    Really excellent, faithful tone on this one. I'm especially glad that you emphasized to make it your own and presented different options. As an intermediate bassist I've finally started to let go of playing it the "right" way. You can play the octaves, you can play the chugging 8th notes, you can add whatever articulation that you enjoy! Cheers friend

      Wow! I really appreciate the appreciation. We play these cover tunes because because they touch us in some way just as they are. But as you picked up on, we can sometimes add our own seasoning to change the taste a bit and hopefully present our own flavor. Thanks for the great comment!

    Fantastic Video, being a true blue Aussie I fully approve, heheh. Oh and not sure about the Grizzly Adams comments, I think you'd make a fantastic Ned Kelly :)

    Hopefully you can still respond to comments but I’m just beginning and wonder why all the bass teachers are wearing headphones - is it for a metronome a drum track original song or a monitor for your own playing? Question, how would you synchronize the metronome with the song?

    • @leondcarpenter
      @leondcarpenter  10 місяців тому +1

      Still responding. The way I record is directly into my DAW (I use Studio One) where I have the track that I am playing along to. The headphones are so I can hear it all since there is no sound in the room. Quite simple really. Happy to answer any other questions.

      @@leondcarpenter Thanks, I am just getting back into it & the tech is overwhelming - playing along with music I grew up to in the 80s. Back then I jammed with some guys and it was my bass with a cable straight into a Fender Bassman 70-watt 410 amp and that was that. We had some good times but never really gigged, though people came over for house parties all the time to watch us jam.
      Nowadays, I just call the name of a song on Alexa that I’ll either have played before or worked off of UA-cam instructional for a bit then give it a spin. I do have a pedal and an amp that have a DI interface, and I’m starting to read up so I can get my first DAW. I have GarageBand on my iPad, but do you need something more real that goes into like a real computer? Any suggestions for a basic one for starters? I’m interested enough that I’ll learn it…
      Just watched another YT vid on everything you need to start up your first home studio. It’s so simple yet involved all @ once!

      I use a Line 6 Toneport interface but any A to D (analog to Digital) interface is what you want. Crazy variety so start simple and cheap. Get a system down and then upgrade if needed. So many options. Have fun with it!

    Just came from a cover of this song where the dude just mechanically picked up and down with 0 regard to timing or emphasis on certain notes so this is great to see! Yes, it looks like the same note over and over again and that’s technically correct but the timing and emphasis have to be correct or it’s gonna sound like shit.
    Great cover! And awesome set up and basses, the clear one is fucking dope

      There is more finesse in this song than people realize. I’m glad you recognize that. Thanks for the compliments on the basses. Oddly enough, I just traded the acrylic 5-string for a nice mitre saw with my buddy. No regrets. I cut more than I play a 5-string. 🤔

    Great song!...well done. What bass guitar are you using?

    • @leondcarpenter
      @leondcarpenter  4 роки тому

      Thanks, Enrique! I am fond of Schecter guitars. The one I am playing in this video is the Hellraiser Extreme 4 with the 18v active system. The green one on the wall is a Diamond Series Omen 4 that I customized myself. Thanks for tuning in!!

    Very cool. Wanna share your Boss settings for this one?

    • @leondcarpenter
      @leondcarpenter  4 роки тому

      Well... my GK is pretty flat and I use a bunch of compression and EQ as a foundation on the Boss and then add some delay and Chorus. That would be a lot of settings to share. Then there is the awesome pre on my Hellraiser that also helps shape my tone. Is there something specific you are trying to understand or just looking to try to duplicate the tone?

    • @budgetbasscovers
      @budgetbasscovers 4 роки тому

      @@leondcarpenter Gotcha, I was interested in coming close to the tone, but no need if there are more than a few dials to turn lol

    • @leondcarpenter
      @leondcarpenter  4 роки тому

      Scott Hutchinson okay. So, I use heavy compression to hide my pick attack, level off my volumes and provide lots of sustain (which I can counter with the expression pedal). The EQ is to taste and that would be individual to you as it is effected by your axe and your head. I wanted a tone that was spacey and full so I added some chorus for that spacey sound and then some delay (echo) to fill it out and make it full.
      I love the GT-10B and I also have its predecessor the GT-6B. There is so much flexibility. It’s packed up right now for travel to rehearsals but maybe I can shoot a video of the settings sometime to share with you. That may be an efficient way to go. Otherwise, find a preset that you like, write it to a user patch and tweak away!
