A popular device used for quotation and storytelling.
This began on the *chan imageboards, where quoting text places a Less or Greater than symbol in front of it, turning it green. This effect can also be done manually. Before long, this feature was put to innovative use. When quoting another post, greentext is frequently used for summary, criticism, and ridicule. Its other major use is storytelling, in which a lengthy story is told through fragmentary statements in greentext.
Greentext became highly popular for both of these functions due to its convenience. When quoting a post, it is easier to summarize than to respond in full. When telling a story, stringing together sentence fragments is a grammatically easier alternative to prose composition (it also makes for lighter reading).
This feature has become so widespread that it is sometimes used outside of imageboards (eg UA-cam comments).

I dont get this story very well
I think that the 'madness' was individuality. I believe he was part of an insectoid race, thus clear higharcy and lack of emotions. The reason he never fought back against the veteran? he was a solider, someone of higher class, Let alone an accomplished one. He also felt like a parasite as he wasn't as perductive as he could be. as he should be. Instead he found solos in dreams and fantasy instead of work and sacrifice, The rest of his kin deemed it madness and tryied to fix it. Keeping him from being productive. When he saw humans with thier masks, he envyed them. He didn't want to be a burdened or have over reative emotions. The mask made him belive they were emotionless. But when he saw them unmasked, he lost all his worries. If he was the mad one, then what where they? He stoped caring and was ready to face the world with new.... masks
