My family had an old Mercedes Benz 280SE. And, I've ridden in a mid 1970's Granada. Other than the fact that both cars are boxy and have four wheels, there is basically no comparison. The Granada did offer reasonable value for the money. Even the base models at introduction had reclining front bucket seats as standard equipment. But the riding and handling qualities were nothing special. You could load as many options as you wanted on a Granada Ghia and it would still feel like a small and unsubstantial car when driven.
My in laws bought a new Mercury Monarch (Granada clone) and let’s just say they didn’t keep it long. The day they drove it off the lot it stalled out at every stop light. Fortunately it restarted.
I always liked these first gen Granada’s. Would make a great sleeper with the right engine and just leave the rest of the car alone (except for adding the Lincoln Versailles 9” rear with the disc brakes)…..
I down extract from sporting events commercials to supplement the channel. most of the time, I'm doing transfers from negatives. This was from a Football game. VHS usually doesn't work well because the clarity or color isn't there, but this was from a very good quality ABC TV broadcast.
Lol this commercial cracks me up
Brings back memories of 1965 Ford LTD advertising- “quieter than a Rolls Royce”.
I will take the Granada, I had one and it was a great car, I wish I could have that car back. It was good looking and dependable.
Have a had a 1970s Mercedes too?
Love the video ending!

Always thought the hubcap design for the 75 Granada was something special. Not sure why.
You may want to re-edit that vid 😉
(Last segment)

Wondered what the heck was going on at the end of the ad. I guess this was taken from another youtube video?

I'll take the Mercedes, thanks.
No
It was twice the car the Granada was! Of course, it cost three times as much...
