Nice video! Hopper shots are oddly satisfying to watch in my opinion. But the Maxon/Gomez packer is really flawed with the single piece sloped panel design. A lot of that spillage and repeat cycling could have been avoided if the blade featured a type of plow shaped anti climber to prevent debris from bubbling over the top of the packer.
It truly drove me nuts to watch being a Heil Half Pack driver. No matter how full I've been I've never had that much boiling over. I pack my first load out til it won't pass the clean out door every day and sometimes the second load as well. I bet this packer design is just awful for recycling routes.
Agreed! That packer blade really needs some form of an "anti-climber" installed on it, somehow some way, as it seems that it requires too many 'repeat" packing cycles in order to get the job done. (I actually seen one such "anti-climber" built into packer blade's design before. The design of the one I once saw was comprehensible in stopping the contents from climbing as it packs. Hydraulic cylinders are set up in the "X design.")
A top panel that could fold over and hold the waste in place so that the packer spends more time packing than Moving trash upwards, it would also fix the over flow problems
Awesome to watch, a very entertaining 10mins! It's one thing to see the blade clearing the hopper in an effortless 2-3 cycles, but it's something else when you know it's actually packing hard and the cylinders aren't completing their full extension. I loved watching the rubbish creeping up the blade as it went further into the body, and then gradually falling back down into the newly created void. Pretty intense engine sound, that scream of the pump is full on and you have to appreciate the change in tone as the hydraulics come under high load during compaction, before that instant relief when the packer is retracted. I think an awesome part was around 3:55 when those sheets of fibreboard or whatever dropped right down into the path of the packing face and you could see them being pushed along into the point of the body with the highest load density, along with the other material almost bounced out of the way and curved upwards. I know the hopper floor is better protected by leaving garbage to cushion the fall of incoming loads, but I would've loved to have seen some 100% hopper clearances where everything was rammed away into the body, so you could clearly see the actual compaction on the lower end of all the action. Still a very enjoyable watch regardless, nice to see this kind of perspective on an FL when it pops up sometimes, so this definitely found its way into my favourites =] I swear the hopper cover stopped way too short at the end, or is that actually the full amount it seals the hopper on this truck? hahaha Then you come to my side of the world and on most the trucks it's twin hopper lids opened and closed for every bin - you'd need a proper bird's eye view to achieve a video like this!
I like the best thing about this video that at 6:41 the pillow manages to escape from being squeezed harder and harder between the garbage bags for a day I always think it's sad for pillows and mattresses that they hug all nights after years just being put on the road without pity to be slowly pressed flat in a garbage truck
Awesome video Eli! Always enjoyed these types of videos from you! Never know how much a FL can pack till you see something like this. Love the sound of the truck and the packing shots were awesome! Amazing work!
Now that was sick, very nice work dude! Glad you had more footage of this truck, I was watching your video of this truck the other day and the hopper shots are always so fun to watch. The clip at 6:40 and the other ones after that had me so anxious lol, I was shocked that more stuff didn’t fall over the blade. Reasons like that are why I love front loader hopper shots so much. Plus that hopper cover was a nice touch as well, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on a Maxon being used. Very entertaining upload bro!
Thanks for the comment! These types of videos sure are fun to watch and definitely leave you anxious with some parts when stuff starts to spill over behind the blade. Glad you found the hopper cover interesting too!
Does the truck operator have some form of a camera so to determine when to reverse the packer blade's action so to prevent, or reduce, the contents from spilling over it?
I can pack a FEL SOLO on the fly at 40 mph, can’t do that with a REL. I can also put 16 dry ton on my mcneilus curotto truck, but only 14 wet on a mcneilus rel
Great video!! I'm a sucker for Hopper vids, so this was beyond entertaining to watch! 😀 I've recently never seen a Hopper Cover being deployed - didn't know they existed!
This compactor makes me think of stationary reciprocating ram compactors. The ram plate facedesign forces the material up rather than down into the charge box where it gets compacted. The stationary ones have a flat face ram so the stuff doesn’t go up. Interesting to see how these work. Normally the compaction mechanism isn’t seen in FL trucks.
Nice video! Being a front loader driver for a couple months and I love it. Used to drive side arms and definitely there’s is a huge difference. It’s just amazing how much you can throw in there in just one can. Tell me about it when I spent almost 2 hrs cleaning up a can I throw behind the blade on my second day 🤢🤢🤢. It was a dunkin donuts one so do the math. Nastyyy! 💩 happens.... Be safe !
Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed the video. Cleaning behind the packer blade sure seems like a nightmare especially after a heavy and wet load. But it’s work that’s gotta be done!
A low height blade with a follower could have prevented that or at least decreased the magnitude of spillage but yikes that does not sound fun. Usually most front loaders stop the arms halfway up if the packer is not in the stow position. What model do you drive? I do not know what is worse, wet restaurant waste or a full fledged couch behind the packer. (I have witnessed that)
Wow awesome catch !!! I particulary like that we've seen a Victoria's Secret bag get packed and also in the last part that box with a women picture on. Haha I wish we would have seen this one get packed as well, but he closed the door instead cause it was full.
Thanks for this... Was searching high and low for a Hopper video yesterday. Subscribed to you and "Boom!" Can you get Hopper video of the Republic trucks that serve the Compton area? Had one pick up green waste trash can full of thick tree branches. Wondered how it crushed them up...
Loved the overhead shots and that classic Maxon scream. I don't think I'd like that blade though, doesn't seem to do well once the body is loaded. Still, a good watch though.
If homie actually cleared the hopper this would've gone much more smoothly. The Maxon blade sucks on cardboard but packs a hell of a garbage load. If you know what you're doing that is.
I don't understand why the driver doesn't use the hopper cover more often, to prevent spill-over. Ya, it ruins our view but it would be more effective. Some trucks have hinged covers that stomp stuff down with every tip. I don't understand why it is not standard.
That stuff most likely goes to a landfill. In some places it would go to an incinerator, though I personally think incineration of trash is a bad idea. In places were land is at a premium it can be the most effective solution though.
@@Josh-os4qk I’m fine with recycling but just because they have a recycling system doesn’t mean people will listen. Just like how people litter when there’s already waste management.
Not efficient at compaction. The blade doesn't even go inside the enclosed portion to compact the trash further. The trash is forced upward with many cardboard boxes and bags remaining whole and not even crushed. Rear loaders are far more efficient.
what is wrong with that packer why is it not squeezing harder ???? there are no popping noises or whiseling noises even the trashbags are lauching at the packer sissy
Lots of cleaning to do behind that packer blade.
That’s for sure!
@Dr Pepper Kev When it's getting hard to pack stuff or the packer don't complete a full cycle back and fourth

Have fun shoveling. Everybody thinks front loader is easy till they gotta clean the back of the truck
Does the truck operator have some form of a camera so to determine when to reverse the packer blade's action so to prevent, or reduce, the contents from spilling over it?
If you know how to run ur blade and dump a container when the hopper is not full like that then usually not that much behind the blade.
I think rear loaders are more efficient in packing.
Yeah for Residential lmao
Yeah I think they are too not only can they pack they can crush also. front load your just packing for dear life lol.

Most trucks have them. It’s just hard to see them from street level

Anyone else get anxious when the garbage would almost fall over that edge of the blade?
I'm guessing one of the surrounding buildings went through a remodel. I saw a lot of left over materials dumped in there.
Or old furniture
How many dumpsters can you fit in 1 load before heading to the dump? Also how many dumpsters do you do in a day and how long of a shift is it?
Great footage!!
Thanks!

how many bins does this place have.....
I remember when I was a kid front loaders had a lid on top of the hopper that open each time they dumped a can
Here in Australia we have it
Less trash blowing out, but also less chance of a homeless person escaping.
Is it bad when the trash overflows into where the hydraulics are? And how do you get that out???
How many dumpsters will fit in a truck like this? They seem to hold a lot more trash than I thought!
This is a great video.
How many dumpsters can one truck take in a typical day ?

Technically it can, if it has a camera installed in it.

Were they intentionally trying to break a hose or the truck?
Why all these garbage (wood, trash, glass, plastic) are mixed together ??!

Guess I’m lucky that I have a camera in my hopper so I’m not spilling behind the blade like this guy lol
If only they made the wall steeper, would the garbage be less inclined to climb out.

Cool…….cool……..cool
The blade on this thing doesn't seem very practical.
A lot of cardboard in the first bin that should’ve been recycled
you took half the stuff in there to a uk disposal site they would have a melt down
They should have recycling system. What a waste
They can’t control what people throw away.
