Doing this job is essentially a key task for the NHS, helping to save lives. I could justify doing it if I was getting paid to do it, otherwise “voluntarily” means I’m out doing this for free, when actually I have a family at home I should be taking care of!

This guy is saving lives every time he rides. Got a motorcycle? Enjoy riding? Why not offer to be a blood bike rider? You get to ride fast (legally with blue lights!) and you're saving lives with every journey. Without these guys, the NHS could not do any operations, they would not be able to save the lives of people with diseases like Sickle Cell Disease, Cancer, Kidney Disease etc, or save the lives of women who suffer blood loss during birth or anything. There's also an organ biker too I think, a biker who delivers human organs to where they are needed. If I could ride, I would be giving it some serious consideration!. Some super skilled riding there too, setting an example to bikers everywhere.

I think about this funding question a lot.
      The whole system needs rejigged.
Motability (the government funded charity providing disability vehicles to the disabled who are in receipt of suitable DWP benefit🙄) *made* just over *2 BILLION* in *profit* a couple years back, for that year.
      Should I repeat that? 🤔
A not for profit charity (Motability) funded by tax payers, made 2 BILLION pounds PROFIT for the year.
The company that own/run Motability (nfp charity), are a regular for profit company, and sell the cars after three years useage, and keep the proceeds as profit.
The government then pay for the new vehicles via the disabled persons disability benefit.
It's basically glorified vehicle contract leasing.
If it was fully in-house not for profit run by a government department, that 2 billion would be available for the likes of blood bikes etc.
Doesn't that smack you as quite odd, when there are blood bike charities having to rely on volunteers with their own bikes literally relying on public charity to provide an essential service.

Sadly not. The ST1100 was an ex-PSNI bike, and had the factory-installed unit. It would’ve taken funds away from frontlline services if we’d diverted cash to pay for a better unit just to yelp; we learned to work with what we had. Each of our bikes had different blues and twos, depending on their age. One of them was newer and had LED blues, and an array of sirens, yelps, etc, as well as different light configurations.

These guys do a vital terrific service, in my opinion those bikes should be fitted out with green flasher light like doctors use, 👍

They use blue lights instead of green as green have no power to run lights and speed.

Never seen a green light vehicle ever in Northern Ireland, everything under an emergency category is blue as far as I know here.

Green lights are courtesy lights (bit like UK blood service blues) only for doctors but not used very often (or now for diggers to show seat belt connected!)
