I vividly remember the moment in my life when I realized I achieved my goal. I had a friend named Gabe who got me into Muay Thai and the gym. One of the things Gabe told me was “whatever happens to you when you’re in a fight… don’t go down.” I promised him I would never go down. Gabe died in a car accident a few days after he told me that. For an entire year, I trained like hell. I was 16 at the time, and everybody in my gym looked at me like I was insane. Well, I decided to do some full contact heavy sparring with the best fighter at my Muay Thai gym. We had equal physical stats. He had been training for 4 years longer than me though. I held my own for the entire fight, but at the end he caught me in a bad clinch. He kneed me at about 70% power straight to the solar plexus. It hurt so bad that my vision starts going inward, I could barely breathe, and I thought I was gonna go down. But I got out of the clinch, and as I was about to start fighting again the final bell rang. He congratulated me and he said, “I kept kneeing you and the only thing I could thing is ‘why won’t this motherfucker go down’” and it hit me. I stayed true to my word.

He was deadlifting 500+, squatting 600+ and benching 400+. Despite being obese, he still went weekly to the gym and did powerlifting. I believe he's right about the estimate, given that he was 260 LBs with a 6-pack when he ran his first supermarathon.

I realised this when I met someone that does nothing, nothing at all just played league of legends in their apartment all day. you telling me David Goggins, without any fat at all on his body, weighs 202lbs? or roughly 5lbs more than the average man in America, a country known for their obesity levels/crisis?
He would have a had a BMI of 40 back then. His base BMI, without any fat at all / or in other words a body fat percentage of 0%, would be 26.5 (already overweight). You can't use the "oh well, he has a lot of muscle" on this one either, because this was back when he was severely overweight without any muscle on his body.
He currently, with a lot of muscle mass and a bf% of roughly 10% (eye measurements), weighs 200lbs (or 2lbs more than his alleged body 0% bf)
He was probably closer to 60% bf at 300lbs
I respect the guy, but this just goes to show no one truly knows their body and everyone has a skewed perspective on their own body, no matter who they are. Like Ronnie Coleman saying he was -0.3% bf at his peak

Defenitely not 60% body fat. Remember that he was a power lifter but he didn't like how much he weighed, take a look at his old images- He wasn't COMPLETELY obese, 60% is very outrageous to be honest.
He lost muscle as well. Being that heavy means you must have muscle to support yourself. When you lose that weight there is almost no way to keep all the muscle. This doesn't mean fat people will squat/deadlift/bench more than lean athletes, because lifting and strength are affected by much more than just muscle mass.
