Hi Pete I urge you and everyone to give the debut another shot. It is naive like a lot of debuts but more intense and serious so a nice contrast to bouncy happy Supertramp. Best listened to in the dark. Album was recorded at night and only basically mixed so it has that feel. Also some great grooves to play along with... but yeah Crime of the Century is the one :)
I've studied Supertramp pretty extensively and in my mind they more than any other group took over where the Beatles left off. The diversity if their sound, the themes of their songs, the stories their songs told about the society in which grew up, and about the inner working of the mind and the conscience of the individual. Someday I'll write a book on it. As for my ranking.. 1. Crime of the Century 2. Breakfast in America 3. Crisis? What Crisis? 4. Even in the Quietest Moments 5. Famous Last Words 6. Supertramp 7. Indelibly Stamped 8. Brother Where You Bound 9. Free as a Bird
Nice job as always, Pete. Your second favorite Supertramp album is my favorite, Even In The Quietest Moments. Aside from their many hits that receive heavy airplay, I am not intimately knowledgeable about the band's entire catalog of albums and songs, but I totally love Even In The Quietest Moments- it has been a favorite rock album of mine since the day it came out.
great band..great video...love your list...top two perfect...'crime' and 'quietest' definitely 1 and 2....i personally would put 'breakfast' further down and 'famous last words' a little higher...but that's just me...peace always...rocky

I was watching with bated breath to see what your no.1 was & as soon as you said Breakfast in America I knew Crime of the Century HAD to be top of the pile 😄 That album is just a masterpiece from end to end. Apologies if I've missed it if you've already done this band, but can I suggest Dire Straits? Cheers Pete 👍

I've just patted myself on the back... I have four of the top six - whooppee! And then, I also love Paris on vinyl... and tend to play the double CD Retrospectable to death too!! 👍😁
I dont have all of Supertramps albums but Breakfast In America to me is one of the best albums of all time. While I would agree that it is very poppy there just isnt a bad song on the album and "Child Of Vision" is such a classic song. 1. Breakfast In America 2. Crisis What Crisis 3. Crime Of The Century 4. Even In The Quietest Moments 5. Famous Last Words 6. Brother Where You Bound Thanks Pete and keep up those great reviews
I'm glad you did reviews of the earlier and later album releases. I host radio shows, hoping to do a Supertramp one, and it was helpful to know that there are a few songs on the 'off' albums that are worth adding to my playlist. I'll be listening to the ones you mentioned. Thanks a lot. 'Crime of the Century' is my number one favorite and 'Breakfast in America' is my second choice. I adore 'Even in the Quietest Moments' and 'Crisis, what Crisis', as well, so I'm not crazy about ranking them actually. I would say why, but I'd need to formulate my thoughts on that. It might take a while.

Brother where you Bound 7.Indelibly Stamped 8. Supertramp. 9. Some things never change Free as Bird. But top 4. All could change on any given day. Love Supertramp 1970s. A lot. I enjoyed this PETE. Thank you
Great picks, great order! I’ve got 4, still collecting! Also I have all Steely Dan albums, and I knew you were talking about them before you untangled yourself😁. Great! Thanks!
Totally Agree with Crime of the Century as Number One. I remember hearing it in 1975 as an 18 year old in My last year of School and being blown away that every song struck a chord with Me and got He through some tough times.
Thanks Pete. I really like this band. Crime of the Century for me followed by Breakfast for the memories from high school! Child of Vision from Breakfast is my favorite song from them.
Loved Supertramp but never the same when Roger left. Brother Where You Bound quite good. Had enough by Free As A Bird. Quietest Moments is my favourite and once you get Paris you really don't need anything else.
OK that fact that you put Even in the Quietist Moments ahead of Breakfast in America surprised me and gained a lot of (what do care?) respect from me. Your top 3 would be the top 3 for me. Great memory of seeing Supertramp on their Crime of the Century tour with Procul Harum as the opening act. Supertramp were amazing and there was a great drum solo by BJ Wilson from Procul, what a great drummer.
I own Even In The Quietest Moments... and Breakfast in America on CD, should probably listen to their other albums. Great rankings Pete as always, I know you have tons of other bands you are going to rank soon, I hope you get a chance to do: Asia Arena Bad Company Creedence Clearwater Revival Dio Dream Theater Fleetwood Mac IQ Marillion Metallica The Moody Blues Motörhead Mott the Hoople Ozzy Osbourne Procol Harum Saxon The Sweet Slade Spock's Beard
I love every second of every single supertramp song, my top 3 band ever, just one song I never liked, "The meaning" but really since "Surely" till "Dead man's blues" I love it, I think that supertramp is like music is meant to be, beautiful, easily my favorite band of all time, just behind Led Zeppelin
My top 3,not separated by much, and on most days a virtual dead heat: 1-Crime Of the Century ("School" is their absolute all time masterpeice!) 2-Even In the Quietest Moments (the title track is one of most beautiful & achingly poetic depictions of longing for (un requited) love ever recorded!) 3-Breakfast In America ("Hollywood" is perhaps one of their most underrated songs!)
Crime of the Century, Even in the Quietest Moments, Breakfast in America, Famous Last Words, Brother Were You Bound, Crisis What Crisis, All my Favourites and the ones I own!
Crime, Crisis, Even and Brakfast - four incredible strong albums. I can't put one before the other. Maybe Crisis is my favourite by a very, very small margin.
For me Supertramp died with the leaving of Roger Hodgson, so in my opinion Famous Last Words is the last real Supertramp album. The sad thing about it is that it was the follow up to Breakfast In America, and thus it always has been standing in the shadow of this hugely successful album. If you take a look at it without regarding the other Supertramp masterpieces you will recognize that it is a surprisingly good album that deserves much more attention than it gets. My personal Top 5 Supertramp albums are: 1 - Crime Of The Century No discussion, for me this is the best album ever produced. I mean: Not only the best Supertramp album, but the best album of all times. Better than Sergeant Pepper, better than Pet Sounds, better than ... whatever ... 2 - Even In The Quietest Moments ... Musically on a level that is nearly as high as Crime Of The Century, therefore it deserves to be number 2. 3. Breakfast In America Catchy, hooky, more than 20 million copies sold. What else do I have to say? 4. Famous Last Words As I mentioned before ... ;-) 5. Crisis? What Crisis? I can't help it but I will never become friends with this album. And yet it is way better than the "Post-Roger-Hodgson"-albums and the first two Supertramp oeuvres ...
I pretty much agree with your rankings here. I do believe Breakfast In America is a great album but would only make it as far as #3 on my list too. My top 2 would flip flop though as I like Even in The Quietest Moments just a tad bit better than Crime of the Century. I find it a little bit more proggy than Crime and that's where I tend to levitate. Great job though!!! Keep up the great work. Much appreciated.
Pete, your top 3 are my top 3! Nothing will ever top Crime. Not a bad song on there ('worst' song for me on there is Dreamer, and even then, it's not a bad tune). Even In The Quietest..., if it were just for Fool's Overture, it would make my #2, but there's just so much other amazing songs there too! And indeed, Breakfast, again, not a bad track on there. That was my first exposure to the Tramp (my sister had the album), but a friend I met in high school absolutely adored Supertramp, and so it went with the other albums - Crime took me one listen, and it was tops!
Interesting. I didn't even know about the latest 3 albums. After Brother, I lost interest. My faves, #1 Crisis What Crisis, #2 Crime of Century, #3 Quietest Moments. BUT..... that order could change in a heartbeat, they're all so good. Looking forward to your Wishbone Ash ranking. Love them. Great live band too. AND...EXCELLENT SHIRT !
Supertramp is SO underrated and doesn't get the respect and recognition they deserve. Crime of the Century is a masterpiece. When I hear Bloody Well Right on the radio, i crank it up loud.
Agree on ranking Brother above Famous Last Words. I was going to say Crisis over Quietest Moments, but Fool's Overture...such a great song. Crime at #1, of course.
Yeah, I agree those two albums are their best, with Even In The Quietest Moments probably 3rd for me, Breakfast In America, was just too poppy for my liking.

I agree. I would rank it in the top five. Not fair Sea dismissed Roger Hodgson's albums because they're more Supertramp than Supertramp.
I really like Supertramp, they are so talented and one of England's really huge 70s acts.
1. Crime of the Century
2. Breakfast in America
3. Crisis? What Crisis?
4. Even in the Quietest Moments
5. Famous Last Words
6. Supertramp
7. Indelibly Stamped
8. Brother Where You Bound
9. Free as a Bird
Excelent! I think the same way! They were what Beatles would sound If hadn't split in 1970!
Hey Pete. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and taking the time for doing these videos. I really like your reviews. Greetings from Colombia!!
Crime of the Century is a musical miracle and "Rudi" is the jewel in the crown, the absolute most perfect song I know.
I like the debut a lot, partly because it's so different from the better-known albums. Live album Paris is great as well.
My top Three are as followed:
1) Breakfast in Amerika.
2) Crime of the century.
3) Even in the quitest moments.
ROCK N ROLL!!
great band..great video...love your list...top two perfect...'crime' and 'quietest' definitely 1 and 2....i personally would put 'breakfast' further down and 'famous last words' a little higher...but that's just me...peace always...rocky
I wish I could heart this. Love supertramp, thanks a lot, Pete.
I think it's about time I rank Supertramp.
11 - Free as a Bird
10 - Slow Motion
9 - Some things never change
8 - Supertramp
7 - ...Famous last words...
6 - Indelibly Stamped
5 - Brother where You Bound
4 - Breakfast in America
3 - Crisis? What Crisis?
2 - Even in the Quietest Moments...
1 - Crime of the Century
I remembered when I first heard School...
Cheers Pete 👍
just watched the Triumph and the Supertramp two bands I like but never really went to deep with. I love watching these they always inspire me to look back at bands I haven't listened to in a while and get me too. I rediscovered my love of BTO that's to Pete.
Perfect avaliation. The album Crime of the century always be number one.🤗
Just like you said Pete: no one or no other band can sound like supertramp. They are unique.
Supertramp's 1980 (?) Live album was the first album ever to debut at #1 in Australia.
I remember back in the day a show called W5 used fools overture as the opening music
What a powerful song
That’s right. W5, from here in Canada.
@@caryheuchert yes in deed i remember watching it back in the day just for it LoL
I remember that
@danoh's toolbox Another Canadian TV series, “Here Come the 70s”, had cool instrumental theme music. It was performed by the Canadian band, Syrinx. ua-cam.com/video/37z6eAp3D4A/v-deo.html
In the 1980s American tv coverage of golfs majors always played the hook from fools Overture when referencing the leader board
I think I actually agree with your rankings! I was fortunate enough to see them live for the Breakfast in America and Brother Where You Bound tours, the former ranking as one of my top 3 concerts ever.
1. Breakfast In America
2. Crisis What Crisis
3. Crime Of The Century
4. Even In The Quietest Moments
5. Famous Last Words
6. Brother Where You Bound
Thanks Pete and keep up those great reviews
Best of Supertramp album, the white cover with the compilation of covers is the best stuff.
Most People forget Famous Last words had Roger too
Crisis? What Crisis? / just my opinion/ underrated gem /. 2. Breakfast in America 3.Crime of the Century. 4.Even in the Quietest Moments 5.Famous Last Words 6.
Great! Thanks!
Great Picks Brother! ,SUCH A BRILLIANT BAND!!!
I heard Supertramp once categorized as "Sophistorock". I would rank Crisis? What Crisis above Breakfast In America...but that is just my opinion...
Excellent job Pete- so once again I must check out a couple of albums I have yet to.
yeah got to agree Pete Crime not only a great Album but the production and mix for the year is nothing short of stunning
Crime of the Century is their best, the drums and keyboards are amazing on it!
I never liked these guys, but I was given free concert tix back in 2003(?). They were so pro! Excellent show!
Love that t-shirt Pete, Love Supertramp to and always go to see Rodger when he tours.
I own Even In The Quietest Moments... and Breakfast in America on CD, should probably listen to their other albums. Great rankings Pete as always, I know you have tons of other bands you are going to rank soon, I hope you get a chance to do:
Asia
Arena
Bad Company
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Dio
Dream Theater
Fleetwood Mac
IQ
Marillion
Metallica
The Moody Blues
Motörhead
Mott the Hoople
Ozzy Osbourne
Procol Harum
Saxon
The Sweet
Slade
Spock's Beard
I love every second of every single supertramp song, my top 3 band ever, just one song I never liked, "The meaning" but really since "Surely" till "Dead man's blues" I love it, I think that supertramp is like music is meant to be, beautiful, easily my favorite band of all time, just behind Led Zeppelin
My top 3,not separated by much, and on most days a virtual dead heat:
1-Crime Of the Century ("School" is their absolute all time masterpeice!)
2-Even In the Quietest Moments (the title track is one of most beautiful & achingly poetic depictions of longing for (un requited) love ever recorded!)
3-Breakfast In America ("Hollywood" is perhaps one of their most underrated songs!)
I won Crime of the Century in a competition and was blown away, that led to me being a complete fan.
I bought it in 1974 when it came out and it had the same effect on me. I still have it (and most of their other albums).
I used to run into Roger Hodgson in the Nevada City-Grass Valley Ca. area a decade or so ago. He's a natural California hippie....from Europe.
I love Even in the quietest moments is my number 1 Supertramp album
Crime of the Century, Even in the Quietest Moments, Breakfast in America, Famous Last Words, Brother Were You Bound, Crisis What Crisis, All my Favourites and the ones I own!
Crisis What Crisis , my favorite and it has one of the best album covers ever.
Crime, Crisis, Even and Brakfast - four incredible strong albums. I can't put one before the other. Maybe Crisis is my favourite by a very, very small margin.
Supertramp should be at the rock of fame !!!! So underrated
My personal Top 5 Supertramp albums are:
1 - Crime Of The Century
No discussion, for me this is the best album ever produced.
3. Breakfast In America
Catchy, hooky, more than 20 million copies sold. What else do I have to say?
4. Famous Last Words
As I mentioned before ... ;-)
Love the shirt, Pete. And of course the pick of the artist!
They were amazing live, far better than I had expected.
Totally agree on the top three, the others I haven't listened to enough to rank them. The top two are great classics that everyone should own.
“Crisis? What Crisis?” and “Crime of the Century” were the only two Supertramp albums I liked. Sort of.
Yeah, I agree those two albums are their best, with Even In The Quietest Moments probably 3rd for me, Breakfast In America, was just too poppy for my liking.
My top 5
1.Even in the quietest Moments...
2.Crime Of The Century
3.Breakfast In America
4.Crisis? What Crisis
5.Brother Where You Bound
I agree completely with your rankings!
They have my favorite 4-album run in music, as Crime-Breakfast are all 10/10 for me!
This is my Supertramp album ranking:
1) Crime Of The Century (10/10)
2) Breakfast In America (10/10)
3) Even In The Quietest Moments (10/10)
4) Crisis? What Crisis? (10/10)
5) Famous Last Words (9/10)
6) Indelibly Stamped (8.5/10)
7) Supertramp (8/10)
8) Slow Motion (7.5/10)
9) Brother Where You Bound (7.5/10)
10) Some Things Never Change (7/10)
11) Free As A Bird (6/10)
The first album is a masterpiece and one of the best I've ever heard. Only album that I love by Supertramp.
Man I love Fool’s Overture. One of the greatest tracks ever
Only listened to 4 albums so ranking those:
1. Crisis? What crisis?
2. Even in the Quietest Moments
3. Crime of the Century
4. Breakfast in America
I enjoy all of them a lot 1 and 2 were very close.
Crisis what Crisis is their best, even Ray Davies and Roger Hodgson say the same.
@@germanissimo Ray Davies was with the Kinks. Rick Davies is with Supertramp. Different hombres.
@@germanissimo OR fans of both Supertramp and the Kinks, like me! :)
Need to go back and listen to those top 4 albums...thanks Pete
