Northstar engines secretly are some of the the best sounding motors ever made, I owned a ‘04 sts seville and that thang sounded better than most muscle cars of that era when in full wot mode.

My 06 v6 sounds pretty wicked and she will tear some shit up and get sideways as all hell if I let her. And I’m sure she will rip old Seville’s to shreds.
this thing is a beast of a motor. it throws u back into the seat so hard u almost get a concussion (at just 1.5k rpm, barely tapping the pedal). it feels aggressive yet silky smooth at the same time, almost like an overpowered electric car. i will love this motor to death.

These are really nice cars if you know what to look for and know how to fix them. Northstar engines are actually very good, all you have to do is switch the aluminum head bolts to metal ones from an ls engine pop on new gaskets fill w coolant and your set. I have done it.
@@toothrestorer6588 depends on what year the cadillac is. First North star equipped cadillacs used aluminum head bolts before switching to steel in early 2000's. That's also around the time they fixed the head gaskets switching to a better material to seal and last longer.
I have 06 STS4 V8, i agree the rasp just sounds tin can. I replaced resonator with two 18in glasspacks 3.5. round. mufflers with 12in. 5.5 round glasspaks to take out the rasp. Gives it very low tone rumble. It's loud, only downside its one of those cars thats louder then fast. Kinda like you hear it then you see it, and expect it to be moving faster then it is for how loud it sounds. Like a loud truck for instance.

You can barely hear this car and sounds no different than a stock 1987 Cadillac Cimarron, and that's a damn shame 😒Owner should have just run open manifolds, which is hands down the best setup and provides optimal back pressure and reduced used car lot financing APR on these 2006 Cadillac STS 4.6L's.

Back in 2006, I would see a few of these drive by me after school. I was born in the 90s, and still remember the old Fleetwood Brougham and DeVille sedans. Much more chrome than this car! Lol! Nostalgia and childhood, man.

They would be good performers if General Motors didn't screw up with the head bolts on these engines. They were too short and didn't have the right clapping force to keep you from blowing head gaskets left and right. The worst things about these cars are the fact that the starter is under the intake manifold. Got to take the whole top end of the engine off just to change out a starter that goes bad. I fixed one before. Never again. This one doesn't sound half bad if they add an x-pipe but I still wouldn't buy one.
My dad has a 99 eldorado and actually the headbolt issue was only on the 97 8 and 99 year northstars but those northstars are bitches to do just about anything on my dad changed the heatercore in it with covid which he had to tear half his dash apart, and he not to long ago also had to change the water pump which he needed a special tool for which he didn't use to get the old one out. He used a screwdriver and a hammer the guy at auto zone told him he was crazy when he seen it all ground up, the tool still ended up barley working

That chop is worse than a Harley. That sound exists because of its pipe length per cycler, without any explanation chambers and pressure balance between the manifolds. Its pressure waves are fighting themselves to get out the pipes creating a negative effect on the scavenging. I bet it's slower now than stock.
So you turned a luxury car into something it will never be (a muscle car) producing just a loud annoying car. Wonder when that engine light came on? I have a 2010 DTS and would never think of hacking it to pieces like that. Bravo
Sorta agree here. I think that if you want an exhaust on one of these, it virtually has to be cutouts instead of a permanent modification. No point in having a loud Cadillac 24/7

The head bolts are NOT aluminum. They are steel. The LS bolts are steel as well.

MAKE THIS TOP COMMENT: Northstar performance provides a head bolt kit that completely removes the head gasket issues, it's a "bulletproof" kit.
You don't need that kit on a 2005-2011 Northstar as they fixed those issues

This engine is DOHC. There is literally no aftermarket for this car.
