Remember everyone, the amount of people that actually go to the gym is quite small, and then the number from that pool dedicated enough to hit these numbers is even smaller. If you’re hitting 3 plates or more then you’re stronger then 90% of the pop. Be proud and keep pushing for your goals
I Think a 3 plate bench is like top 99.9% of population, like you said: the majority dont even lift!
@@Tomy-im8zl There might be some construction workers out there with an untrained 315 deadlift, but I'd doubt there's anyone who can bench 315 untrained
Yup. Most people in the gym don't even lift 100kg... even after years. Most people don't follow a program or eat enough protein. They just go to the gym to lose some stress after work.
@@Tomy-im8zl the guy you replied to
@@o-neil my bad!
Shout out to the guy nearly dying on bench in the first 10 seconds in the background. Lol
Good eye. Totally missed that.
Damn if he missed those hooks by a quarter of an inch ....
It happened to me. New gym and I couldnt gauge where the hooks were. Missed them and it landed on my face. I turned my head in the nick of time so it just grazed my cheek - or else it'd crush my nose and eyes. Other people lifted it off my face
If I don’t have a good spot or safety bars, I don’t go to failure. Too dangerous.
He's the true hero here
He nearly died!
At 58 years old, body weight of 170 lbs, I hit a lifetime PR this morning. 3 plate, 315 lbs deadlift for a triple with straps. I can identifiy with this young man, even with 40 years difference in our age, it felt so good. It's never to late to get back into it.
good job man !
That's almost 2x bodyweight, good job!
Very well done mate, should be very proud 🙏
Well done!
I remember finally getting up to 315 lbs for my money set. 8 reps, and then rest-pause and a couple drops. Shoulder came undone a few days later, and my surgeon advises against going back after the heavy (for me 😝) deadlifts. Appreciate your achievements, and keep striving.
My son hit a PR of 315 a few weeks ago. He did three reps the following week. Young people are so amazing to watch develop. It is such an amazing thing to see their confidence grow because of the work they put in the gym. Heart this video, thanks!
Glad to see father supporting his son, my father always tells me to not go heavy, i know he means it in a good way to not get injured but i still want to raise that numbers, i hit 170kg deadlift today and am pretty happy about that, however i am not going to tell my father lol, have a nice day
Good for him. When starting out, it's more about learning to do lifts properly, being more confident in your strength and priming the nervous system. Then on top of that he will get beginner gains. Don't be surprised if he hits 4 plates in the next few weeks :P
@@THExJMC you are close already! He got 365 last Monday! The people that took him under their wings treat him like family. There is this yell one of them has that I swear causes his muscles to contract harder when his body is getting ready to quit. I feel bad for kids sitting at home on Monday nights playing video games when they could have that
You must be a really proud dad, I'm very happy for you
@@giorgigabritchidze2451lol same
The folks in the gym were impressed because they actually lift and know what strength progression is like.
Half of them were teenagers who probably couldn’t do that themselves. However, it’s awesome anytime somebody hits a PR.
No dude. It’s bc they’re all in high school. This weight isn’t impressing any adults.
@@phil5037 Perfectly stated by someone who doesn't know what strength progression looks like.
@@tylerrichlen3286 Perfectly stated by someone who can't pull this weight.
@@phil5037 Ah cupcake, pull yer head out. 315 for a person whose never lifted is a milestone. For someone overcoming injury or age etc. You being a beta male trying to sound tough in a comment section doesn't impress anyone. Cope.
As a small guy myself 65kg, I just hit 150kg and haven't really felt proud of myself at all, so this definitely helps.
Thats really good! You should be proud!
Great job man
You should be proud of every single PR you hit. There will come a day where you will hit your last PR ever. Savor them.
Most people struggle to lift up a tv or even to get up off their back.
150kgs is great, if anyone ever collapsed around you I bet you could pick them up and save them.
That's real, that's usefull, that's stength.
You are strong bro. Keep going. Next attempt 155kg.
hit a 408 deadlift pr a few months ago and fell into the trap of comparing myself to stronger people I know, but now I realize that I have gotten so much stronger in these past few years and am proud of my progress!
i was at my first power meet and deadlifted 500 on my third attempt, got it white lighted and was happy af.
Next guy deadlifted 580 and i was absolutely shattered 😂 but you are right, never compare yourself to others. 408 is great, 500 is great, everything is good.
There's always a bigger fish out there. Take pride in your hard work
Keep your eyes focused on yourself. Remember we all have different journeys.
We all started some place in our journey and big kudos to that young man pulling 3 wheels! As a competitive powerlifter myself, its great to see young people in a gym instead of laying around in the house.
facts
I remember hitting a 100KG deadlift for the first time after 3 failed attempts in the same session, and now I can do 200KG for 4 reps. It's the development that's really inspiring, not just the number!
Amazing. I just hit a 250kg deadlift and people think I’m gifted in the gym. I still remember tweaking my back the second time I hit 100kg (which seemed soooo heavy then lol) and before that almost feinting when I started at 60kg years and years and years ago (I started at 50kg. For a dude omg). Slow and steady wins the race, you’ll get way stronger than you think possible if you stick with it!
@@trogdortheburninator8149 250kg from 50kg oh my! Fantastic bro, literally 5x your deadlift over the years.
@@HazzaT02 thank you! 6 years so definitely slow and steady but with time and consistency etc..
@@trogdortheburninator8149 took me 4 months to hit 233kg, crazy how everybody is different
Your spine will hate you after some years
When I hit a 180kg deadlift I went nuts, I was so happy! I wish my natural strength meant I could just throw up 250kg the first time I ever deadlifted. Unfortunately it took me years to get to 180kg and a lot of perseverance. 200kg coming soon!
I finally hit 200kg after a few years of stop/start lifting a few months ago. Was more of a mental block than anything at that point. Hit 215 a month later, but man it felt good to get it up that first time. You'll get it bro. Keep pulling
@@Leigh666XF 200 kg was a golden line for me too. Needed month to hit that, after it i only needed a few weeks to go up to 220 kg too. Keep going mate
took me 3 deadlift sessions and i only weigh 71kg
all progress is something pretty amazing, we have to account for that. 90% of people going to the gym are just going through the motions and not training to improve, training to get better is really difficult and takes quite a lot of critical thinking and experimentation
So true, the body is like a reflection of the persons gym knowledge and experience
even tho on the internet we see the best of the best deadlifting huge weights, i've never seen anyone deadlift more than me in real life. (180kg) it's super rare to see anyone deadlift even 100kg. congrats for him and anyone who grinds in the gym and reaches this guy's weights.
100kg is rare? I did it on my first try, I only discovered deadlifting after years of working out tho..
@@kalb390that's the whole point. Very few people stay consistent with their workout plan
@@kalb390 Don't be like that dude. Don't be this stereotypical gymbro who thinks whatever he does on the first try everyone should be able to do also. Most of the commercal gym population is like old people, fat people, kids, women. Why would you think 100kg isn't rare, that's a lot of weight lol
Bro got the whole gym watching him with 3 plates, but when I put on 5 plates nobody bats an eye lol
😂😂 I hear that!
Thank you for this video. The internet at times makes it seem as though anyone can walk into a gym, and six months later bench 500, pull 700, run a 4.4 40, and jump so high they can touch the rim with their head at 5'4. It's refreshing to see real videos of real people doing their best and working hard. Kudos to this young man !
Your channel is great because it never discourages ones from lifting. Many channels, ones that are genuinely great and that I love to support, still occasionally give off 'overachiever' vibes and set very high standards that are not always reasonable.
As a 16 year old who has been lifting for a total of 13 months now and is at 250lbs, my numbers in my lifts have gone up quite a bit!
Deadlift: 185 > 425
Squat: 185 > 365
Bench: 115 > 235
Even though I can lose about 50lbs before I start having a nice lean physique, I feel that my progress is good, and I do compare myself to my top lifters at my school.
Comparison can be a thief of joy, but if used properly and in moderation, can make your motivation skyrocket and your confidence higher! Great video 💪🏼
Nice! I agree with your last statement.
Thanks for this, just hit 151kg yesterday at 62kg bodyweight and my friends think it's just okay when they weigh 110kg pulling 200 kg lol. Keep this up!
I mean unless you're in a meet with weight classes why does bodyweight matter?
That used to be me when I was younger. All of my friends were stronger than me yet weighed 20 kg -30 kg more than me. Now I´m 46 still slim and workout while they are fat and diabetic. I used to want to gain weight (I´m 69 kg). Now I am perfectly happy and proud of my weight. 160 kg is my deadlift 1 RM, but I rarely go that high. I prefer to do reps with 143 kgs.
@@Lee-ic2yn cause it shows how strong you are pound for pound obviously
@@Lee-ic2yn what kind of a dumbass question is that?
@@Lee-ic2yn It's considerably more impressive if someone is hitting almost 3x bodyweight than someone pulling 200kg and it not even being 2x their bodyweight.
yeah that's true people always watching the top ones with insane numbers, but amateur people can impress too, i'am lifting 230 kg deadlift at my gym and it's not casual in there, the % of people who can lift the same numbers is little in the area you can live
Exactly, a 500 lbs deadlift is still quite rare in the average gym. Something to be proud of.
In most commercial gyms the standard to impress is still 2 plate bench 3 plate squat 4 plate deadlift
@@ourboyhemingwaywhat? No it’s not, that’s top 1%.
I have never seen anyone in my gym hit a 4 plate deadlift, ever.
@@ourboyhemingway I'm probably strongest in my gym when it comes to bench and it's 315 lol. But there's also a gym from the same franchise, in diffrent location where i witnessed 600+ bench, and i got humbled pretty quickly
@@soonahero I’m not sure where your gym is or the details, but I promise you on my life 405lb deadlift is not top 1%
The nod of approval from the guy in black was 🤌
As long as you're working hard. It doesn't matter how much weight you're lifting. Everyone starts at the beginning. Good for this kid. Well done!
Bro when I was 17 I couldn't even carry 10kg, huge respect
150 is nearly my max (BW = 59Kg) and it's pretty good for a regular gym bro. My man repping that at 17y/o is strong as hell
Thanks, this makes me feel better about myself. I can rep 175kg at this point (1RM 183 last time I tried), and I still feel weak occasionally because I can’t do 200. 😂
@@MatsVederhus you’re strong man. The internet shows the top 5-10% and I think we’re all guilty of comparing ourselves to those people.
@@MatsVederhus This feeling is legit. I haven't deadlifted in a long time but I used to be able to lift 180Kg and still felt weak af.
I think it's too easy to compare yourself to other people who are stronger than you rather than just looking at the progress you've made or even comparing to all the people who you're already stronger than.
The new goal is 200Kg and I'm like 90% sure I'll be happy with that when I get there 😂
@@mogulme6190 Thank you! 🥰
@@rsoss92js you will never be happy with it. Thats why lifting is incredible
I have a 440 squat and I was surprised to see how many people were staring at me when I did it in a commercial gym. Never compare yourself with anyone tother than yourslef
They weren't impressed they were annoyed he was slamming the weights 😂😂😂
We need more videos like this 🙏🏾💯
bravo my man ! every deadlift (conventional haha ) is a win no matter the weight
It impressed my friends who introduced to me the gym because I was able to do it at my first try
A really good video and really good influence on the comminity 🎉
I have the common issue of comparing myself to the professionals or enhanced people at my gym. My deadlift pr is 425 for a single and 376x3 at a bodyweight between 148-158, when I bring myself back to reality it’s pretty impressive and I’m proud of myself
I’m same weight and PR! I can do 385 however for 4-5 Tho. And 405 after for 3.
Lifting is you vs the bar...ignore everything else.
a few weeks ago i did 160kg 1 rep max on deadlift at 17 years old and 88.5 kg bw
I just hit PR 140kg on deadlift and i am happy with my progress. Even if it is not much for my bodyweight of 96kilos. Almost 2 years in Gym. Enjoy your progress lads and compare yourself with yourself from yesterday.
Comparison may be the thief of joy but happiness is not optimal for gains. This is why Owen Hubbard is my #1 rival even tho he totals 200kg more than me (I will be the strongest Owen in my weight class or die trying)
so far you're owen one
Good shit Cody! 🖤💪🏽💯
im 13 and i deadlift 140kg for a double, most of the people at my gym have literally never seen a 250kg+ deadlift irl and neither have i , social media standarts are real fucked up now
I lift 4 years in a very crowded gym (hundreds of people), and there is only 2 people in that range. Its quite rare
Bro, thanks. I did a 1 RM 170kg deadlift, and a 6x 150 today. Due to all the insanely strong people around rn, and certainly the availability of this information I totally forgot how impressive this is. We're all going hard, but we forget so fast that what we're doing is impressive, regardless of others doing even better. We should look more to where we came from and also remember that numbers like mine are already impressive to a lot of non-gym related people. Let's all keep pushing and bettering ourselves!
Anyone hitting their PR is impressive, regardless of the weight.
A friend started going to the gym with me like a month ago, last week he tried deadlift for the first time, did 315lbs, yday he did 365lbs, he is around 160lbs bw.
The trap of comparing yourself to others is the only reason I ever started lifting competitive level weights
A lot of young guys triying to lift heavy, But when You pass 25 yo, the pain it's ruthless
Except if you are on high gear.
what pain xd
Unless you're among the elite, it only matters how strong you are compared to where you were. There's always someone bigger and stronger. I don't worry about that.
Most people go to the gym to exercise, have fun and feel good, they don't care about chasing records. It keeps them happy and healthy, and that's just as valid as any world class lifting routine.
At first I was waiting to see him clean 150kg 😂
Great job to the young man in the video! Keep training hard and see where it takes you.
It took a while to come to terms with it but I'm happy I'm still able to pull in the 400s now that I'm almost 40 with 2 small kids. I think the top level guys getting further out of my league (in another universe now) as the years have gone by has actually made that easier.
I’m really competitive myself so it’s taken time for me to come to grips with the fact that I’m never going to be the strongest guy ever especially only weighing 155-160 lbs but I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter. Ik that I’m stronger than the average guy walking around…that’s enough for me. At this point it’s about maintains functional strength and mobility while being strong enough to protect my family or myself if it comes to that.
@@mogulme6190 Yeah it's all relative and you get to decide what you really care about, even if your brain wants to default to unrealistic comparisons that social media loves to take advantage of.
Also when I was over 200lb deadlifting over 600 I got jumped by a pack of skinny kids at a concert so I wouldn't rely too much on being strong, haha
More of that great LV positivity to start off my day
bro i thought that was alex eubank just chilling in the back
This guy has sick speed off the floor
Im at 180 now with a 78 bodyweight.
Pr was 190 but i had to stop for a while... No idea if it's decent tbh😂 it's difficult to compare. 200 will be a milestone regardless tho 👏🏻👏🏻
comparison is de teef of joy
I love this positivity!!
The thing is they all look around the same age as eachother. He probably knows them all
I was wondering how to could get on one of these vids my 3rm on deadlift is 385 pounds (174.63 kg) and i am 14, how would I get on one of these channels?
no straps or belt btw.
It's funny recording a set in gyms and seeing people react. I've caught a few different guys just nodding at me after I finish my set. It's a weird pattern
Love this! The internet's perspective of "respectable weights" always seems to be relative to competitive male 93-120 kg lifters. It's really frustrating to see sometimes considering 150 kg x 3 puts him around 50% the -67.5 kg class untested WR deadlift (which I assume this guy is around that weight). While on the other hand, most people would think 250 kg is respectable, but it is still only half the SHW untested records.
Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous when people online act like, for example, 200 kg isn't impressive when it's a weight that 95+% non-powerlifters below 100 kg BW will never even get close to. It's imbecile to compare regular people that work full-time jobs, have no sponsorship or professional equipment, don't use steroids and lift as a hobby with professionals that can dedicate all their time to develop strength, or even for that matter to young dudes that are at their hormonal and developmental peak and have no responsibilites other than school.
Alex Eubank is impressed in the back there
I just started 3-4 months ago and was pretty out of shape post covid. Currently do 2 x 120kg deadlift and lost a stone. Would like 150kg in next couple of months. I just wanted to get past the point i was a total embarrassment at the gym. I really want my bench up now.
Non-lifters have really high expectations when it comes to lifting.
Sometimes I even feel like it's not allowed to lift and be just decent at it.
If you lift for 5 years, people ask why you don't look like a fitness model or why you lift less than the world record a low weight class.
When somebody plays football for 10 years, nobody asks why he hasn't won any major titles yet or why he is not playing in a pro league.
i just started doing dead lifts 2 weeks ago, im 48 , weight arouund 80kgs, i did 150 KG dead lift today (330pounds) is that any good? can i do 200KG within a few months?
Fitness social media definitely skews your view of what the average person lifts and how they look. Here in the US, if you’re minimally active and not obese, you’re already doing better than the average joe
I’m 16 and can pull 170kg (374lbs) and I’m up from 140kg six months ago. If you put in the work it will show.
Bro is just like me, im 17 and just hit 150, i dont know how there are absolute beasts with my age or les hitting more than 200kg, its awesome
With how popular social media has made strength athletes and influencers, I only see progression of people wanting to pull heavy deads getting stronger. So yes I’d say 3-4 plates is becoming very common for most average gym goers. But I feel like the main reason people were looking was because he was slamming the weights or they’re just in the angle of the video and don’t actually care that much
a 150kg is still pretty impressive for normal people outside of this whole social media gym bubble
Its about determination.... thats whats impressive, not the size of the lifter or the amount of weight being lifted.
Shout out to the flash entering the scene at :09 seconds lmao.
I deadlifted 130 and people were like "what happened?". Never take tough guys online seriously.
Good set Cody
Dang, i thought this was more beginner then this accually is, i myself am 17years old and been lifting for some time and i recently his a pr of 170 and ive got s friend at 16 who got 175
those type of plates make it look like he using more than 150kg, so alot of people probably didn't realize it was only 150kg. i lift 150kg for triples at my commercial gym using the olympic plates and no one bats an eye.
Being able to lift 2x bw in deadlift, 1.5x bw squat and 1x bw in bench already makes you a great lifter.
most people who don't work out but work in construction or some shit can do this.
No matter how far I go it’s never good enough
i'm 16 at 69kg bw and few months back I hit a 4 plate pr in the gym and some dudes literally started clapping, on tiktok a 4 plate dl looks like the most normal thing ever
The problem with comparing yourself to others online, is that you have very little, or any at all, knowledge about them in terms of steroids usage or if they are genuinely natural powerlifters. Plus, many have been in the gym for well over 10, 20 years or so, and there are so many other variables to consider as well. I only compare myself to my previous self.
Comparison if the teef of joy
I’m 155 hitting 405lb for reps and the guy next to me was at 540lb warming up. Had to give that man props.
i im 17 yo too and have similar deadlift now i'm feeling trash a little bit less lol
If you walked into the average gym 10 years ago it was very rare to even see a 3 plate deadlift. Everything depends on context
And body weight : lifting 150Kg while weighting 60 or 90Kg doesn't feel the same
@@e.c.9468 True but that only matters in competition
From what I see at my gym, anything over 185lb on any lift is above average. People stop and watch when I squat over 3 plates.
Alex Eubank miring in the back.
I don't know how much i can deadlift but i surely can do 150kg but i'm 23, this guy is doing it at 17 he's very strong
Many people can do this without training.
Every young guy at my gym hits 315-405 dead’s for reps. It’s definitely the easiest lift for most men. I’d be impressed if a female does it though
I now can feel nice about my 170kg deadlift 😊
at 17 yo i started gym and i could barely deadlift 40kg. lol. I am 28 yo now and 150 kg deadlift is still a serious lift for me.
It is quite impressive eventhough I think now teens start much sooner working out, and go harder. I don't think it's particularly "impressive" (not wanting to give negative thoughts tho) but just a statistical effect of (i think) more young people starting to work out.
HOWEVER, I hope there won't be a much higher proportion of early injuring like badly damaged discs, joints, etc... as they got earlier to "heavy weights", that's my only concern
100kg will already made people look, 150kg is fucking awesome
150 kg is impressive at his age. I hit 160 at 16, without belt or straps and all my friends (including non-gym and girls) were impressed. Same with bench: 90kg was impressive. I remember starting deadlift with 80-90kg and bench with shitform 40kg.
i did 200kg deadlift at 17 around 78-79 kg bodyweight.
Comparison can motivate you if you compare yourself to similar people
alex eubank in the back 😂
Good Job Cody
I'm impressed!
hit 425 yesterday. i wasn't happy cus it was a bad day and i could've hit 445 if it was a bit better. i now feel better. :3
For his body weight it is an elite lift
Trying 150kg today wish me luck
@56 15yo
I did it boys
most guys can't move 150kg off of the ground. I can count the number of guys that can DL 150kg for 1 rep in my gym on one hand. Only guys that are advanced bodybuilders, train powerlifting, or strong man consider this kind of weight a warm-up but for the average gym goer, this is crazy heavy.
If i compare myself on instagram with the top powerlifters I follow I have shit numbers. When i load up my singles (peaking block) i have the entire local gym looking.
i agree when you say compare to others doesnt make you happy BUT if you're into PL and you compete your goal HAS to be stronger than anybody, that's just hiw sports work IMO
Even Alex Eubank is 'mirin.
Were they impressed or was it because he was dropping the weight and it made a loud bang?
bro is defending and rousting at same time XD
Someone get the man in the back a spot on bench
A LOT of guys who go to the gym barely touch the deadlift because it's not a bro workout that makes muscles you can see in the mirror bigger. Once you get into the 3 plates a side zone you're doing more than the vast majority of gym goers.
