I think many Indian politicians find it extremely problematic to be objective no matter what. Watched the France 24 debate on the Ex Energy Minister who defended Modi as a strong leader even though he was pitted against extremely knowledgeable guests on the panel. Even in the comments section I have noticed for example someone claiming their father yells at them. A reply is Oh parents should be respected.
So what lol?

Very dignified Shashi Tharoor shows us what politicians should be. He never attacked anybody, spoke well of his opponents and even the lone BJP winner, Suresh Gopi. We need educated people like him in parliament.

This man did nothing for his constituency for 15 years and only got elected with Religious appeasement. There is a bridge in Costal TVM that hasn't been built in 4 years and the coastal community voted for him. So much for democracy.

Nope. Tharoor needs to be PM. He is bigger than a CM. Tharoor is already 68. As a Keralite, I don't want him to be a CM and waste 5 years, and then try for the PM when he is much older. I can assure you, Tharoor won't be speaking like this at age 80!

That’s because the Keralite Muslims have assimilated into local culture, speaking the same language and so forth, whereas that is simply not the case in other parts of the countries including for example, Karnataka

I'm surprised that Vir didn't read between the lines when Shashi said that this may be his last Lok Sabha election. There have been whispers that Dr. Tharoor has his eyes set on serving as the CM of Kerala. It'll be interesting to see how the Congress tries to engineer this.
Wouldn't be possible. He wouldn't plan to be part of public elections, but rather be in a commanding position in the Congress party. He's more an intellectual than a politician.

A most civilized exchange. Vir Sanghvi is the best journalist, good listener, not imposing his view. Dr Tharoor, I wrote you a fan letter when you were in govt., to say you were wasted and your calling was writing.
Tharoor, no doubt, is the most qualified person in terms of sensing the reality on the ground and transforming the same into words, if not actions.
He should be Prime Minister of India.

Dr. Tharoor’s words and its humble deliverance is laudable. He exhibits his gentleness and character. This is a real congressman even though there are very few who are arrogant.Whereas if it were a bjp person the interview would have been totally different.
Congress dont screw this opportunity. Make him the Kerala CM face asap. Don't listen to the KC Venugopal's in the party please. The left is formidable in the assembly elections. Dont take them lightly.

Excellent interview. For Congress to be really relevant , it needs to win at least 200 seats on its own in Lok Sabha hereafter for the Alliance to have any chance to form Govt at the Centre. Plus it needs strong and larger number of effective leaders at the top with wide public and grass root connect , both in the states and in the Centre . This election the voters have given the mandate to NDA / Bjp but thankfully INDIA alliance with its 234 numbers is a strong Opposition which was sorely needed for a vibrant and healthy democracy . Even Mr Modi wanted a strong Opposition , as per his interview to the electronic media , and hence we look forward to acche din ahead.
What a wonderful summary at the end by Shashi Tharoor. This is the meaning, the essence, of a loyal opposition. Fiercely loyal to the country, but not necessarily to the party in power, and fiercely opposed to their policies when basic principles are at issue.

Your are the true democracy politicians.plz do good for people of Kerala and other part of our country whether they belong to BJP, congress and other party. Our country need more education, hospital, school and help farmers to do good and help farmers to grow third crop more of organic. Sashi Tharoor reminds me of a story told me how her mother left Malaysia as she was widowed and had five little girls and no income. She sailed back to India and approached the local MP for support. That MP wrote out a letter referring the widow for a govt. Job and this lady got a job as a telephone operator and the local catholic convent admitted the children into school. All of them grew up to be a success in
Life. That is India for you. Stop thinking we are a country run by thugs. Let us appreciate the effort put in. Good luck to the new formed govt.

Shashiji, please be truthful. The situation in Manipur is very sad. Still its not a religious conflict, but rather a tribal one. Yes, Modiji was kind of silent on this. We have still the images of naked women who stand in protest to the Indian army from North East at thw time of Congress as well. There is a visible lack of development in North East and Kashmir during the tenure of your party's rule at the center.
