Very good review. Since I am after medium and dark roast and more in line with Italian style espresso, I decided to go with this grinder in black. I have only had it about 3 weeks. Mine seems quiet and stable, not being as loud as other grinders I have heard. I only use it for espresso, and it is working great for that. I use a hand grinder for pour over. Really enjoying this Eureka Oro so far. Really beautiful to see in person.
Bought the Eureka Oro Stark and im pretty happy ( Same grinder but not single dosing oriented , Kinda eureka mignion specialita with oro single dose specs ). Thanks for being very very complexed and critical in the review . Cheers from Portugal :)
I have this grinder. It's not quiet. I'm glad it's not just mine. It feels like an industrial grinder in a consumer case. I'm not entirely sure if that's good or not. I'd rather that way around than a cool case with sparrows fart for a motor. Holding the hopper helps with the din. I only mention the noise because I have a rotary pump espresso machine, so it feels very slick, quiet and is at odds with the Eureka. Having said that, the Eureka is very consistent, has never clogged, and the retention is minimal. If I was deaf, it would be the perfect grinder. Incidentally, there are now SSP burrs for this grinder. Oh, and great video, Mr H.
I know it's been a while but if anyone is interested in this grinder and only held back by the limited burr upgrade options (like me, I hate the DF64, so this Eureka was on my radar for a while)... I have good news. SSP is making slightly smaller 64 mm burrs for Eureka grinders and I saw photos sent by the vendor of these burrs fitting like a glove. My grinder should be arriving tomorrow and I'll order the SSP burrs maybe next month. Happy I didn't have to go with the DF64.
I ordered the Alibaba burrs he linked and while there was a great improvement with fines and clarity, the burrs were slightly shorter and the grinder can’t bring them close enough together for espresso grind or alignment. Please confirm SSP burrs don’t have this issue! 🙏
You can greatly reduce retention without bellows or RDT by turning the grinder back on immediately after grinding. The kick of the motor knocks extra grind out. I consistently get 0.02g retention with espresso grind.
I've done that. And have even left it off for a while to allow static to lessen. Never once did I get that little of Retention. Not saying you are wrong Just saying that is absolutely not my experience
I bought mine 2 weeks ago and its not noisy. I had a ranchilio grinder which was much noiser. U should also measure from 1m distance 😅 the retention is on average of 0.1g but u have to push the happer hard and for like 10/15 times, pushing softly will have 0.4g retention 😅 so far I am satisfied and it fits my Bianca v3 perfectly. Edit: I bought mine, especially for espresso
So the reason for no rdt, in my opinion: it makes for clump build-up in front of the clump crusher! In my specialita the hole from the grind chamber through the declumper is really small and the water builds up little clumps in front of it that I found recently in my deep clean taking it apart. So i just removed the declumper, now I get almost 0 retention with rdt on the specialita an no coffee building up inside 👍
I figured that was it but I don't always get buildup in machines with declumpers. Can never known with manufacturers. Some of then swear it is bad for the burrs.
As for the reason that Eureka does not recommend RDT, it might have something to do with beans not getting down to the burrs. Someone spritzed their beans in another video that I watched on this grinder and because the hopper sits at that 15 degree angle, a couple of the beans kind of stuck to the bottom of the hopper and he had to poke those into the hole. He mentioned that when he did the same retention tests without using RDT, that issue did not present itself.
I love slapping my Oros bellows every morning. 3D printed an extended dial and used it for aero press and pour overs. It do be leavin snacks in my cup but the espressos have been great afaik lol.
I love your knowledge Lance! This whole time I didn’t think about retention of ~.15 grams in CO2 being released from beans counts as a loss in retention and was frustrated on why no matter how much I thwack my bellows, I’d get 17.2 in 16.9-17.1 out!
In the video it sounded super quiet but if you're saying it's louder than the Sette then holy crap. My Sette it insanely loud so thanks for including that for reference.
There are now 55mm SSP burs for the mignon released this year , no idea if they are an improvement or not but could be a good option for an upgrade instead of a new grinder

Something I notice in many videos (in addition to yours) is very few people use a consistent noise-measuring approach. In industrial machines, most noise specifications specify a distance from the equipment (e.g., one metre away). I suggest adopting a measurement routine along those lines rather than moving the microphone close to the surface. This routine, when used consistently while measuring noise on different pieces of equipment, should give a better basis for comparison.

Super stoked for the DF64 video! I’m moving in august and hoping to upgrade from a hand grinder around then. I’d love to hear how you feel about the DF64 for filter coffee
Great video as always , thanks Lance. Btw, considering retention, shouldn't it be measured by first cleaning the whole burr area (+ shute) and then comparing in- and output (every time)? Or else it seems to me like an X amount of grams might be inside after a grind, during next grind the X amount from previous grind comes out first, and at the end a new X amount of grounds is left behind. You would measure with a "filled grinder" only the consistency regarding throughput no?
I agree. No one in the reviews seems to understand it. Just weighing beans in and grounds out over and over again makes no sense at all. The exchanged grounds are the only reason switching from espresso to filter sucks on the eureka single dose.
@@bluemystic7501 I just opened it up and saw that there was 1g of ground coffee in the exit shout/at the declumber also when I switched to pour over I ended up with more ground coffee than I put in
Really like your videos and reviews. On this particular review though, I’m not sure I got the “final thought” from you. I know you’re not trying to give a black/white verdict on if it’s rights for everyone, but certainly to answer the question in the video title (is it worth the money). I don’t own this grinder, but i have seen and used the specialità. From motor to burrs to case and pretty much everything, this really seems to be one of those on a ramp. Even has the remnant button that is used for portafilter that doesn’t seem to work for this design. “Louder than a Baratza Sette,” Made me spit out my espresso, because as an owner of a Sette, I could barely believe what I heard even with the hearing aid the Baratza caused me to get. That seems crazy from the same company that made the Silenzio. Also because of the increased cost of this grinder. I’ve some other UA-camrs review and compare the Oro, and most seem to conclude that it’s nice and all, just not worth the money. I suppose that you’re going to do some amount of comparison with the DF64 review to really answer if this grinder is worth the money.
Thanks for the overview, Lance. I have a Niche Zero and like to see the competitors in the single dose grinder market. You know...FOMO. Not yet ready to give up my NZ. ☕😁☕
Thanks for the hard work. You've convinced me that it's not necessary for me to upgrade from my Specialita... with a completely stock unit, I only get 0.3 grams of retention when trying to single-dose it, similar to your mentioned numbers before smacking the bellows. Have you had the opportunity to look at any of the Ceado grinders? They have the E5SD which seems like a natural competitor to this thing, but I haven't really seen any discussion of their stuff outside of channels from their vendors (for my part, I'm more interested in the e37SD primarily due to the microadjustment knob. I have suspicions how awful it would be trying to dial in an espresso while rotating the entire top burr carrier, but the price point starts to approach some of the boutique stuff).
Hi! I have the Eureka Silenzio and ever since i opened the top to clean the Burrs ive been having major retention. 3-4 grams approximately. I used to have 0.1 to max half a gram retention. The machine is only 2 months old. `ive tried everything seen all ur videos other videos cleaned it all with brushes hoovering u name it and still getting the same. I would bang on the top after getting that retention and another 2 grams would fall through the shoot but not the grams that i put in. I used to put 17 and get 16,8 and not i get 13-14 and by tilting it and banging on it it i would get maybe 16. but never 17. I even took it to where i bought it from and he said its humidity which is surely not the case. Any advice?? Thanks Sam
I've been using the Eureka Oro for about a month now. I am very pleased with my results. I do agree though, the stock burr set tends to make a good amount of "fines." Lance, is there a burr set you'd recommend to reduce fines and make it more geared towards pour-overs?
Some good news, I messaged Eureka and their response was as follows "We will launch (very soon) a new product, with new burrs, specifically for pour over, and they will be compatible with your Mignon Single Dose. So I kindly suggest you to wait them."
Is there a burr set you would recommend to make this a dedicated drip grinder? I'm having a hard time picking a grinder, already have a nice espresso one, totally okay owning two.
On the grider reviews it would be nice to know the range of settings for espresso dark and light roasts. Too many grinders are described as "a small adjustemt makes a big change". I find this unacceptable for dialing in and later returning to an espresso grind setting.
Excellent review as always Nice information this for the size of the burrs, more like a marketing trick from eureka, I didn't like that from a coffee product company, we are coffee passionates, not washing machine Walmart buyers For an espresso drinker it's a hard decision between this and niche
I love body and sweetness in my shot and am torn between the Sette 270, Niche Zero and this little bad boy, what's your advice, is it worth spending more or will the Sette make me happy if taste is more important than looks, workflow or noise?
Appreciate the video! Would you say the Gorilla Gear burrs would be a significant upgrade if you mostly pull shots of fruit forward, lighter roast coffee? How would the two burr sets compare? I've been liking my Mignon XL, but feel it lacks a little in the clarity department. Many thanks!
@@BensCoffeeRants Actually picked up the Gorilla Gears, they produce a much higher clarity cup. If I would have known SSP was looking into that, I might have waited... If they drop a unimodal, I might be tempted, but the GG burrs are already worlds better.

any experience with the eureka mignon filtro grinders? i heard its got great uniformity and neutrality but i dont see a lot of reviews that go deeper into it comparing to other grinders out there
thx for the explanations and demonstrations... @tasting, particularly espresso : what does s"he does a pretty good job", "it is actually not bad" - putting it bluntly that sounds like a harsh critique , doesn't it;-)??
Hi Lance, thank you always for your insightful reviews. I’m currently torn between a Eureka Mignon and a Niche Zero (I do both espresso and pour over). I looked at your previous reviews of the Niche but couldn’t tell which one you prefer (if you do prefer one over the other at all). As they’re both about the same in terms of price point which one do you prefer for single dosing grinders? I had the specialita recommended to me but know it’s more finicky than the niche to set up.
I'm in the same boat. Really like the look of the niche 0. The price for me is at the higher end, but more importantly flat burr is meant to be better. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the review as always. Really appreciate the fit testing for the different burrs. Always assumed that since Eureka had 'unique' diameter measurements other burrs wouldn't fit so I'm glad that was cleared up. The gorilla gear burrs don't have a dedicated review do they? Or did I miss a video
JUNE 2024 - STILL WAY TOO MUCH VIBRATION. I purchased this grinder new in Australia. I had read all about the first batch's vibration issues, and that they'd been resolved. Sadly, these ORO Single Dose units still have 3-4 times the vibration of Eureka's upright grinders, even vs the XL with same 65mm burr set. I was shocked and disappointed, so I drove to the distributor to compare the Eureka range. The vibrations on their display Single Dose were almost as bad as the one shipped to me. I believe it is a fundamental flaw with the 15 degree tilt of the motor.
Thx you for this review Lance I may have a question...I have an Eureka Mignon Perfetto ,making decents espresso's Do you believe I should upgrade to an Eureka Oro? Will it increase quality of my espressoS? Many thanks to your reviews, you Rock Lance ;-)
If anyone by any chance knows will Ode Gen 2 burrs fit Eureka SD? I suppose Lence is using Gen 1 burrs in the video to show it fits, but will burrs from Gen 2 also fit?
Love your videos, but find it kind of funny yhat you're hand holding a tablet at a random distance to do loudness testing? lol :) My Oro arrived just after Xmas, been loving it so far. Never had any issues with coffee grinds going everywhere, but do notice that it will built up in that spot just behind the wooden dosing cup indent. Also received a pretty decent deal on it with a Lelit Anna PID, so even more happy!
It's not a tablet. It is a phone. And it's just a cheap and easy way to compare decibels. Obviously not accurate but enough so to compare to other grinders. I didn't do this in the past but was inundated with requests to include it.
Issue is, I don't find noise to be super relevant lol. Hard to want to spend even more money (that I don't have lol) on something I don't find to be super useful information to begin with. Haha
@@LanceHedrick lol Fair enough! Actually, Andrew brought something up in one of the follow up to my reply, sounds aren't equal. At the same sound pressure, different frequencies are going to be more annoying than others. Coming from a PC geek point of view, plenty of fans come close to the same volume level as Noctua fans, but they sound much worse. And I can certainly see people being interested on how a grinder or espresso machine is going to sound. Just depends on how deep down the measurement rabbit hole you want to go! All I know, the Oro is making much better espresso than my old Smart Grinder Pro! Oh and quieter too! hah!
Finding lots of mods for the Gaggia Classic Pro. Still searching for a decent, low cost espresso capable grinder. Just saw a UA-cam video the Eureka Mignon Crono/Filtro grinder, putting espresso burrs in place of the filter-brew burrs the grinder(s) come with. $33.00 on Amazon. Your thoughts?
Do those Gevi burrs create a more unimodal taste profile? I have a stock df64 burr and am always looking for more sweetness especially since im drinking light-medium.
Lance I have been binging all your videos. I am looking for an end game grinder that can do both espresso and filter well. In your opinion is that the Ditting 807 Lab Sweet or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.
I just bought the La Marzocco Micra. I will only be doing espresso. Can anyone recommend a grinder? Price is not an issue. I’m thinking this Eurika will fit the bill. I just paid a bomb for the coffee machine I want to make sure I get the best grinder to compliment it.
Lance I’m between this guy and the DF64 with the SSP HU burrs. I mainly like single origin light roast and it will be only for espresso. What’s your call?
@LanceHedrick super quick response lance. :) I was thinking I could machine the rim down to 64mm esp if the wholes allign. I have a machine lathe hence the QQ especially if the ssp are much better burr obviously otherwise its an expensive experiment
How finely can the Eureka Oro Mignon Single Dose grind? I make espresso and some of the roasts I get need to be ground more finely than my Rancilio Rocky (modified with aftermarket burrs to go a little finer than stock) can manage. So, if I am going to spend the $$$, I really need a single does grinder that can go very fine.
@@LanceHedrick I just bought one of these! Very excited. I typically make espresso from dark roasts. What are your thoughts about the various available burrs and dark roasts for espresso? I do want to try some of the newer style lighter roasts, just to see what they are like, FWIW.
The first batch of these were problematic, my bellows was useless as the chute was clogged up way too hard, and retention was all over the place as a result. I think you have the 2nd version (1.1 I believe they call it?) which they have improved / fixed the issues. I think they've tarnished their own name and especially this grinders name as a result of releasing it before it was ready (and not offering people with the 1st edition a solution) luckily the shop I got mine from was cool and didn't mind me returning it. I found the Eureka Burrs are kind of 'conical-like' you should compare with the niche if you haven't, I think both are best with medium-darker roasts. But I think Niche would win on body.
@@LanceHedrick I got the Oro 1.1 updated version now! MUCH improved over the original but bellows chute still clogs up and needs a good beating on the bellows to clear, air escapes from the notch where the hopper fits into, and makes the bellows less efficient as a result. I'm thinking (as Eureka says) it might be better to just use the grinder without the damn bellows, it seems like they included it just to check off a marketing feature. Previously when trying the first edition Eureka Oro SD and Atom 75, I also had a Lagom P64 with 64mm SSP Unimodal MP burrs on the bench, so I thought the flavour clarity was lacking on Eureka, but after using the SSP Cast burrs in a DF64 and P64 as well for a bit (so much body but that I find the clarity is lacking!) So not sure if they changed something, or my perception has just changed but now I find the flavour clarity and body is a nice balance on the Oro SD burrs (just tested with espresso so far). It's also surprisingly similar (at full RPM) to the Stock P64 burrs (also looks similar but less pre-breakers) I've had a P64 for a while but never tried the Stock burrs on it till recently and they were better than expected. From my memory I think I like the stock P64 (and Eureka Oro SD) burrs better than I did the DF64 (Italmill) burrs. It's been a while since I was on those stock DF64 burrs though, I do remember them being high clarity and low body vs Eureka Specialita 55mm I had at the time.
@@bogdanadzic9305 faster and more quiet but higher retention and not as good for single dosing. So depends on what you really want. I don't think you're missing out on one over the other. Just make sure you don't get the original first batch of ORO SD, 1.1 or newer. I recommend not bothering with the bellows on it but could give it a try maybe some work better than others. The atom some people say works for single dosing if you ad a single dose mod and bellows and removed declumper I tried using a bellows from df64 on the atom 75 and it wasn't working well that way.

Ah true. I guess I assume implications are evident. I don't think it worth the money, tho it is a fine grinder.
Thanks for the overview, Lance. I have a Niche Zero and like to see the competitors in the single dose grinder market. You know...FOMO. Not yet ready to give up my NZ. ☕😁☕
Thanks. On my short list. Looking forward to next weeks video. I will get black to match my LH DB I am getting (🙏🏼)
Heck yeah! Love to hear it haha
It’s so hard to buy a prizy grinder knowing it won’t preform as good on either espresso or filter. I do be liking them both…
For sure. This would do both well with other burrs.
As always great video :)
Hey mate, I do enjoy espresso but also do a lot of flat whites/cappucinos.
Would you recommend this grinder or the niche?
great reviews, one gentle suggestion is to compress your vocals to limit the volume variation when you speak.
Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching!
Great geek content!
Good timing with the wired gourmet 🤓
Haha I saw that!
@@LanceHedrick but it’s a perfect addition! Thank you for this! I think I’m sold, i don’t really mind the noise, plus it looks really good.
Thanks Sam
Thanks!
Lance, I'd still would love to hear your thoughts on any alternatives. Thanks mate!
@@Danylevy12 nothing
Is there a burr set you would recommend to make this a dedicated drip grinder? I'm having a hard time picking a grinder, already have a nice espresso one, totally okay owning two.
I'm also curious for what the best option for pour-over burr sets pair best with this grinder!!
On the grider reviews it would be nice to know the range of settings for espresso dark and light roasts. Too many grinders are described as "a small adjustemt makes a big change". I find this unacceptable for dialing in and later returning to an espresso grind setting.
@8:40 why not spritsing with water? Well I'm cleaning it atm, the small feed tube gets clogged up 😬
Excellent review as always
Nice information this for the size of the burrs, more like a marketing trick from eureka, I didn't like that from a coffee product company, we are coffee passionates, not washing machine Walmart buyers
For an espresso drinker it's a hard decision between this and niche
Thanks for the kind words! And for me, I'd go with this if between it and niche. But thats just because I'm not a big fan of the niche.
can you help me on how many times to turn around the grinder adjuster after screwing it out completely?
I love body and sweetness in my shot and am torn between the Sette 270, Niche Zero and this little bad boy, what's your advice, is it worth spending more or will the Sette make me happy if taste is more important than looks, workflow or noise?
Just a heads-up, the eureka pro filter burrs only come in 50 and 55mm, for the smaller mignons
Ah that sucks. I assumed there was 65mm versions. Oh well. Good thing I suggested alternatives lol
How are they for espresso? More clarity?
The brew burrs? I haven't tried them for the specialita
@@221b-l3t I haven't seen of any comparisons. All I've heard is that they're good
Will you be reviewing the Eureka Atom 75 in the future?
This
What about atom75 if oro not available
Love the grinder. Will you do a DF64 review next?
Yep! Next week. Filmed and being edited.
Thank YOU!
@@LanceHedrick looking forward to it. Thank you :)
Hooray!
Thank you for the excitement!
I think SSP is also coming out with burrs for some Eureka grinders finally! If they have a Unimodal type burr, go for that.
@@BensCoffeeRants Actually picked up the Gorilla Gears, they produce a much higher clarity cup. If I would have known SSP was looking into that, I might have waited... If they drop a unimodal, I might be tempted, but the GG burrs are already worlds better.
@@BensCoffeeRants where did u see this? Would be nice if that's true.
@@ronaldlau14789 facebook somewhere I believe someone had a test version already. Showed pics. I think there is going to be ones available for 55mm specialita (actually 54mm I believe) and 64mm (for Oro SD etc)
any experience with the eureka mignon filtro grinders? i heard its got great uniformity and neutrality but i dont see a lot of reviews that go deeper into it comparing to other grinders out there
Hey Lance, notice you have the breville espresso machine, your views on vibration vs rotary pump?
thx for the explanations and demonstrations...
Im the same. This is cheaper than the niche though.. id really like his opinion on it
What kind of coffees do you guys like, light medium or dark? And just for espresso?
I'm in the same boat. Really like the look of the niche 0. The price for me is at the higher end, but more importantly flat burr is meant to be better. 🤷♂️
@@Daniel_Adam it all depends on the specific burr design can't really judge by flat or conical these days.
I do prefer medium to darker roasts atm. Espresso only for me
Thank you
🥰🥰🥰
27 min!!!! I’ll go watch wholelattelove c ya
Great, if like biased reviews. They'll push the products they want to sell
@@UsmanDar92 actually have to agree as I’ve seen more of his vids. He’s awespme
Wow louder than the baratza sette, Eureka need to put in some of their silencing stuff they put in the silenzio.
Louder by decibel but the pitch isn't as unpleasant as the sette lol
Thx you for this review Lance
I may have a question...I have an Eureka Mignon Perfetto ,making decents espresso's
Do you believe I should upgrade to an Eureka Oro?
Will it increase quality of my espressoS?
Many thanks to your reviews, you Rock Lance ;-)
Why can’t I find any comparisons between the oro and the zero (eureka)
Hay I drink French press n filter coffee with milk - which makes better taste niche, eureka or fellow ode (without ssp) ?
How is moving back and forth between filter and espresso with the small dial stepless adjustment?
As annoying as every other one of their models haha!
You have to remember where you are in terms of rotations and numbers.
@@LanceHedrick Invest in a cheap sound meter, measuring tape and a triopod. Just like making espresso, comparisons need consistency! :)
Issue is, I don't find noise to be super relevant lol. Hard to want to spend even more money (that I don't have lol) on something I don't find to be super useful information to begin with. Haha
I think for most people the quality of the sound is more important than the quantity of sound.
Oh and quieter too! hah!
Would RDT make any difference in more humid climates? I live in the tropics and have never had an issue with static.
Cheers!
Im really curious on your opinion about the eureka brew pro, it’s basically a specialita but with a brew specific burrs.
Off topic but I feel like we deserve a moustachioed Lance
I'll try. Just for you
How did you remove the dialing knob ?
Thanks.
Please make a review on the Eureka Oro XL!
Which burr has the 23 breakers? The link in the description goes to the listing for 12 breakers.
“Daddy Hoff will be proud” lol
Are the Gevi style burrs better than the stock Oro burrs?
Df64. No question.
Great stuff!
Quick question, is the alibaba-burrs sold in pairs? Or do you need to buy two of them?
Just FYI Lance, you missed the card linking to the Specialita review when you mentioned it in the vid.
Oh crap. Thank you!
@@LanceHedrick keep doing what you’re doing, you make some of the best in depth Coffee vids out here.
How would you compare this to DF64?
RDT might have a negative effect on the declumper, would be my guess. Great review btw.
I guess but I don't have that issue with a small spritz on other grinders unless the declumper sucks haha!
Would you plan to do a review for Fiorenzato Allground? Wanna pick one between ORO Single Dose and Allground.
Yep! I should be getting one somewhat soon
@@LanceHedrick Thank you so much!! Cant wait to watching your review!🤩🤩
Hi Lance,
Does the quality in cup pretty much same as the specialita?
here a question. rather than machining/dremeling the grinder. Could you remachine the ssp burr to fit. Do the wholes allign?
yes the holes align. I would not recommend remachining the burrs.
@LanceHedrick super quick response lance. :) I was thinking I could machine the rim down to 64mm esp if the wholes allign. I have a machine lathe hence the QQ especially if the ssp are much better burr obviously otherwise its an expensive experiment
@LanceHedrick great video btw. Looking at alternatives to the niche.
It can go as fine as you need, without a doubt!
@@LanceHedrick Good to hear. Thanks!
@@LanceHedrick I just bought one of these! Very excited. I typically make espresso from dark roasts. What are your thoughts about the various available burrs and dark roasts for espresso?
I do want to try some of the newer style lighter roasts, just to see what they are like, FWIW.
Hey Lance,
How do the slightly larger burrs compared with the specialita? Would the espresso taste pretty much the same?
Agreed with tour analysis of the burrs completely. Niche wins on body but oro wins on flavor separation (marginally lol)
Previously when trying the first edition Eureka Oro SD and Atom 75, I also had a Lagom P64 with 64mm SSP Unimodal MP burrs on the bench, so I thought the flavour clarity was lacking on Eureka, but after using the SSP Cast burrs in a DF64 and P64 as well for a bit (so much body but that I find the clarity is lacking!)
So not sure if they changed something, or my perception has just changed but now I find the flavour clarity and body is a nice balance on the Oro SD burrs (just tested with espresso so far).
@@BensCoffeeRantswould u say its worth gettin atom 75 with eureka red speed for 850 is it better than oro single dose
Have you tried the Df64? Curious if you have any thoughts about it
Yep! Video coming next week
