  • It’s unfortunate, but the evidence for this is in the genetic makeup of your cat, as well as the health problems domestic cats currently struggle with. While, again, nutrition is not the only factor to blame, it is a big piece to the puzzle. All studies, journals, and articles are linked below:

If we have reasons to be skeptical about the human food industries, then we should definitely be keeping an eye on the cat food industries as their regulations aren’t nearly as strict.

My cat had a blocked urinary tract and almost died when he was 12, it was horrible. Since then he's been strictly eating wet food. He is more energetic now at 15 than he was at age 12. He's lost some of the extra weight he had as well. No more kidney or bladder issues either. No matter how much water you think your cat is drinking, if he's a dry food diet he's chronically dehydrated. Cats have a very low thirst drive.

Cannot deny the science. You wouldnt buy a horse and feed it meat, youd feed it hay. You wouldnt buy a fish and feed it dog food. So why buy a cat and not feed it meat? Perfect video!

I’ve been mixing raw beef, raw lamb, sometimes grilled chicken and fish into my cats wet food and feeding them twice a day. They now barely touch their kibbles even though I leave a tiny bit in their bowls all day. Yay!

Thank you for posting this!!!! I wish someone told me this when I got my kitties. Everyone needs to know that cats shouldn't be eating dry.. even if it's one meal wet and one dry. Dry is for peoples convenience and wallets. I had to go through a male cat with a blockage from crystals and did my own research. A vet misdiagnosed the issue before the blockage. Then after the mental stress from worrying about how he was doing and a very high vet bill during the blockage I did my own research. The vet was feeding dry prescription because he wouldn't eat during the day because he was too spooked by the vet's office while recovering. The vet recommended a prescription food at home but the wet ingredients didn't look good to me. I went to a wholistic pet store and got a supplement and quality food and took him home right away. The vet told me I could take him home after agreeing that he would come back the next day for a checkup. As soon as he was home and eating the new food and supplement he started getting better and now he is thriving. Both my kitties coats are shiny especially the girl who is 19 and always had a dry poofy coat that had to get shaved down for summer because of mats. Another thing that is important especially when you get a new kitten is to brush their teeth to prevent dental issues and they are more accepting of it later on when you slowly let them get used too it.

I love how you're bringing awareness to the controversy with dry food. The only thing I have a little bit of a gripe with is the comment about veterinarians. It's definitely a problem that companies provide unhealthy foods are educating vets about nutrition. From what I have gathered from working with vets and listening to many lectures from veterinarians, most schools do not provide much information about nutrition. This is why the people that know better will either seek out a nutritionist or do their own research. There are some vets that are knowledgable such as Dr. Becker and Dr. Pierson but there are so few of them and it's really a shame. Most vets are struggling with money after they finish school and any free information and products would be hard to pass off if you don't know better.

I switched Sami to Feline Natural Wet food and then do freeze dried raw for treats. The strays in my neighborhood are all fat since they are fed by the local cat lady mostly rice with a little bit of meat or cheap kibble. She doesn't have a lot of money, so I can't blame her, and being fat is better than starving to death. Sometimes I feed them my cat's leftovers. He's a stray too. Somebody had poured boiling water on him so I decided to take care of him. I can't adopt them all, unfortunately.

He’s no longer on dry food and i’m switching my other two cats to more wet food after they finish the last batch i brought. I switched him to wet food and thank God he is now healthy, i occasionally give him some soaked in water kibble but he eats mostly canned food (which consist at least 50% meat). If you want, you can also buy feeder mice/rats for your cat(s) to eat, so their teeth can remain strong (cats will eat those whole). There are plenty of feeder mice/rats that you can buy for your pets, due to the reptile industry. Their natural diet is mice/rats afterall (with maybe an occasional bird or rabbit, so chicken and rabbit from the grocery store are also nice for them too, although rabbit is harder to get your hands on).
If you find that they don't take to the feeder mice/rat easy, you can warm the food up in warm water to make the meal warm (as it would be if they had hunted it themselves... just don't put it in the microwave).

I asked my vet could it be better to go raw as my cat seems to get some digestive system problems from the canned wet food (farts, growling stomach). I also explained that I already give him organs, meat, some softer bones, egg yolk, goat milk etc. so she understands that I don't feed him pure chicken meat or burger meat :D
She said I can, but should still feed him the kibble that veterinary clinic sells so I can fill the vitamin, aminoacid deficit because otherwise I will have to feed him a lot of pills to give him everything he needs. I'm not sure if it's true or she just want me to buy their super expensive kibble.
I also got 3 different medicine prescribed for slightly swollen gums after teeth change. And said that it is mandatory to give my short haired cat some expensive stinky hairball paste every week. Didn't even know my active, curious, regularly-on-clock-pooping, eating and drinking cat has so many problems that we need to give him 4 different medicine twice a day... seems a bit crazy.

Can you please answer me this. I'm really worry about the future of my cat. I just got a cat whose previous owner had fed him friskies indoor delights kibble (super high in carbs 1st and 2nd ingredients are corn and corn gluten meal) since he was a kitten until recently (about 8 years). I also assumed she barely drank since she wondered around and didn't live with them.
So does this mean even if I switch to raw food (NRC) now it's still too late to wish for her to live at the very least until she's 15? Since she have had bad food her entire life. I know there are other factors involved and you also told us to live at the moment but I just really wish to know if it's still possible to fix her life expectancy when she's already 8. I'm greedy so I'm not talking about extending it just 2 or 3 years either. It's depressing to not know and I know that even if I get the answer I couldn't change the past. But still the answer might help me to mentally cope better when the time comes.

It’s great that it’s supposedly low carb, but dry food of any kind isn’t good for cats due to the low moisture content. Dry food of any kind is well established as causing urinary tract disease, blockages, stones and so much more. Study after study has proven that dry food=urinary tract disease.
This is due to the fact that cats have a low thirst drive and rely on the moisture in their food to stay hydrated. They need high moisture food in order to stay healthy.
Studies have shown that cats on dry food diets are unable to drink enough water to make up for the lack of moisture in their food. This means that cats on dry food diets are in a state of constant dehydration even if they look otherwise fine.
So I wouldn’t feed any dry food to a cat. No matter the ingredients, dry food just isn’t healthy for them.

It's recommended to do a 7-10 day transition between new foods. I have been watching a bunch of wet/dry food comparison videos over the last few weeks. At the end of it, I would recommend anyone to make sure they talk to their vet before listening to youtubers. No one knows our pets more than our own and our own vets.
I just got two tabby kittens. The vet says they will like what they like but was advised to give them a mixture of wet and dry foods. So I am transitioning them out of the purina stuff that was initially given at the shelter because it's really considered bottom of the barrell food.

This is going to be a long comment, but my cat was recently diagnosed with allergy gastritis. The vet said it was more than likely from an ingredient change in the food. My cat has been on a wet diet since she was a kitten, but now my vet is telling me that "dry food is better for the stomach and cleans the teeth". I said "cats are obligate carnivores and need meat". He became very annoyed at my response. For some reason he was pushing for me to buy the dry food at his clinic. I'm guessing he must be getting sponsored to sell it? My cat didn't like the prescription food anyway. So I then decided to see if the local pet shop would have a digestion food for her. The staff working there also kept telling me how "dry is better for the teeth and stomach". Also saying that "meats containing only fish were better to digest and won't cause allergies," is that true? This time I decided to say nothing about dry being unhealthy for cats, as it seems dry is pushed as the healthier option and I didn't want an arguement in the store. One of the staff also suggested that "feeding dry high quality only" would be good. So why is it that they see dry as better? If these professionals say it's better for me to feed her dry, should I diasgree and correct them? When I give my cat dry food she seemed to be drinking way more water too. I've read that a dry food diet can cause kidney problems, I mentioned that to the vet and he said "it's a small percentage of cats". I hope a knowledgeable feline person can give me answers.

Hello! I am not a vet, however I've owned 4 cats in my life and currently own a 7 year old Sphinx who we switched to raw around 4 years ago! This is just a few facts I know from experience and a bit of research.
When I fed my cat kibble her health was horrible, nothing like your vet said! Her teeth were a dark yellow, her skin was more oily than it should've been, her digestive system was a mess from constant vomiting/diarrhea, and her eyes were very cloudy, this is only a small list of what she went through, poor kitty. She is way better now, though.
On top of that, there are better ways to clean her teeth... I think your vet and local pet store staff is just trying to get you to buy it. Beware the marketing!
Dry, unmoisturized kibble is cooked heavily in the manufacturing factories. When you cook meat, not only is some of the moisture cooked away, but some of the nutrients are too! Even just a light cooking or exposure to air can destroy some nutrients like taurine, which is very essential, so just imagine how many are lost from the intense heating practice! Because of this, a lot of vitamins and minerals need to be added synthetically. Ever notice the massive list of vitamins at the bottom of the list? It is better (and more natural!) to supply your cat's nutrients through her food.
Plus, how can a simple ingredient change in your cat's food make her react so bad? I just don't see how changing your cat's food slightly could cause inflammation in their stomach... I could see minor vomiting or diarrhea, but otherwise? Can't see it. Feline gastritis can be caused by other similar reasons too, like a reaction to medicine, pancreatitis, kidney disease (hmm..), an infection, or just changing food to fast.
Also, I think your vet IS sponsored, why would he get mad you're trying to feed a better diet to your cat? Does he WANT your cat to get sick? Most "veterinary" kibbles are FULL of CHEAP FILLERS! I was reading up on ingredients lists on veterinary food, and they BARELY had anything to do with real meat! Just look at Hills and Royal Canins vet "food" ingredients lists for example! It's absolutely horrible and an internal pain to read. You would be paying $4-9/lb for corn, wheat, soy, and synthetic nutrients, with a tad bit of meat product, is that NOT a scam?!
Dry kibble is seen as healthy because it contains vitamins and minerals that are approved by authorities like the FDA and AAFCO. Neither of them actually care about ingredients, only safety. They also do not have laws or requirements saying pet food industries can't use horrible ingredients like 4D (dead, dying, disabled, diseased) animals or slaughterhouse waste! (May be why they think high quality is better, but there is no telling for sure since they aren't required to tell where they source ingredients...)
The reason your kitty drinks so much water on dry is because she is dehydrated! My Sphinx did the same. Dry food has little to no moisture, so when it is put in water, or in this case your cat's saliva, it absorbs it like a sponge! Try it for yourself, take a cup or bowl of water and add a bit of kibble to it. You will see the kibble sucks up the water and enlarges. Imagine what it's doing to your cat's stomach!
If you could get back to me, I would also like to know what brand/s and flavor/s of wet food you are usually feeding your cat? From what I seen, most commercial wet foods contain harmful/low quality ingredients you should REALLY look out for.
I hope this could help, and if you have any more questions, please notify me!

@@monke-qh5hy Hi, thank you for taking your time to comment and help me. I really appreciate it :)
Aww, so cute, I've always wanted a sphinx. That's cool, I've had plenty of cats myself, but my current cat seems to have the most health problems. Maybe because she's a purebred Siamese? When I was growing up not much was known about pet healthcare, we just gave our cats commerical foods and they were fine. So I'm trying to learn and research more.
That's exactly what I read up on. About peoples experiences that their cats would get sick on dry, like your sphinx has. Your poor cat, I'm glad you found out it was her food. The poor thing :(
Oh really? Do you mean brushing? Because I don't think she would let me. She also has a missing tooth from an injury. All they do is mention "dry cleans the teeth". That makes sense, because the pet shop girl was adament the stores own "high quality brand" was good because she was feeding her Maine Coon on it for years, and the other cats she had. So I just went with her advice and there were no other options there.
Yeah, I've heard about this from doing research that kibble is processed heavily etc. But yep, not according to my local vet and the pet shop. I knew it wasn't right. I've definetley noticed in brands like go-cat the corn. I've seen on high end brands adding potatoes and veg too. Probably to bulk out the ingredients and make it cheaper?
That's what I was thinking. I actually said that to my vet "why all of sudden has she reacted?". It made no sense. Oh, since my cat was sick, there was a recall of the foods she was on. It was on the news. Apparently companies like Mars contaminated the pouches and tins to seal the food. So I'm not sure if her illness was from that. She was vomitting up bile mixed with grass in the house for a few days, that's when I knew she wasn't okay. I didn't notice her stools because she goes outside. The vet didn't mention any other causes. Other than the current food she was on being possibly the cause of her inflammed stomach. He just straight away suggested dry food would be easier on her digestion and good for the teeth. She had a diabetes test because he said it could be that. It thankfully was negative, and he did an x-ray on her too which showed her stomach was really inflammed (I never saw the x-ray). Oh, I also remember him saying something about her white blood cells being low. He didn't test her for kidney disease or pancreatitis. Weird thing is about 4 years ago, my cat had stomach issues, I went to the same vet and he diagnosed her with IBS. But there was no mention about IBS this time. She's never had IBS problems since the time he diagnosed her. Is that strange? She's always been on the same food since I got her. The breeder fed her on dry but I changed her to wet only.
I really think so. He's the the closet vet where I live, I don't want to ever bring my cat there again. Because he was condscending to me and pushing the whole buy the food here. He probably does. As it means more money for him. More sick pets, the more he gets financially. I do remember volunteering there a long time ago, and he would euthanize stray kittens with conjunctivitis because the staff didn't have the time or space to care for them. I remembering hearing that this same vet had his livestock license taken off of him because he was injectioning cattle with fake vaccines (using saline). Oh, wow! I never knew fake meats were added. It is a rip off because the big bags in the vet aren't cheap either. The whole of the vets shop is the same brand.
So is it kind of like the human vitamin industry? Most of the products you don't know are safe etc. I never knew that they could sell diseased animals as pet food. That is just horrible
The poor thing. I've been giving her at least a half bowl of dry a day and the rest wet food. I knew a pure dry food diet is bad, but I hope no health issues will occur now. That sounds awful and imagine a life of bland dry food too, so mean and boring.
So I'm currently feeding her Select gold- senior 'digestion' (dry) and select gold -senior digestion wet food, it's a german brand I think. Also, I got her pate tins of beef and fish, which was recommended by the girl at the pet shop. I can't remember the brand name right now.
She wouldn't eat the prescription wet food in the tin for gastro and she wouldn't eat the pet shop off brand prescription food either. The other wet foods she hardly touches, it's like she has no appetite and is picky. She will take a few nibbles at it and leave it to go crusty. The dry food she will eat more of but not enough. I'm not sure if her stomach is still sore.
She's been desperately trying to eat the other cats food too. She will even try to lick the bowl after the other cat has eaten, she never used to do that. I gave her previous food to a local stray cat and she would even try to see if there were leftovers. It's like she misses the old food.
Yeah I've been avoiding store bought foods. I just only have the pet shop which has the digestion products.
I do have a question. My cat gets me up multiple times 10pm-2am and 4-8am. She will go out for 10 mins then come back and then want to go out again within 5 mins of being in. So I'll have to keep getting up at least 4-5 times which means (broken sleep) and she sometimes will do it throughout the night. It was worse when she was ill. The continuous in and out. I can't keep her from my room either because she is so vocal and likes to be with me. I'd rather her wake me up once and stay outside for at least an hour. She has toys too to burn energy. Do you know why she does this? It got to the point I started to get insomnia because of her and I always had no energy. She also will tap her paw my face or scratch the door which can't be ignored either haha. I asked the vet and they were no help.
      It did, thank you :)

@@Ash-br3bx Sorry for taking so long to reply. 😅
Although I have heard purebred cats and dogs usually have more health issues, I personally have never heard of Siamese cats generally getting gastro- or -itis diseases?
Coincidentally, 2 of my older cats were Siamese, however one died of adenocarcinomas and the other severe asthma. I also was not exposed much to pet medicine, but I'm sort of glad I wasn't because I don't want to be told dry, brown, chemical-ridden rocks would be good for my pets...
And yes, I do mean by brushing. It is usually better and easier to start when they are kittens (under a year old) because they are smaller and easier to pull into the direction you need to, however you can with adult cats too! There are a lot of cat toothpastes you can use to get started. For example if your cat likes beef, you can shop for a beef flavored toothpaste. You should start by letting your cat taste it first, then later try to brush her teeth with a toothbrush and the toothpaste. Try to do it about 3-4 days a week, after a few weeks or months she should get used to it. Another, easier way to clean your cat's teeth is to let her chew on raw bone! Raw bone actually has an enzyme that breaks plague better (and cheaper) than toothpaste or even a professional cleaning! Raw chicken wings or chicken paws are cheap and work fine, quail bone is also good but can be a bit more pricey. Be careful with some bones as they can be too big and/or hard for your cat to chew.
Some cats actually do good on higher quality kibble, however I don't think you should take a random worker's advice, again they might just be trying to get you to buy it lol.
And yeah, most likely trying to bulk it out since the authorities don't hold "higher quality" dry kibble brands to any standard, they can just do whatever they want. Sometimes actually have a similar ingredient list as regular kibbles, Wellness CORE and Tiki Cat for example. They have great ingredients, but also use synthetic nutrients. (not to say they are all bad, but please be aware)
There could be a possibility your cat has consumed whatever Mars was using if you are using a brand made by them. You should probably try to get your cat to stay inside with a toy or something similar so you can examine her poop when she eventually goes. You should check for blood or anything unusual. I'm glad your cat hasn't got diabetes! But I think you should ask about the x-ray shots to be sure, this vet seems very distrustful, considering her IBS suddenly disappeared, I'm assuming on no meds.
Although he is the closest vet I think it would be better for you and your cat to go to another one, I wouldn't trust my cat with a dude who euthanizes sick kittens and injects cattle with saline. You should try to find a holistic vet to help you, they helped me with my cat :).
Yes, it pretty much is sadly, we can't even feed our pets without constantly worrying. Everything the citizens don't or can't eat are ground into kibble and yummy canned sludge. This could be horns, teeth, beaks, neck meat, poop, intestines/stomach, hooves, ears, old restaurant grease, hair, roadkill, underdeveloped eggs, fetal tissue, and more disgusting by-products and trash your cat shouldn't be eating. If you can imagine it, it's probably in there.
It is great that you aren't feed a fully dry diet! I would still be careful with ingredients of both foods. For example, some wet foods contain a chemical called "carrageenan" and if you see that in your cat's wet food, throw it out IMMEDIATELY as it can cause stomach issues in cats (🤔) and humans. It's used to make the food seem more thick and natural-ish.
Taking a small look at Select Gold's digestion dry and wet food showing me the dry food has a very confusing ingredients list considering it just says 'poultry' which can be chicken, turkey, quail, duck, or goose.. so the fact they aren't very specific is worrying me. Also according to their website it contains 25.5% rice, which not only is rice a cheap filler, it's also bad for a cat's stomach (🤔) at a large amount since cats are carnivores they NEED meat not 25% rice. It also takes up as much space as the meat does since the "poultry protein" is only 27%, poultry fat 3.7%, and chicken meat at 16%. Not to mention near the bottom it contains "animal tissue" which can be from any animal since they didn't specify. I don't think it's poultry or any healthy normal meat because they would've flaunted it...
If your cat won't eat anything else she probably doesn't like an ingredient/s in there or has an addiction to her regular wet food. Some companies use a lot of taste, texture, and smell enhancers to make your pet love it. Especially if she is going out her way to try to get some more. And yes, her stomach must be very sore with all the inflammation.
She probably either likes going outside, pooping outside, or goes to eat grass. Usually cats with stomach pains eat a lot of grass to force themself to vomit, especially since she's doing it more now. You should go out with her to see what she does. If it's not that she may not like her toys. You can also cover the door with a blanket or cloth so the scratch is not as loud.
I'm not sure if you are considering to switch raw, but if you are I would recommend it. xoxo

      @@monke-qh5hy That's perfectly okay.
She has 'allergic' gastritis. So allergies to food and she also gets flea allergy dermatitis, which is in control now. I give her stronger flea meds. I do think it is a breed issue though, because she's my first purebred cat and my other cats in the past would only need spay/neuter, health checks and dewormer/flea.
She's the only cat to have flea allergies, food allergies and supposedly IBS. I did google allergies in cats and it said "Siamese cats are prone to allergies". Not sure if that's correct, but it would explain a lot.
That's so sad. I hope that doesn't happen to my cat :(.
Okay, I'll look into getting her a toothbrush. She's a pretty placid cat and doesn't scratch at all, so maybe she won't tear me to pieces if I try lol. Oh chicken wings? I didn't know they could have them. I'll definitely try them with her and they aren't costly at all either. Should I just stick to chicken bones?
That's what I was told, that some cats do good on dry food. I think they were just trying to get me to buy it.
That's crazy and messed up. Pet food should have good sourced ingredients and then they lie to get you to buy it. A lot of people wouldn't know better. I don't use wellness core, I think she did try it years ago though.
Yeah I think so. No more Mars food anymore. She doesn't go too far outside, I think in the bushes lol. So I might check when she goes next time. That's another thing, she always has to be with me if I'm home and she won't go too far from the house lol.
I never get a break sometimes it's like she's a toddler😅. Mm-hmm, that's what I was thinking because I never saw the x-ray myself. How the IBS was never brought up. Yeah she never was given medication for IBS.
I'll have to go somewhere else. That's great you got the help you needed. There are no holistic vets where I'm from 😅 cats aren't popular either and aren't really liked.
Oh that is disgusting. I never realized it could be the leftovers gone into the cat food. Terrible isn't it?
I looked at the tins and I can't see "carrageen" listed. It's so bad how they put that in food knowing it's harmful.
No way?! 25.5% rice. And the staff in there telling me how great it is etc😡 that they feed their pets on it. The flavours aren't very specific, yep. I didn't think anything of it at the time. I was told it it was "high protein" and "good enough to feed fully on". I feel so stuck then. It was the only pet shop around with varieties of food. Wow, I'm just so shocked. I feel bad now giving her that junk food. Basically anything could be in it. Then those idiots claiming they give it to their pets.
She hasn't eaten at all today. She was trying to steal the other cats food again. Crying all the time for the old food. It never stops 😑 probably some chemical sprayed on the food to make her an addict lol. I feel bad because she's not eating and meowing at me all the time.
I have no idea what she does outside. Because last night she got me up, I let her out and literally by the time I got back into bed, she's at my window crying to come in. So not even 5 mins outside. It's hard work, and it shouldn't be happening. At the end of the day she's a cat, not a human infant. She shouldn't be waking me up as if she's a newborn baby 😅. I love her but the constant lack of sleep just is draining. I hope things can only get better. I'm not sure if she's still eating the grass. I'll have to check tonight what she does.
She loves her toys and always chases them around. She even drops the ball down the stairs and chases it. Definetely the most playful cat I've ever had, considering that she's nearly 8 years old.
I never thought of putting a blanket agaisnt. I'll try that to see.
I would consider it, but is it easy to do? Do I get the meat from the butchers or supermarket? I'm guessing it's afforable. Because you mentioned chicken wings which are inexpensive. I'm open to it, just let me know what I'd need 😊
      Thanks again😊

@@Ash-br3bx Might have errors, I'll fix it later if so.
Yeah it might be, as I said Siameses usually don't have them but then again you said purebred, and with purebreds they usually get genetic diseases so I could've been wrong. It depends on your cat's family tree. I'm not sure if you can do it now since it's been so long, but if it's possible at all you should ask your cat's breeder to see if the parents have similar diseases.
Cats can have raw chicken bones as long as they have the teeth and jaw strength to do so! It MUST be raw because cooked bones of any kind could splinter and hurt her. You may also want to have her transitioned to raw because she will need to get used to eating raw meat and bone beforehand. I also recommend using probiotics because it'll help the stomach kill any bacteria on the chicken. Suitable bones for cats can also be bones from quail bird, Cornish hen, rabbit ribs, rabbit feet, whole prey day old baby chicks, whole prey mice, and lamb rib chops. You can stick with just chicken bone is you want to though! Raw meaty bone also supplies minerals and some vitamins! Be sure not to give her too much bone either, cat's on average need 6% raw meaty bone in their diet (can be more or less depending what works for your cat), too much bone can make her constipated. You may have to do some math to determine this, I'll use my cat as an example. She is at a healthy weight and weighs 15 pounds, she has a decent bit of exercise (little to no exercise or overweight is 1.5%, medium, light exercise is 2%, heavy and long exercise is 3%) a day so I do 15 x 0.02 = 0.3, 0.3 pounds (converting into ounces to make it easier) or 4.8 ounces. She eats 5 ounces of food (I round it up) a day. But to get the amount of bone she needs I need to do 6% of 5 which is 0.3 ounces of bone.
Yes, but if they did no one would buy it, considering they care more more profits than pets and their owners, who would by a food that says "First ingredients corn, wheat, and soy", they only say what benefits them.
Darn that sucks, but hopefully you can find another vet to help you, some also don't believe in kibble, but they are hard to find.
I can't believe they lied to you! Rice isn't bad but it's not good either, it's especially bad at this amount, the only time someone should be feeding rice is if your cat is having general stomach upset, a BIT can help (maybe a plain rice ball the size of a coin). Rice is a carb which cats don't need, so it should be kept at an minimum, like a treat every once in a while. Rice also doesn't have much nutritional value, it's an empty filler. It's also high on the glycemic index, which could put your cat at risk for obesity or diabetes. According to FelineLiving.net and Cat Time.com, rice shouldn't be over 25% the overall diet. Funny their website says they formulate recipes with vets, but shouldn't good vets know this? 🤔
She might have to be transitioned to a new diet, but it sounds hard because it seems she loves the old food so much, her usual food should be mixed into her new one (if you plan on switching brands). Her stomach must be very sore and painful. 🙁 I have read that toxins, chemical irritants, metal poisoning, or spoiled food can cause gastritis, so although I may not be a vet, I would definitely link this problem with her food. Does her meowing sound like she is uncomfortable or normal? Is it getting better or worse within the past week?
Hopefully she isn't. Maybe she just likes going out at night lol. If you do find out what she does please update me. 😊
Raw is very easy, the only hard part is making sure its balanced nutritionally. Fortunately, commercial raw food exists so you don't have to worry about defiencies or overloads! They are usually affordable and can be found online and sometimes in store! Some brands I have used for my cat (and dog) are Stella and Chewy's, Primal, and Dr. Marty's. There are many other brands but those are what I am used to feeding when I don't feel like doing homemade. When I do homemade I do use butcher off cuts and a couple things at the grocery store as it is cheaper than buying the same meat online. Cats on average need 84% muscle meat, 6% bone, 5% liver, and 5% second secreting organ, you can add a bit of seeds, vegetables, and fruits as it can be beneficial, I usually add fermented blueberries and cranberries, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flaxseed, hempseed, some broccoli and bell pepper. Whole prey is considered balanced as it has all the meat, organs, blood and such your cat needs, some prey may have more or less nutrients depending on animal, how they were fed, age, gender, and if they wild or not (wild has more nutrients). If you are using pork (pork is more like to have parasites, if you're using human grade pork don't worry to much, freeze 2 weeks), wild, or game meat (wild caught salmon, rabbit, quail, deer, mice, etc.), it must be frozen at -4 degrees Fahrenheit for a month. I know vets are vets and wouldn't give just anything over but gosh. There's no meat besides bi products. I know the raw food diet is so so expensive now a days... so ish less expensive is kibble. The vet will not check our cat if his thyroid is low or why he keeps gaining weight even with all the playing we do with him and exercises. So they just give this vet food brand. I just hate it so so much it smells so so bad. If they can make raw food diet a little cheaper would be awesome. Some people told me their cat lost weight on it and had more energy. Thank you for the video. I'm just so over our cat's food brand. 😩

My cats have been healthy on dry food. It is high quality 97% protein based though. Farmina N & D.

Then I hope they get plenty of water because dry food diets can completely wreck their urinary tract.

Is it okay to alternate food like wet food one day and the next dry food?

Alternating foods is great in general, but if it's possible for you (which it most probably is) you shouldn't feed any dry food. However it's great to switch between different wet or raw foods and have variety in those

I just don’t know. My old cat died of kidney failure. But she also had allergies and a respiratory disorder. She died before she turned 16. My new cat is a healthy cat with no medical conditions. Hill’s and Royal Canine make her breath smell fresh (& oaty), wet foder & even ground meat or chicken, makes her breath & fecese smell like death. I bought my new cat from a breeder who has bred Sacred Birma since the 90’s & her cats live to be 16-18years. I’d like these cats to live forever, but in nature, they live up to 5 years.

have you try Royal Canin? Royal Canin is one of the world's most popular and most well-respected pet food brands. Along with Hill's Pet Nutrition, Royal Canin is the food most often recommended by veterinarians. Some say that Royal Canin veterinary diets save lives. Generally, customers like Royal Canin, and their cats like it, i feed my cat wet food few times a week on add to dry food and no its not cheap royal canion cost about 60$ , im sorry but if i want my cat to eat that fresh as you mention then better release it to wild and let it feed like it should be, with all respect i disagree with your video =/

Did you know that Hill’s prescription foods don’t actually have medicine in it as advertised (this tells you all you need to know about their brand. They’re willing to lie and make you think they’re better because their prescription but they’re no different from regular food)? If you wanted your cat to eat ‘that fresh’ they would just be eating as cats should. And why wouldn’t you want your beloved animal to eat as their ancestors have proved best for them? That’s like saying why would you feed a pet snake mice if you aren’t going to release it into the wild. Dry food was made for the convenience of the owner, not for the best interest of the cat. It leads to urinary issues and obesity in cats. Also, this isn’t an opinion video really, it’s her sharing factual information. (I’m not saying definitely feed a raw diet either but definitely wet food and it doesn’t have to be royal canin since you were talking about how expensive it is. Also try feeding with a company that has had less recalls)
In my opinion, there are better wet foods than Hill’s, Purina, and Royal Canin for a lower price but those brands are the foods vets learn about in school (no hate to them since those companies are what fund and make the schools) and so those are also the only foods they ever recommend. Just do your own research before trusting what people (even me and the video and even the ‘popular reviews’) tell you automatically 💜 The research speaks for itself. Just like how we have to advocate for our own selves at the doctors, you need to advocate for your animals.

Haha my 13 year old cat lived fine on dry cat food all her llfe. She only likes purina brand, I tried every fucking cat diet on her. She only cares for purina brand cat food and a bit of chicken pate. She is still normal weight, still piss and shit like normal.
