One thing I'm fond of it the car has an aux cord is for the driver to hook up their iPod/MP3 player, hand it over to the passenger, and let them pick what plays. This can be a good way to find out about each others commonalities and tastes that might not have come up before, and it also lets the passenger choose whether they want to try something new or listen to something they know they love. This is, of course, assuming your collection isn't all niche and obscure stuff, and has a mix of more popular music and highly personal favorites. Since the person writing in likes Kayne, Gambino, and Weezer, than probably won't be a problem.
My very first date was when i was 14. There was this girl I had seen around school, she was the take no shit type of chick, dyed her hair black, spikey cuffs on her wrist and i was into the fact she scared me a little. Anyway, we're grouped together in our photography class, and I've always been shy, introverted, consumed with anxiety and she was always so loud with her raspy voice so i never had the guts to approach her properly but we hit it off immediately after I heard she was into Dinosaur Jr and I told her I was into Jawbreaker. That day she approached me walking out of the school gate to go out with her after school. I said yeah, we just loitered in the city and then saw a movie. I can't remember what we watched together but I was stoked she held my hand. the movie ended, I didn't know what to expect but outside the cinema in the car park, she kissed me. Not gonna lie, i was scared as fuck. Didn't know what i was doing. A lot of moisture. And then there was a pain in the side of my head. I was on the floor, not really moving more so due to the shock than the pain. A ripped dude in his twenties is shouting something at me, I'm still dazed don't know what to do and this guy kicks the shit out of me. Turns out it was her brother, he was some state level kick boxer and had seen us kissing and decided to be overly protective for some reason. Not a great first date. Wasn't the end though. We continued to see each other but i bailed when she wanted me to take her virginity in a cemetery.
Congrats Myke. I know people always talk about how you have cool opinions and stuff, but I think it's just as much about you being patient and open enough to talk about them on camera and present them in an interesting way. Anyway keep it up!
Congrats Myke! You deserve all those subs. Extremely entertaining channels. Love these new things you're doing like WDYWTK and the film thingy. I've been an avid vinyl collector since 1976 when punk came out. Been buying records ever since and God I have to say that you guys in the US don't know how lucky you are! Not only do you amazing choices but cheap too. Cheers James, Manchester, UK
Hey Myke, what's the song playing in the background at 6:00? Sounds nice. Also, could you talk about COIL at some point? I know you like C93 and that you have a COIL shirt, and it's always good to see people who listen to COIL. Great advice, man!
for anyone stuck on the whole music in the car on a first date dilemma, I've found that playing Kali Uchis' album/mixtape "Por Vida" in the background is the best option for me, every girl I've showed her to loves her voice, it's not explicit, and it's a great background soundtrack to listen to while you get to know her music preferences. Myke congrats on 15k man, it's only going to go up from here!
Congrats on 15k, Myke! almost typed 50k :P I told my friends already, heh. will never forget finding the VC through you :D Laughed a few times in this video... first with the buying jeans comment... valentino mussolini botticelli, bwah! cracking up still! I need it on a loop! makes me think of when I say "Oooo AG jeans, I think Oprah wore them!" I had a thing for name brands or well pricey items at one point, but I try to save it for special occasions now / buy on clearance so I can afford more music :P That ending story... have no words! bwah!
I saw an article on facebook that said that the bigger your record collection the bigger the chance you will end up lonely. I'm twenty nine and other than my dad pressuring me too keep the last name alive, I'm starting to think that it might be my case because I havn't found a girlfriend that has the same passion for music in general. No I'm not asking for someone who is 100% compatible with my music taste because just having a couple artist in common is enough for a lifetime of great passionate music conversations and happiness. As long as you are genuinely passionate about your taste in music and you can live without the radio. Am I trippin??? (Sorry for the rant)
Hey's my couple hundred dollars on affording vinyl: 1) Get a Discogs account 2) Explore all the Thrift Stores you can 3) Go to one new record store every Friday (or two) after work (and just buy one record you really want) Over the span of a couple months, you'll figure out which thrift and record stores are worth your times as well as Discogs to get what you can't find. Amazon works too, but really only go there for new releases and what not. Personally, I'm not a fan of Ebay, Offer Up, Craigslist, etc.
This shit was hilarious, Myke. I love these WDYWK videos. This video might actually come in handy for me soon so thanks. Like the Ceschi shirt btw. I agree with you on his new album btw, it was incredible.
Dude, it's awesome that you mention Wuxtry Records! I'm friends with the guy who runs it, John Kiran Fernandes. I first went in there when I was 6, and I asked for a specific record by Camille Saen-Sans or something like that, and he was just like "Yeah, man!" Check him out, he's in, like, 8 bands around the Athens, Georgia area. Always awesome supporting independent record stores!
Great video, Myke. Here's a story about the importance of appropriate car music - last year I went out with this gal and I had Freddie Gibbs' piñata on. For the most part, I had the volume low and we were talking over it. Then, in a natural conversation lull, robes comes on and Gibbs spits his line about the Filipino girl flying to him la. My date was not about that shit at all. She asked me, "is that what this is?" And I thought she was joking. But she wasn't. Shit was weird after that.
You just gotta play what you feel and rock it out, I usually just bang some loud ass trap music for a reaction tbh. You can play with the reaction no matter what it is.
No thank you Myke! i`m sure i`m not alone when i say that i`ve discovered a shitload of music because of you and i will be forever grateful for that. that date story was hilarious, made my day XD
I have about 1300 Lps and as of late I am oraganizing them, slimming Down the Collection so what remains on my in-house shelf are only good, valueable or interesting records. Felt I was getting overrun by a bit too much of the stuff that only takes up Place and is never played. When I am finished I will take a skimmy through the boxes to see if I have put away too much if the shelves allow some titles to Return. Vinyl collecting can become a bit of a bitch if you don`t think straight when purchasing records.
On your Vinyl Collection 4 video, you mentioned that Comus' First Utterance was easily in your top 25 albums of all time. From that, I have listened to that albums too many times to mention. What other albums would you say are in your top 25 of all time (you don't have to do 25 if you don't want to), across all genres? (They don't have to be related to Comus, I just enjoy your recommendations)
Valentino Mussolini Butocelli jeans would probably cost more than $300, don't underestimate the quality/price of a jean if it is made by a guy with that kind of name.
I don't want to sound like a dick saying this but I'm guessing the majority of people watching this are a bit younger than you, like in their mid 20s or so, so they just haven't spent as much time building a music collection so far. I'd say as well as all the things you mentioned, a big part of it is time. No one should expect to get as many records as you do all at once.
Do you set a strict budget for records? I try to stick to an annual max personnaly... working so far. And if it's alright to ask, what's the most you ever spent on a record? Oh and are you going to RSD?
Marc A. Nah. I just try to keep an eye on what I spend and not get too crazy. And yeah, I'm planning on going to RSD but I'll be in LA. So it kinda depends. Not sure what the most is that I ever spent. Probably one of my Current 93 records.
What are your thoughts on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? I know you've been critical of Kanye's work but I thought I remembered you saying you loved MBDTF.
I think it's really up to both of you to be laughing it off, I made that mistake at a date once when my girlfriend at the time said something silly and instead of laughing I was really straightfaced about it and she was so embarrassed. I think if I'd teased her a little about it or something it would have eased the tension. You have to show it's okay in some way, or it's all on them to react or not react and that's no fun.
Can you help me? I went and bought my first 2 vinyl records of Sadistik from sadistik.bigcartel.com I went and bought Phantom Limbs and the $40 LP gold metallic Altars record. I just got the package today and the Phantom Limbs record was flawless and still wrapped in cellophane. The Altars record was in a plastic sleeve, I slid the record from it, noticed a couple dings on the cover, noticed a small tear on the side. Slipped the record from the cover and the label has a tear around the middle hole of the record. I'm just wondering if you purchased that album for $40, would you expect it to be still sealed in cellophane wrap just like the Phantom limbs album? Should I contact the company and tell them about this or is it a normal thing where you buy brand new records and they come already opened?
That's so hilarious that you've mentioned Mayhem as not a good kind of music for a ride with a lady (Marduk would totally kill it :-D). _____but if the girl is German or East European and dresses in black you might get her in the mood with some Nightwish :-P
Play Death Grips Pss Pss in the car
I predict a catastrophe or Fuck Me Out ;3
+I predict a catastrophe Nothing turns a girl on more than having MC Ride scream at her

Owen W Yo that's a great Idea! Noted!
Owen W Great idea, man! I never thought of the whole handing it to her thing.
I couldn't stop laughing during that story. I literally woke my girl up. lolol.
Anyway, great video, as always, and congrats on 15K, my friend!
Kanyon Bickel Hahaha! I'm stoked you enjoyed it! And thanks, dude!!! Tell your girl I'm sorry....kinda.
Kanyon Bickel does Maggie fart?
This came up in my recommended videos, I started watching for the vinyl, stayed for the fart jokes.
Incredible.

That fart story had me in tears!!!😂😂😂
Congrats Myke. I know people always talk about how you have cool opinions and stuff, but I think it's just as much about you being patient and open enough to talk about them on camera and present them in an interesting way. Anyway keep it up!

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Best story EVER! I had a great day today, and as I'm watching this right before bed, you just put the cherry on the cake. Thanks, Myke.
Aye you should do a throwback review for cannibal ox's cold vein. I know you love that El-P production and enigmatic shit, so it'd be dope.

Story was great, have not laughed like that in a while!
You just gotta play what you feel and rock it out, I usually just bang some loud ass trap music for a reaction tbh. You can play with the reaction no matter what it is.

I feel like New Order playing in the car on a first date would be good
I have about 1300 Lps and as of late I am oraganizing them, slimming Down the Collection so what remains on my in-house shelf are only good, valueable or interesting records. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS I AM ROLLINGGG
LMAO at the Big poppa diddy reference
Hey man, what’s the next show you’re going to? I live in Atlanta as well and would love to meet more vinyl lovers such as myself
LOL i'm watching this today. Worst (funniest) first date ever XD
On your Vinyl Collection 4 video, you mentioned that Comus' First Utterance was easily in your top 25 albums of all time. From that, I have listened to that albums too many times to mention. Myke C-Town Ah ok! Well I hope your trip to LA will be fruitful on all grounds and that it'll contribute to a vinyl update.
lmfaooooooooo yooooo this shitttttt had me rollinnnnnnnnn
What are your thoughts on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? I know you've been critical of Kanye's work but I thought I remembered you saying you loved MBDTF.
My city have one small record store. In comparision to US, there are no big cities in Sweden, otherwise it would probably be another story.
What happened to the video of the Gothenburg's metal scene that I requested?
Have you ever seen Suspiria before?
4 years later and he reached 55k subs
Idk if he gets this a lot, but Myke sounds like Elliot Hulse from Strengththecamp lol
First date: I'd play NIN - Closer
Your first date story was hilarious. I honestly never heard someone fart like that before.
Necro Lee Me either. Not since either. The longest highest-pitched fart ever.
That also reminds me of this scene: /watch?v=lF8SzEiXARA
Necro Lee I've never seen that movie but that was pretty hilarious!
So what's your opinion on Love Story, man?
nice transitions lol
I think it's really up to both of you to be laughing it off, I made that mistake at a date once when my girlfriend at the time said something silly and instead of laughing I was really straightfaced about it and she was so embarrassed. Damn hilarious story. 😁😂
you at 55k subs now !
PEACE Myke. How big is your vinyl collection?
Great story. XD

Man, you dating yourself saying you was going to go see Friday on that first date. I wasn't even born yet!
i come back once every couple months to hear that fucking fart story hahahaaha never fails to crack me up

No, not all records come sealed. But there is an expectation that everything you get should show up without damage. I'd message the company.
The fart noise fam 💀💀💀
On the other hand, if she's still interested after you played De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in the car, she's a keeper.
LMAO at your first date story.
Lmao great Fuckin story myke! Made my Fuckin Sunday no lie.

That's so hilarious that you've mentioned Mayhem as not a good kind of music for a ride with a lady (Marduk would totally kill it :-D). _____but if the girl is German or East European and dresses in black you might get her in the mood with some Nightwish :-P
Martin Knap Uh...there's no way I'd have Nightwish on my iPod. Eeew.
Myke C-Town C'mon, at least you must have some Tarja Turunen solo album ;-)
Martin Knap Nope. Sorry, dawg!
Myke C-Town at least say that you have HIM, or that like them just a tiny bit.
Martin Knap Of course. HIM is one of my all-time favorite bands.
Sup
That one thumbs down, it was probably that girl...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Music in the car. Put the radio on.
xwhite2020 Worst advice ever.
Myke C-Town JJJ Australia - Everyone has a deep love and appreciation for it. Also government owned. Radio must be terrible in most places.
xwhite2020 Yes it's terrible in America. There are some good public radio stations, but that's it...
...but what if she smells like butternut squash and devil's fart?
If I was in a date and the person farted I think I wouldn't talk for the rest of the night.
Man, hahaha, that story tho ;'D
Props for correcting "vinyls" I cringe every time I hear someone say that. It's like saying mices. Just say vinyl or records
Ben Prendergast Mices. Hahaha!
if you're young i'd say go for coffee not dinner. cheaper and more chill
StokeCityFC44 True. Great idea.
