Cartesian robot with vertical T-Bot drive configuration

- This is a custom designed cartesian robot destined for a liquid handling application. It's built around our LC40 family of belt driven linear stages (see www.zaber.com/products/famili...) and uses what's known as a T-Bot configuration for the Z axis to avoid the weight and wiring nightmare of having to raise and lower the Z-axis motor. The configuration we implemented is a little different from typical T-Bots you may see where the belt is anchored to the vertical column and there is a motor on either side of the horizontal column. Keeping all the motors on one side simplifies the wiring. Enjoy.

Cool. Took me a couple watches to see what was going on. Your y axis is a regular belt stage, and only one motor is in the t-bot loop instead of the normal 2. That's smart.
Pretty awesome!
that's cool, what's it used for? looks like a pick and place machine for light objects
Do you have any examples of this set up on a rotary gantry? It would be really nice in videos like this if you'd mention basic load handling, deflection, etc. ranges. I like the old school approach to a video you are taking, I hope you make more
Nice i like this.
Ia it advisable to use thia type setup fir a plasma CNC machine?
Yes, this type of setup could be used for plasma CNC. However, plasma CNC requires less Z axis travel. Some plasma CNC machines have no motorized Z axis at all. So a different mechanism may make more sense for that axis, if needed.
What is the price of such build and what are you using to program it?
@MrTheAgge Thanks for your interest. For ballpark pricing of individual linear axes, see www.zaber.com/products/linear-stages. This was assembled from our LC40 family of belt driven linear stages with some additional components and customization. We have software libraries supporting many popular programming languages including Python, C#, C++, Javascript, Java, Labview, Matlab, etc. See www.zaber.com/software for the full list and API documentation.
Thank you so much for the quick reply. One more question; What is the combined repeatability and is it possible to get it below +-0.01mm@@ZaberTech
You could build your own tiny model of the Death Star trench and recreate the POV of Luke’s X-Wing. Of course, then you’d need a motion control gimbal on the camera mount as well.
