Wii U and ever
I got the game when it came out, 100% completed it, and I'm still replaying it today. Game was far better than he said it was and its my favorite Lego Game to date
There's also the possibility of a potential sequel where they could introduce a partner for Chase (which could also add to the story) and allow for offline/online co-op.
I love the fact that you understand this! I adore my WiiU, it's my pride and joy, and I don't mind a couple of mindless shooters (Goldeneye on Wii is one of my favorite games for example) but I also love all the other stuff such as this, Metroid, along with the many other rewarding experiences that Nintendo is so well known for.
". It won't get games unless some people buy the console though. " But people won't buy consoles if it doesn't have games which is what you've been seeing the last few months. When Nintendo drops games like a Mario, a Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash and other Nintendo game the sales will sky rocket. But as of now if you're a NINTENDO fan and you buy Nintendo systems for NINTENDO made games. There isn't really anything for you.
60fps was never a selling point of the WiiU, but they did promote HD rendering. Many, many devs would opt to run at 30fps if they could push more effects, just like how most ps360 games render at 720p or less for the same benefit.
You have some valid points, it is lacking games. It won't get games unless some people buy the console though. I don't regret my purchase. I'm getting the same enjoyment as I did with my Xbox in its first 6 months. Not a lot of consoles launch strong, and it's far too early for the "Wii U doom articles". The 3ds picked up sales when Super Mario 3d Land came around. there's no reason to believe the Wii U won't pick up once they release a 3d Mario game on it.
This was a really special game. Most Lego games put me to sleep and usually feel like a stale chore to play. This game was a delight from beginning to ESPECIALLY that insane finale. It was charming, hilarious, incredibly likeable, and just a joy to play and explore. It's not trying to be cinema or pack in as much brown as possible, it's what games used to be: pure, blissful fun. One of the best games I've played in a long time.
here in IGN the Genre matters alot, any FPS game starts from 7+/10 the popularity plays another role so a popular FPS gets 8+/10 The Platform plays the last role, if it's on XBox it goes up to 9+ on PS3 it's 7+ same goes for Wii and WiiU
They will, I never understood Sony fans saying Nintendo only remakes their games. How many HD collections does Sony have? Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly, Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, God of War (3), Infamous, KH, Ico, Killzone, etc. At least for the most recent Nintendo Zelda game, it's remastered, not just an HD port.
Nintendo Land, Zombi U, AC3, Trine 2, Little Inferno, Mass Effect 3, NBA 2k12/13(Not sure lol), Tank tank tank, CoD Black ops 2, New Super Mario Bros U, Sonic and Sega All star Racing, Batman Arkam asilum Armoured Edition, Just Dance 4... Search for a little more of info next time man. Here you have some to start! Sry if i forget( I probably do) some games, but these are the ones that i can remember. See ya!
NSMBU, Monster Hunter, Wind Waker remake coming soon, Nintendoland, and Lego City Undercover which has a lot of other Nintendo references in it. You don't have to have the big games like a 3d Mario, a Zelda, a Mario Kart, a SSB, a Kirby, or a Metroid game to enjoy Nintendo games. You can't write off smaller games just because they aren't system sellers. They probably thought NSMBU would be a system seller, but it hardly pushed the system. I'm a Nintendo fan and I'm excited for this game and MH3U
But that's like a tradition in Lego games. I had a Wii and I had every stinking Lego game for the Wii (except Harry Potter and LotR) and co-op made it better.

Knack, Killzone 4, Drive Club, Infamous 3? Funny how they've already shown more in house for their system that hasn't even launched yet then Nintendo has for the Wii U which has been out for FOUR MONTHS!
Okay, I just scrolled FAR back through the comments...and it's depressing. People are being WAY unfair. It's just a Lego game. Not like it's suppose to move millions of systems. Other games Nintendo will have later this year will do that. I also thought we learned not judge things so quickly. Plus, why are we talking about this? This comment section should just focus on the game. Please, let's get back on track and just discuss this game's pros and cons and forget about Wii U sales. Please? :/

The wii u is one of those gaming systems that you don't really understand until you get your hands on one. They are actually a ton of fun, and to the people who criticize it, don't bash it until you have actually sat down and played it. I bought one because i wanted something different. When games actually I don't know COME OUT. Last big name blockbuster Nintendo made for a console was 16 months ago. Zelda Skyward Sword. How you find that acceptable as a NINTENDO FAN. Is beyond me.
Good review! I usueally dislike Ign reviews but this one did the game justice. Except knocking off points because of the lack of multiplayer lol. It really described how the game works and plays and how its unique.
LOL yeah I bet you that's what all the people were wanting and asking for when they heard of a new Nintendo system. I bet they were hoping for games like Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Lego City and Monster Hunter as well. Not that any of those are bad games but those games aren't the games Nintendo has been known for nor have their fanbase been following them for the past 20+ years for. Nintendo needs to put THEIR games out too to which they have not.
they had skyward sword. Also, the first half of this year has been focused on 3DS because games for that system are ready. WiiU games are coming. I do not regret my purchase, and though I own a PS3 and 360 as well, I keep gravitating to my WiiU (just finished ninja gaiden 3). I am eager for this E3. The way you talk about games just makes you seem impatient. I understand, though I don't consider that a reason to doom a system so early on the life cycle. Just saying.
The lack of multiplayer really hurts me about this game. I personally only find 2 player the best part of lego games. Playing one alone gets boring to me and if not for that I'd buy a wii u just for this game. Plus I'm a character junky I love a bunch of character Options which is why lego Star Wars 3 was such a great game for me.
I am not being fanboyish and I never said PS2 was bad overall like you imply. I said its first year was rough and it's true. PS2 is easily the GOD of home consoles, boasting a glorious library of games. But its first year on the market was somewhat underwhelming. The DVD player was the main reason it sold well at first. It wasn't until games like Grand Theft Auto III were released that it really took off and blew everything away. Even IGN and GT know this.
10/10 People don’t realize how great this game was. Yes “LEGO Batman, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and marvel super heros we’re classics. But I’m not joking this game was and is now thee best Lego and top 10 best game. This isn’t just nostalgia cuz I replayed it 3 times (Wii U) when I was little and 2 more times with my little brother on switch.
It really is hilarious. They claim to be these huge Nintendo fans but they've been fine with nothing big Nintendo on consoles for the last 16 months. I'm sorry but being a Nintendo fan that isn't satisfactory to me. As a Nintendo fan I want Nintendo games.
What's wrong with enjoying a game like this? I swear some people are very insecure of themselves. What is wrong with enjoying a game that as a cool looking art style? Or a colorful game? If you think this game is for kids you must be either very young or just haven't grown up yet. The same people that bash people for liking a game like this are the same people that watch Disney/Pixar movies and cartoons/anime.
They say they have a lot of 3rd part support but thats what every hardware company says until later down the line you realize where are all the games? Nintendo and Microsoft does this a lot often.
Actually now that you mentioned it, its really hard to find two mario games that are the same. (with the exception of new super mario bros-i havent played the wii u one so i cant speak for that) Every single one has been different and distinct. Yoshis Island, Galaxy, mario rpg, they are all so different
About time Tt broke this habbit of sticking the name Lego onto every successful movie/comic book imaginable. It's been a long, LONG time since we had a Lego game that relied on it's own original characters and an open world since the Lego Island games.
Just understand that I acknowledge that FPS games (online) aren't the greatest games by a long, long stretch but non the less I still enjoy some. They'll never have the joys of open world roaming or actually achieving something but they remain a laugh and a good laugh at that. Also, do you count Far Cry 3, The Bioshock Series and even Portal 2 as FPS as those are definately some of the best and most original games I have ever played. Maybe you are just referring to the online aspects of them
Well excuse me i meant Wii Sports Resort, cause thats the game which has sold 30 plus on the other hand Wii sports sold 70 plus mil, Even with out being bundled NSMB sold around 20 million and then boosted further with the bundle including mario kart which sold up to 20 million before it was bundled. Wii Sports resort is not the same as Kinect Adventures btw as its actually a good game, with an 80 on metacrritic while adventures only has a 61.
YES! and people have been saying it since the snes days of gaming that Nintendo was finished and yet still seem to be coming up with new and better ideas. So that comment is wrong on many levels. The same didn't happen with the wii, the wii came out after the xbox so how is that even possible? I among the few am open to new controls and found them to be amazing with Metroid Trilogy among many other games. Nintendo knows what they are doing, no one seems to understand that. They always have known
There could be a patch on the way to better address the load times. I think that was the biggest gripe in this review. Still... 8.0 is a great score and I am glad.
It was bundled. That's why it sold. It' merely for people to test the Motion Controls. There's nothing special or ground breaking or original about those games. They are merely showcases.
Which shouldn't be the case. They barely touched the Wii in its last two years. There games should have already been ready otherwise what was the point of launching a year ahead of the competition?
I always wondered why they just dont simply fix the loading before releasing games or in this case at least make a patch through DLC or something. The least least least they can do is put something on the gamepad screen that could entertain us whilst the loading is in progress like some stunts or funny stuff we did during our gameplay.....
I wish I could say something good about the wiiU but it's an underpowered system that's not selling well. I bought one, and that only made sense because I didn't already have a Wii. Because it's underpowered and underselling, developers aren't paying a lot of attention to it. Even Ubisoft, the only developer that really believed in it doesn't want to make any more exclusives on it. I'm sure the 1st party games are gonna be amazing, but until then I haven't gotten my money's worth.
*Update* shortly after the reveal of the Xbox One from Microsoft many fans were disappointed and in case you haven't heard Wii U sales on Amazon in the UK increased by 875% which is incredible. Also I have heard that everyone who has talked about it will not get it. You just wait till fall this year they are re-introducing it with tons of highly anticipated and great quality games.
Yes, we will get the character with the most critically acclaimed game of all time (Super Mario Galaxy 1 AND 2) rest of "a while". In other news, God of War 50 came out a few weeks ago. With absolutely nothing new. In fact, it had less weapons.
If you've never played Tri, get Monster Hunter first without a doubt. It's a game that you need to own. If you have played Tri, though, get this first, but still get Ultimate later.
If it can't handle showing a single player experience without a drop in framerate and massive load times, I don't think a split-screen mode is particularly possible. It does look like a lot of fun though.
well i can see why lego decided upon the wii u compared to the 360 honestly when the wii u came to stores it was ALWAYS sold out so then lego had to make a decision wait tell the ps4 or 720 come out, put the game on a older consel ps3 or wii or 360 then the game be usless when newer consoles come out or go straight out with the wii u and try to take advantage and the fast sales the wii u has been having at the start.
That said, if I didn't scroll back far enough I apologize. But PS2's first year being underwhelming is true. And I recognize Wii U isn't hot right now, but it will improve. Give it time.
This game is criminally underrated. Pun intended.
It’s much better on the PS4
The ps4 version has almost no load screens, looks better and runs better, great game
Thanks I'm about to buy it
Thanks lol bought it on Playststion store for $7.50
Thanks for the info, about to buy the game.
In my opinion it's the best Lego game
lego gta

Glad this is getting a remaster to consoles. Could maybe add multiplayer now and fix the locking screens.
the wii u version is so cool tho, his police screen thing is the wii u gamepad irl
This is one of my favorite games and its Lego! There needs to be a sequel
Topham your thoughts now
I'm glad this game is going to get the recognition it deserves with the remaster. I'm picking it up again on the switch and pretty syked for the co-op and just playing it again. Still one of my favorite games on the Wii U and ever

Technically it does on the 3ds but it's a prequel
Topham. Are there guns?
I love this game. This game is so underated. Really big map and so many things to unlock.
Looking at a 4 year old video for a switch game, lol

Theoddguy same but for my xbox
Theoddguy same! But on my wii u

The loading times are not that bad. It gives you time to think about your next plan and gives you time to get a drink or something.
that's the only thing good about them
Or go pee
This game reminds me of GTA 5
because of the loading times of course
This game is the reason I can bare long load times in games
Unless you got the Series X
For the switch its even better. Way better actually.
Yes because they kept the exclusive Nintendo content in the game while it was removed for the other versions.
We just be playing lego GTA

It's a remaster, not port.

It's far better.

Totally agree. The games fantastic fun, and it sorta just fell under the radar.
Here, here! I agree with that 100%. That finale was absolutely INSANE and amazing at the same time.
I love this game. One of the best Wii U titles in my opinion.
So true, testify!
Only started to play it recently and it's fantastic fun! Love the collectathon elements and the open world exploration.

Also, do you count Far Cry 3, The Bioshock Series and even Portal 2 as FPS as those are definately some of the best and most original games I have ever played. Maybe you are just referring to the online aspects of them
Well excuse me i meant Wii Sports Resort, cause thats the game which has sold 30 plus on the other hand Wii sports sold 70 plus mil,
Even with out being bundled NSMB sold around 20 million and then boosted further with the bundle including mario kart which sold up to 20 million before it was bundled.
Honestly one of the more underrated lego game out there
*Update* shortly after the reveal of the Xbox One from Microsoft many fans were disappointed and in case you haven't heard Wii U sales on Amazon in the UK increased by 875% which is incredible.
Try to put your audio setting to Stereo instead of Surround. We've been having trouble with a couple of titles including Skylanders.
If it can't handle showing a single player experience without a drop in framerate and massive load times, I don't think a split-screen mode is particularly possible. It does look like a lot of fun though.
You could imply that rule to anything but acting like gaming wouldn't exist without Nintendo is pure stupidity.
well i can see why lego decided upon the wii u compared to the 360 honestly when the wii u came to stores it was ALWAYS sold out so then lego had to make a decision wait tell the ps4 or 720 come out, put the game on a older consel ps3 or wii or 360 then the game be usless when newer consoles come out or go straight out with the wii u and try to take advantage and the fast sales the wii u has been having at the start.
That said, if I didn't scroll back far enough I apologize. But PS2's first year being underwhelming is true. And I recognize Wii U isn't hot right now, but it will improve. Give it time.
