- The results of India's general elections 2024 have changed the very nature of Indian politics. We have entered into some uncharted territory, where Narendra Modi no longer has an absolute majority. But will have to rely on his coalition partners such as Nitish Kumar & Chandrababu Naidu to form the government.
The congress party which has managed to win 99 seats this time around believes this is the election where the opposition has made its comeback.
So what does this electoral verdict mean for the people of India?
Mohammed Saleh speaks with senior Congress leader Dr Shashi Tharoor on what he thinks will be the nature of Indian politics over the next 5 years.

Tharoor's views are just and balanced especially that of India's foreign policy. In the last ten years the country witnessed how just two individuals could run a govt. Virtually all other ministers were clearly eclipsed. The common man's life has not improved at all.

Yes! It is a Victory for India, because "Vox populi vox Dei" is miraculously active when even one God fearing soul (and NOT idol fearing soul) is in critical need of Divine intervention. Victory for India and Glory to the Almighty God Who can save or destroy anyone or anything at the blink of an eye! They who HATE GOD/JESUS hate themselves and their very own precious soul and spirit. I often think of Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi as political brothers and sisters.
They have created turmoil during their respective reign in politics which has changed the thinking and political landscape of this country for better and worse.
Both are strong leaders; whatever the criticism, the facts are immutable. And both have given us shocks and surprises. Some good, some not so good.
With Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for the third time, his next achievement might be something which will go down in history for all time. He is capable of it.
Indira Gandhi destroyed the privileges and status of the Maharajas which was suppressive and unjust, and belongs to a feudal system of government and not a democracy.
Maharajahs are no more maharajahs. They are businessmen and professionals or whatever.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi can and may want to do something more significant than Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He is against reservations. Why not abolish all reservations?
Also, why not abolish the caste system which spreads its wings of discrimination against our fellow Indian citizens?

28parties together failed to get majority. When compared to 2019 election the performance was better. Only two major parties in India, BJP with 240seats and the Congress with 199.

India needs presidential democracy or something similar. Countries like USA developed rapidly because their presidents have adequate power to do decisive changes. A govt which is spending energy playing coalition games has no time to actually govern.
It's nice that you feel that but with the diversity and population that India has, a person who does things only to their will on such a supreme seat of power will in no doubt see militancy and separatists pop up all over. You should not forget that the Union of India is unlike any other.
Why is it that we hear about Indian students caught in a pickle in Western countries? Is the government advising potential students of what to expect. Why are skilled people trying to leave India to study in a country where they are not really welcome. Recent suicides, murders in Western countries is a matter of concern. Indians are sort of leading in this in Western countries. Second thing to note is why are you losing Gulf expats to Western countries? And why is there a lot of foreign influence converting Indians into foreign run religious organisations. Do we want to be like the Western democracies where more people are dependent on Government control or live the unique way India is known to truly be a free democratic society. Things have changed in the last 10 years that may have gone unnoticed.
