That is my favorite shot as well, to get the diffusion on the lights, was that the promist? I have the Kase 112mm magentic filter kit, I like the neutral night filter on the 14-24.
For people for whom this is not a profession, the Nikon 14-30 is an almost equally good lens, incomparably more compact than the 14-24, covers a wider range, and also has the option for screw-in filters (82 mm). However, these filters are significantly cheaper - I use a Marumi polarizer that costs around 40-50 dollars.
F/4, way more distortion, more vignetting, worse chromatic aberration and less sharp. You literally get what you pay for here, and have to consider what you want or need or can afford.
Great to see Evan returning to this behind the scenes photography format. It's what really got me back into taking photography seriously. Keep it up! You're one of the GOATs!
Hey thank you! The whole photo world (and world lol) has changed since back in the day when I made those videos but definitely a goal to find a good way to modernize the behind the scenes format
Hello Evan. Nice pics and thank you for this video. I have the 14-30 F4 model that is really good too. I love it on my Zf and this 14-30 is even more versatile for this king of trip. Have a nice day. JB from France. 👍
You know what’s even better, that lens hood fits the Nikon Z Trinity (14-24, 24-70 and the 70-200) I’m using the Kase Revolution Magnetic kit with those lenses and it is a blessing!
My opinion, But i have literally never seen better photos of cityscapes, you take really amazing shots and the color grading is superb. Love to see your content man, keep it up, hope i will learn more from you.
I still own and use the older f mount 14-24mm 2.8, and the filter limitations have always been an issue. So it's great to see that the Z version fixed that.
This lens is definitely on my radar! A lens you might like to check out is the Z 24-120mm f4 S, it's a fantastic lens that is extremely versatile...it's currently my favourite lens I own.
Man, we stayed right near each other & I went to the 2pm presentation 😫 I knew I should’ve came to the 11am!! Would’ve been fire for us to link, all good. Great video nevertheless.
Awesome timing Evan, I’m visiting NY and the US for the first time properly in mid October! In my case it will be with the 14-30mm f/4. Did you find yourself using a tripod much during your visit, especially during the evenings?
That vlog sequence looked great.. if that was with the Z8 and 14-24 you got some strong arms.. I ended up taking a hit on light gathering and went for the 14-30 f4.. its still an S line lens so its very sharp.. 30mm is great as its close enough to 28-35 which is where i like to be for street.. there have been plenty of occasions where i wish i had a 2.8 though.. so you gotta pickk your struggles.. the 17-28 was an option but it felt like slightly inferior glass and not super duper wide.
Yeah this lens is also much lighter than the previous one I had. Definitely excited to try some more stuff. I did checkout a few things when I was at b&h during this trip. Appreciate you watching 💯
How many of these shots were at 14-16? I am torn between the smaller, lighter and a bit longer 17-28 as I don’t tend to shoot ultra-wide and like small and lightweight kit… the photos you showed, however, were stunning and if the 14-16 range was essential for these then, maybe the size and weight are worth it😜 I have a 14-24 F-mount but won’t carry it around and only bring it out when I need it’s range (real estate).
Okay. After hearing you talk up the Z 14-24/2.8S for ten minutes, I'm getting the sneaking suspicion that my copy, staring at me from a Z30 mounted to my desk, is being horribly underutilized. There was a time, many years ago, when all I wanted to do was shoot random things with an ultra wide lens, so naturally I had to have one for the Z9, and I just couldn't rediscover the joy.
I think you are an absolute fire photographer and you still are too self critical about some stuff when you can just go out and rock the show. Love your perspective and opinions on photography and tech ❤
My 810 is broken so I have no way to compare except old photos but I think the quality of these images is slightly better, but the overall camera experience + video on the z8 is (obviously) so much better than the 810
Unfortunately Panasonic only has a 14-28mm F4-5.6 but at least it's macro. Sigma does have a 14-24mm F2.8 Art though. I'm not usually one to use wides but maybe I'll rent one for a project.
Haha the problem with the new studio (at the moment) is that everything off camera is a mess. There’s a blanket hung to shelf to block noise… so once that’s fixed it’ll be more usable 🙌
The 14-30 f/4 does the exactly same job and a bit more at a fraction of the price, size and weight. Except you lose access to f/2.8 of course, which, frankly, is not a big deal with contemporary bodies. IQ is similar. I would not state the same for 24-70, as differential focus advantages come much more into play and there are obvious visual differences for background management.
Greatest city on earth? Yeah it's cool but I don't know about all that lol. My state, my favorite sports teams, but man I hate the traffic up there. If I don't have to drive then ATL is great 😂😂
Bro, your videos are so repetitive you just cannot be content with one camera and I get it. You’re a gear review channel and photography comes third. I mean let’s face it. Your photos aren’t award-winning.
Let me know your favorite photo from the trip. I mentioned mine in the video but I also love the image at 7:35. Thanks for watching!

7:28 is my favorite photo. The colors and the glow from the filter give the scene this really cool peaceful/ethereal feeling. Love it!
Happy that you brought some of the photo vlog style back for this one. hope you keep doing it
Definitely the plan to have it make its way back into more videos
This lens is outstanding in the rights hands. I think it’s a Nikon legend in the making. Great photos. Thank you.

Great shots! 👍🏽 I love the Z8 and 14-24 combo! 🔥
This feels like the old videos, love it! & those edits are fire 🔥
You know what’s even better, that lens hood fits the Nikon Z Trinity (14-24, 24-70 and the 70-200) I’m using the Kase Revolution Magnetic kit with those lenses and it is a blessing!
Just to clarify this GREAT POINT - it's the filter holder aka lens hood that fits the trinity so you can use the same filters on all those lenses.
My opinion, But i have literally never seen better photos of cityscapes, you take really amazing shots and the color grading is superb. Love to see your content man, keep it up, hope i will learn more from you.

So jealous! Travelled from Sydney to nyc for the first time and it truly is one of the capitals of street photography and I can’t wait to return.
14-24 was my favorite back with DSLRs! I really love the wide perspective. This might push me to finally pull that Nikon Z trigger.
Love that you have switched back to nikon Evan. I’m a Nikon user so can get all the tips and tricks from a Nikon angle. . Love from Ireland 🇮🇪
Nikkor 85mm f/1.2 is unreal. A gamechanger
Like the Plena.
I have not been able to smell Atlanta, but I remember the smell of the hotel u stayed at in Dumbo! Awesome images as usual!
Thank you! And for real haha that hotel did smell really good
This lens is definitely on my radar! A lens you might like to check out is the Z 24-120mm f4 S, it's a fantastic lens that is extremely versatile...it's currently my favourite lens I own.

That shot at 5:57 is fire dude
What's the name of those glasses you have on and where'd you get them @evanranft?
Awesome timing Evan, I’m visiting NY and the US for the first time properly in mid October! In my case it will be with the 14-30mm f/4. Did you find yourself using a tripod much during your visit, especially during the evenings?
Evan... I might just go out and get this next week... add to 24-70mmm and 70-200mmm... Thanks for a very informative video...

One thing I have noticed with most of the Z lenses is that they are smaller than their F mount counterparts. I told you on IG that photo was the best.
Yeah this lens is also much lighter than the previous one I had. Definitely excited to try some more stuff. I did checkout a few things when I was at b&h during this trip. Appreciate you watching 💯
What level of promist did you use? Also what brand was it by?
This lens is on my lens target list.
Monster lens. Love it. Become a staple in my lineup
This is a special lens, just like the other two from the trinity. The Plena, however ist even better.
I love my NIKKOR Z 28-75 f2.8 & 70-180 f2.8! Both great lens you should try. (I also shoot on the Nikon Z8)
Okay. After hearing you talk up the Z 14-24/2.8S for ten minutes, I'm getting the sneaking suspicion that my copy, staring at me from a Z30 mounted to my desk, is being horribly underutilized.

which pro mist filter did you get? the photographs look amazing
You should try the 85mm & 50mm 1.2 as well as the 24-70mm & 28mm 2.8, oh, and the 135 1.8 - PLENA, it is amazing for portraits etc.
For the first couple minutes of the video - what lut/grade/ picture profile did you use? Looks great, I want to copy.
Hey Evan great video and story as usual. What hotel did you stay in while in NY, if you don’t mind me asking?
im just glad bro is back to nikon
I think you are an absolute fire photographer and you still are too self critical about some stuff when you can just go out and rock the show. Love your perspective and opinions on photography and tech ❤
As soon as you said the filter size..... I knew that price was gonna be nuts
What are you vlogging on?
like your glasses. Which brand is it?
being someone who works across from th oculus and walk past these buildings all the time I would have never guessed a composition like that
I use the 14-30 Nikon lens for real estate its lovely :)
Awesome!
Thanks for watching!
@@RanftEvan welcome ☺️☺️☺️ ! And yeah 2.8 isn’t needed for my use I’m always at f8 or f9 😅
in dud it's great Lens, I tried the Z 14-30 F4 and replaced my Z 14-24. i found the 14-30 is good and versatile small and light then the huge 14-24.
Can you tell us which airbnnb or hotel was that?
24mm 1.8 Z🔥
Finally POVs are back.
The 14-24 S Lens is my Dream Lens but I use the 20mm f1.8 rather for Astro
If you would only take photos how do you feel about d810 vs z8? Been wondering if i should upgrade.
My 810 is broken so I have no way to compare except old photos but I think the quality of these images is slightly better, but the overall camera experience + video on the z8 is (obviously) so much better than the 810
Z glass is pretty fire
Definitely. Hoping some folks comment other lenes to try from the lineup
I got the 24-70mm 2.8 , it is incredible, I shoot most of my pictures with it and the Z6III
Unfortunately Panasonic only has a 14-28mm F4-5.6 but at least it's macro. Sigma does have a 14-24mm F2.8 Art though. I'm not usually one to use wides but maybe I'll rent one for a project.
Whats your vlogging camera?
All the vlog footage was shot with the setup I talked about in the video. Z8 and 14-24 2.8
I hope Nikon come out with a fast 14 prime.
Did he get it used?
I bought it last week 😊
Congrats and enjoy!!
We need some studio photography vlog
Haha the problem with the new studio (at the moment) is that everything off camera is a mess. There’s a blanket hung to shelf to block noise… so once that’s fixed it’ll be more usable 🙌

WE ARE SO BACK!!!!!!!
Been shooting on the Sigma 16-28 2.8 pretty consistently since it came in on my S5II, very stoked on it. Check it out!
🔥🔥
I'm a big fan of the 20 1.8 S, check it out if you can! 😎
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for watching 🙏🙏🙏
I own the Sony 12-24 f/2.8 and I demand a trial by combat.
Clip on the mic, please 🙏🏼
Greatest city on earth? Yeah it's cool but I don't know about all that lol. My state, my favorite sports teams, but man I hate the traffic up there. If I don't have to drive then ATL is great 😂😂

Nah Sony GM 12-24mm is the best
Haha to each their own but the filter factor wins it for me with this one
Nah. Canon 11-24 f 4 by a country mile.
