I like the Stars of the Story option to bring in a crew member, but similar to Trevor, I’m not crazy about pausing to make a fresh team mate. I’ve got to get a buddy to roll me up a crew member complete with gear and provide it tome in a sealed envelope. “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY”
Never has one man been rekt by his own dice rolls as hard as this, and I've seen myself playing warhammer. This is Wil Wheaton tier dice rolling... No one is dead though, for all that carnage this is pretty lucky in the end
"All skill is in vain when an angel pees in the touchhole of your musket." - German proverb. Really bad luck all round, but a very tense episode and great to watch. Thank you!
I think you should have rolled a persuasion check to see if more of the crew came over to money side. "Captain, we could pay off our ship. That would make us more free and one less worry." You could have used a pre-rolled up character.
Good playthrough. i think Meera would have bailed. Her motivation for wealth had her pushing initially for the crew to take the other mission for the higher pay - once the rest of the crew started dropping, I think she would have lost interest in this "mystery stash". Looking forward to the next episode!
A deep feeling of melancholy and despair?! That was SO PERFECT!!! I'm sorry for your poor crew, but it looked like you were deep in the flow of the game and having a good time at least. :)
Yay! I've been waiting for the next episode! But oof! ...that was a rough one! It could have been a lot worse though. At least no one died. Maybe Kael fell in the hole when he "got lost?" 😅 And Mara should tell the captain (since they're both in sick bay) "I told you we should have gone for the money job. We need to be better equipped before we face the ELITE crew of the Vendetta again!" Loving this series! I can't wait for the next one!!
Look at the bright side! Your crew is still alive. Broke and in sickbay, but still alive! (My first playthrough had a near TPK on turn #2 and I threw in the towel.)
I encourage you to block more of the sight lines with terrain. 5 Parsecs breaks very quickly if you don't (once you get +2 or better combat skill showing up on either side). The book mentions this somewhat on page 108. My advice is to put some 3" tall stuff down, or add a wide 1" high shallow rise to most of the middle under any other terrain you put down. Good luck to your crew :)
Idk if I was doing it wrong, but I kinda had the opposite experience. I had too much blocking LoF and largely just hunkered down and sliced the pie with shotguns
I actually laughed out loud with Cale getting more XP from getting lost in the damn woods LOL great (but also awful) episode, Trevor! Maybe next campaign turn can beef up the crew somehow before taking on tougher enemies
Another great episode! I’m glad to know the string of terrible dice luck can happen to even the best of us. What is in store for the crew?? Loved seeing Post-Production Trev scowl 😂
Storywise this feels a lot like the death & rebirth part of the hero's journey. The team became a bit overconfident, got totally curb stomped. That elite enemy was upgraded from minor boss to major boss, at the end of the story arc there will be a rematch when the heroes have lerned their lesson from today and grew accordingly. Personally I would suggest to occasionally skip on turn of firing on foes and instead spend it on reaching cover. Usually a sound investment :p
Wow, that was a very unfair fight. The enemy had a better than 2-to-1 advantage in shots per turn and a 50% advantage in +2 to hit shots per turn. In effect, the player characters were outnumbered, outgunned AND outskilled. No wonder they lost.
great episode, terrible rolls, Luckily Mara wasn't the random character event and decided to leave the crew, it would have fit this campaign round if that had happened . I do believe I will roll up an extra character just in case I need to meet a mate in a dire circumstance....Great series keep up the good work!
I rolled up my crew and went with crew size: 5 and difficulty: challenging. I think I might have set myself up for a hard time just watching this playthrough!?
It's here. Any chance soundtracks of the various seasons/series get uploaded to UA-cam without the sound effects? Would be useful to figure out how to play them. I think I figured how to play the season 2 theme and parts of the S3 theme, would've been easier to do it without the sound effects.
I'm not sure what the rules say, too lazy to get my book, but a roll of 1 to hit, no matter the bonus, should always be a miss. There should always be a fail state for any roll.
I own this book, but I wasn't super impressed. Compared to all your other games, 5 parsecs seems to not really have much of any Role Playing. It basically seems like you are just rolling for everything. More like a board game than an RPG.
"5 Parsecs seems to not really have much of any role playing". That's true because it's not a role playing game. "5Parsecs is a solo adventure wargame"-Modiphius. It's a solo miniatures skirmish game with lite rpg game mechanics. Most skirmish wargames are multiplayer and versus. Single player wargames are less common. What's great about 5 Parsecs is the way it connects the tabletop battles together and makes them feel like a campaign in a living world. It's not just a one shot battle. My miniatures are characters that are growing throughout a campaign. Most ttwargames you do the battle and that's it. If the rules are good and the battles play well that's great. But this game adds so much more. I grew up on video game rpgs and am interested in table top rpgs. In my opinion this game perfectly adds rpg elements to table top wargaming. Your miniatures gain weapons and experience points and new skills. They feel like they go on adventures and have little narratives. These of course aren't as fleshed out as in a ttrpg. The game is not exactly about the theatrical elements of roleplaying, but borrows game mechanics from RPGs. The random tables take the place of the DM or the videogame designer and generate scenarios and battles. Now my miniatures feel like they are taking part in a battle with consequences and a story. As an avid miniature painter/ wargamer 5Parsecs and 5 Leagues from the Borderlands is my favourite thing in the hobby. For me building and painting the miniatures/terrain is just as much fun as the game itself. With the huge list of enemies and allies you encounter there's no shortage of painting you can do. It's certainly not just a boardgame. It's a number of hobbies rolled into one game.
the angry trevor face popping up whenever initiative was rolled incorrectly really got me, haha
It's wild seeing minis I printed and painted on this show. :D
Edit: As Garnak's "dad", I'm so proud of my boy...
You've done a great job :)
As others have remarked, the Trevor Face sliding in from the edge of the screen was a hilarious touch.

That's such a good idea! Gonna go make my buddy do that right now.
41:52 “Wow, man. It just gets worse and worse!” Hilarious impersonation 😂
Never has one man been rekt by his own dice rolls as hard as this, and I've seen myself playing warhammer. This is Wil Wheaton tier dice rolling... No one is dead though, for all that carnage this is pretty lucky in the end
What a nail biter! Was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Filled with melancholy and despair after taking just about 50 shots... Sounds about right
The real miracle is that not every crew member is feeling just as down.
Sharp shirt, sir.
A deep feeling of melancholy and despair?! That was SO PERFECT!!!

I literally thought when he rolled that event "well, there's a big ol' hole, he probably walked into it by accident"

I have loved these games.

This was my initial thought upon seeing the battlefield then again once it was too easy to take shots.
Idk if I was doing it wrong, but I kinda had the opposite experience. I had too much blocking LoF and largely just hunkered down and sliced the pie with shotguns
I love your enthusiasm when battling. Another awesome episode. Shame the crew lost but they get to fight another day.
What a brutal match, this game can be unforgiving sometimes
I actually laughed out loud with Cale getting more XP from getting lost in the damn woods LOL great (but also awful) episode, Trevor! Maybe next campaign turn can beef up the crew somehow before taking on tougher enemies
Brilliant fun as ALWAYS :-)
I almost never laugh out loud anymore, but the Dawkin's joke got me.
Another great episode! I’m glad to know the string of terrible dice luck can happen to even the best of us. What is in store for the crew?? Loved seeing Post-Production Trev scowl 😂
Another awesome episode! I love this energy!
The crew can come back from this! No deaths, just a healthy respect for their opposition.
Have you seen the new 5P expansion? The Freelancers Handbook has new races, new ways to play, salvage missions, all good stuff!

I've been waiting for this! 🤩
#irememberedthestimpakthistime is priceless!

Wowah! That Chris Walken deep fake was sweet!
& Poor Mara, just tryna make dat money!
I love how much of a nerd Trevor is

I thought the random elements in this battle made it alot more fun...you should keep the 2 turn random event, gives it more of a story feel😁
The time has come!
I rolled up my crew and went with crew size: 5 and difficulty: challenging. I think I might have set myself up for a hard time just watching this playthrough!?
Of course the story mission is guarded by the most hardcore opponents yet 😅
On a repair roll of a natural 1 the item being repaired is ruined/destroyed I believe. I presume you could use a story point to reroll it.
Charles
ooof what a round. the cutscene for next episdoe shodu be interesting . but lucky no one died so yeah.
STIMPACK!!!!!!!
That is all... lol
An average battle for me. LOL. My dice always favor my enemies.
Pop up sad Trevor was amusing and unexpected lol

A disastrous outing for the crew, but it will ensure more episodes I hope.
Let’s goo!🎉
Brutal.
Ouch!
The reroll is a pretty logical mis-remembering of the rule, I have no objections.
Ouch! 😂
Dang this was like watching The Losers
Don't tell you audience to NOT comment xD
The almighty algorithm needs engagement ;)
Always got a kick out of people who pointed with their middle finger.
Actually, the roll for quest mission was 100 and not 10.
I'm not sure what the rules say, too lazy to get my book, but a roll of 1 to hit, no matter the bonus, should always be a miss. There should always be a fail state for any roll.

Not to sound impatient or anything... but where's episode 7? I need my fix.

@@namechange4137 Thanks for the well written response. I appreciated it.
@@AlarianDarkwind No problem! I love the game and am more than happy to try and drag someone into minipainting and wargaming.
