It's definitely possible! But that said, start from the basics and work your way up, focus on building consistency and momentum in your studies and practice. It may feel like you are taking longer than usual at the start because there are so many things you are unsure of and haven't covered, but the only solution is to start and keep going and not look back, to minimise time lost. @@potati4097 Personally for me, I try to do only 2 things (subjects) a day, maximum 3, so i can focus on actually doing productive work. Assuming I have the whole day, I will cut out the day by time-blocking morning, afternoon and night time as a rough gauge, and then I just begin on working on chemistry first for example, all the way until I've covered and cleared whatever topics I've set for myself that day. That said there is a high chance that doing chemistry may spill over from the morning to afternoon time block but its fine, more importantly is you actually do productive work and you can feel the progress you are making. Then, afterwards i'll switch to my next subject such as Math, do the same and by night time if there is some time, do another subject such as Biology for a little bit, then next day perhaps continue where I left off from Biology the previous night and then Chemistry, Math and repeat, for example.
But that said, find what works for you! My advice is try out this time blocking method and have a "day by day" mindset, where you review whether this study routine works for you or not and adjust it along the way daily until you find a comfortable pace and routine that works for u! And don't forget to take care of yourself, like your health as well. I do spend time in the evening to go workout or go for a run, to be in touch with nature and destress/sweat it out, and eat a good meal after that too :)
- read the syllabus points - go through ur book and study the topic's chronologically, when studying go thru all the worked examples - solve past papers, preferably under exam conditions - self mark, recognize ur mistakes, fill in that knowledge, record ur grade , make a list of ur weak & strong points

2nd year student at KCL. I was at an E in A-Level Chemistry in March 2022 and I revised so hard that I jumped up to an A in my May mocks. Unfortunately, I got a B in the actual exam but I was still happy as I got into my first choice. Got AAB in maths economics and chemistry. What makes this funnier is I got the same grade as this guy who used to help me back when I was struggling with chemistry. Lmk if you guys have any questions

Hi! If you only have a textbook, I think it will be helpful if you use the learning outcomes/objectives from the AS level exam syllabus and then identify the important areas that you will need to know in your textbook, from there read through the section/chapter, then extract out the important keywords and summarise concepts in your own words (without missing out keywords/use the conceptually correct words) in your own notes. Also, let your notes be a repository to be updated everytime there is something new, for example, if you meet a practice question you are not sure of, after checking the answer key and self-marking, add it into your notes as well, so everytime you refer back to your notes, you are stacking knowledge. Which brings me to my next point - that it will be helpful to look for exam papers to practice, this way not only will you be geared up for the exam, you will know which parts of your textbook you should focus on in order to answer the questions. Do you have any friends taking AS level exam with you too? It will definitely help if you can find people on the same journey as you and also resources such as your senior's notes or other people's notes from online etc. Good luck and all the best!!

Haha thx man! For calculation questions, i think its important to know what you are doing, and it helps to break things down step by step. When you are stuck on a question, try to write something out or put the information in the question in a visual form on paper to get the ball rolling. All the best!

hey my advice to you would be that you first approach organic chemistry topic wise, so that you dont overcrowd your brain, pick a topic for example alkenes, if you ve studied it before on a piece of paper try writing out the things u already know, after that you can compare it w the reactions in its notes, now once you ve properly learned the reactions again just collectively write them down all at one place and paste the paper somewhere near you so that everyday you stumble upon it u just get used to seeing it sm it fits in ur brain, to improve your concepts i recommend doing P1 because those require quite a detailed picture for you to know beforehand in order to solve a qs hope this helps
For organic chemistry, try to identify patterns and make the links/connections. For example, you will find that using LiAlH4 in dry ether is a pretty universal reducing agent that can be used for most organic compounds (alcohols, carbonyl compounds etc). Personally ive not used flashcards before, but im really all for practicing lots and lots of question to reinforce your muscle memory 💪

I think there is no fixed amount of time as everyone has their own pace, but that said I think a blend of reading the concepts and then immediately applying them will be good. And also do up to maximum of 2 subjects per day, and within this boundary of 2 subjects, break down and list down what you want to achieve (aka what you want to cover) and then allocate from there.

Hi! No no no this is not the time to be discouraged, stick with me: 1. For organic chemistry, its important you try to spot patterns and find whats common. For eg, u will realise in most reduction reactions, LiAlH4 in dry ether keeps appearing so then u can make the link that hey i can keep reusing this when i need to reduce things. Do this not just for reagents and conditions but also look carefully at how the functional grps change - what is added, or subtracted away. For eg, in reduction reactions, H is added, but for oxidation, O is added/H is subtracted. Hence, u wont need to rote memorize as much, once u see common principles that u can apply to any organic compound. 2. Do hands-on practice to build muscle memory > memorise. Like what @catloverfinalboss said, yes practice practice and practice. This way u can get instant feedback on what u know and dont know, its super effective. Dont be stuck in the trap of being an ‘eternal student’ where u r jus studying but not applying and practicing. I hope this can help…my wish is that i could have time to make videos addressing problems like this but currently im stretched and occupied by life, but i promise it will come!! Damn thats rough man, but theres still time!! you're not cooked yet. Here's what I'll do: 1. know what you need to know (what is expected of you from the syllabus) 2. just start practicing exam questions under timed conditions (just like the exams) 3. once done, REWRITE OUT all your corrections, take note of what's missing from your answer, according to the answer key. And if you realise you are weak/forget some parts in a chapter, go back to your lecture notes and study it again (do spend more time on this step - actual learning takes place here) 4. rinse and repeat 5. pray for the best

@@yoruskiii i would say apply what you’ve studied as fast as possible at each checkpoint using questions, because doing so gives you immediate feedback on what you are weak in and will help you fill in content or knowledge gaps immediately. And it will hence help you remember things better as u will develop muscle memory. And also, try to spot any patterns in terms of definitions, how things link to one another (for eg in organic chemistry). Doing this can help you better understand things from a conceptual pov and hence makes it easier to remember things, as opposed to just rote memorization
I take HL Chemistry in the IB. My exam is 4 days from now (may 8 2024). My predicted is a 4 and I am lost. I am going to get a 5. I'll update if it is possible to cram and get a better grade.

Yup for sure! Especially for math and science subjects where there is a correct or wrong answer/correct way of answering questions. I'm not too sure if this will be applicable for arts/humanities subjects where your answers or essays are subjective.

This way u can get instant feedback on what u know and dont know, its super effective. Dont be stuck in the trap of being an ‘eternal student’ where u r jus studying but not applying and practicing.

17 days left before my chem A2 and I have to start everything from scratch, you got any tips for me man? so that I can at least get a B-C. On the brighter side, I am done with my Maths and Physics Syllabus but I don't like studying chem and this is were I've ended up.
Damn thats rough man, but theres still time!! you're not cooked yet. Here's what I'll do:
1. know what you need to know (what is expected of you from the syllabus)
2. just start practicing exam questions under timed conditions (just like the exams)
3. once done, REWRITE OUT all your corrections, take note of what's missing from your answer, according to the answer key. And if you realise you are weak/forget some parts in a chapter, go back to your lecture notes and study it again (do spend more time on this step - actual learning takes place here)
4. rinse and repeat
5. pray for the best

@@yoruskiii i would say apply what you’ve studied as fast as possible at each checkpoint using questions, because doing so gives you immediate feedback on what you are weak in and will help you fill in content or knowledge gaps immediately. And it will hence help you remember things better as u will develop muscle memory.
And also, try to spot any patterns in terms of definitions, how things link to one another (for eg in organic chemistry). Doing this can help you better understand things from a conceptual pov and hence makes it easier to remember things, as opposed to just rote memorization

Chem is certainly a different ball game. The questions are more complex after intro to organic like the inorganic questions are now mixed in with organic so it's like alot thought process that idk how to train

Yup for sure! Especially for math and science subjects where there is a correct or wrong answer/correct way of answering questions. I'm not too sure if this will be applicable for arts/humanities subjects where your answers or essays are subjective.
