I have XTR 10 speed levers/calibers on my SWorks Epic. I have upgraded pads and rotors, still no were close to the braking performance of my Trek 12 speed with SLX brakes. As the lever mounts are totally different btw old 10 speed and new 12, can I just upgrade the calipers (and hoses too if needed), or is there a compatibility issue with the new calipers and my existing XTR levers? Thinking of going to XT m-8100 calibers. Thanks

Do you know if the long banjo fitting is identical to the short one? I can only get a BH90-SBLS (originally for m8020) hose as replacement for my m8000 caliper (BH90-SB).
I get the need for larger calipers with 4 or 6 pistons in a car or sport bike that you track. But I can routinely lock up the both wheels on several bikes with 2 piston Shimano calipers with minimal force on the lever. So what does the increased surface area of the additional 2 pistons really gain you on a bicycle?

Hi, I’ve ordered the shimano XTR9100 brakes. They don’t fit my bike. Only the 9000’s do. If I order the xtr 9000 caliper will it with on my 9100 levers? Thx
I am dealing with a unique Shimano caliper mounting issue and wondering if you can help. I have XT M8000 brakes on a Santa Cruz Hightower LT. When I bought the bike I had the shop upgrade the rotors from the stock 180mm to 203mm. Today with the Shimano parts shortage (203mm rotors won't be available until 2022) I am downsizing to 180mm. Therefore I need to remove the brake adapter and get new mounting bolts. The Hightower LT does not require an adapter for 180mm rotors and is post mount style so I can mount the caliper directly to the frame without an adapter. I am wondering what size caliper fixing bolts I need. My guess is the Shimano M6 x 18.7mm, using a standard flat washer. A local shop said I need a minimum of 9-13mm of thread inserted into the frame. I think the caliper mount is about 7mm wide so an 18.7mm bolt thread (not including the width of the washer) seems to make sense. Any thoughts?
@@LoveMTB Not 100% sure. I have request sent to Santa Cruz to confirm. I watched this guy building up the same bike as mine and he mounts the XTR caliper (for 180mm rotor) without an adapter. So assuming XT is same, then no adapter needed. ua-cam.com/video/G_FsaUmBcgE/v-deo.html
My M775 rear caliper from 2011 is finally leaking. Can I just replace it with one of the new 4-piston calipers, or something similar, or is the lever incompatible?
@@LoveMTB Thanks! Yeah- 4 piston seems a waste in the rear, so I'm going to move my good front M775 caliper to the rear and get a new SLX for the front. Unfortunately, they're all backordered, so I had to get a whole new SLX 7120 lever/caliper/hose unless I want to be out of comission for the next month or two, so compatibility won't be an issue. I'll have janky mismatched levers now though.

Hello LoveMTB. Great channel buddy. I have XT M8000 levers with XT M785 calipers and they work fine. I sold my old M785 levers to a friend. We tried them with much older m765 calipers and I cant get the brakes to feel right. They are spongy and there is minimal pad clearance so the brake bite point is way to early and the rotors drag slightly. Feels like the system is over filled. M765 was pre servo-wave so that might be the issue. Hes on a super tight budget so were going to try mt200 calipers with the M785 levers. Hopefully they play together nicely. Any thoughts on this?
Hi, your videos are very useful. Aside from which side the banjo attaches, and the 'straight path' bleed port are there any noticeable differences between the ZEE/Saint calipers and the 7100/8100? Any reason to choose one over the other? I'm upgrading to 4 piston and can get ZEE calipers (or the 520) for much less than the newer ones. No matter the caliper, for lever's I'm pairing with the 7100. Thanks
@@LoveMTB I'm actually putting together from scratch for a budget upgrade. So while I like the m7100 levers, the 2x set of m7120 is $350. However, a 2x set of m7100 levers and zee calipers +hose and connectors is about $200.
Can I put together xt m8000 levers with slx m7120 calipers? and also, if I buy them separately (because I have some metalic hoses and I want to use them) what parts do I need to connect them?

Hi, just a quick question. Do you think I should get a new cable or can I use my existing cable xt m8000 for m8100 caliper without having issue with the connecting, bolts and oring?

The 420 have resin and all the others mentioned ceramic pistons and the bleeding connections are a little bit different and some have banjos others regular connections. But other than that, is there really a difference in performance?
What about heavy duty monster stoppers. Something that bites hard. I really like leaning hard on the back tire with really good back brakes. At least for the back.
Have you tried installing a 4 piston M-8120 caliper on a 2 piston XT-8000 lever/master cylinder? I did last night and the install was smooth, bleed went well but the lever throw required to get the caliper to work increased significantly. I had to adjust the lever out another 1/4" and fiddle with the free stroke to make them feel "right" which they still don't. I'm wondering if Shimano increased the diameter of the piston inside the master?
@@LoveMTB I was meticulous with the bleed. Obsessively checked it again this morning after leaving the bike on it's side overnight. The only air was in the master under the bleed port. The lever feel does feel better after a couple of throws.
@@LoveMTB I'm going to have another go at it tonight and see if I can get the feel to be the same between the two levers. @@LoveMTB will do!! I was going to get some MT7's but they're a bit pricey and seem like a bit of overkill? haha
@@LoveMTB about to check it out now! Pretty novice to bikes and about to do a 10 speed upgrade on my super73! Need to make sure what adapters etc I need before I do the brakes!
@@LoveMTB awesome thanks! My issues are never ending on my new bike :( most shops by me refuse to work on ebikes
Well done, but it's my understanding that Shimano pistons are 2x15 mm. + 2x17 mm. in 4-piston calipers.
Hi I currently have shimano mt200 brakes front and rear on my bike. I want to upgrade to 4 piston, would I be able to swap the mt520 callipers onto my existing levers and brake lines with no mods? It looks like they have the same connection and I only want to swap to bigger callipers and not change the whole system. Thank you
LoveMTB okay thank you for the quick reply
Wait a minute, i wanted to see how to install banjo end onto hose! I've been fooled! ;-p
Question: Can I use non series lever and zee caliper quadpiston. Will it be same performance?
@@LoveMTB Oh, thank you for this info.
Are the slx m7120 4 piston pads compatible with the xt 4 piston?
uuuuhhhhh.bleeding is part of the same task. love your video. bit its like putting on a derailleur and not putting in the cables.
maybe you can still help me or redirect me to another vid, ive seen a good part of you channel but defo not all. (its all good tho btw)
ive seen the vid on how to shorten the hose. and i have burped breaks with the little cup with good results. but im wanting to install a 4pot on the front (the BR-MT520, sothe cable cutting is the same as in the other vid you mentioned here)
my question is.
is the syringe (bleed kits in general) needed to pump the oil up through to the lever, or can you bleed(burp) the whole system through the lever and cup.*
*specifically for shimano breaks with the one way bleeding feature.
thanks.
@@LoveMTB perfect. tell you what, if i ever get around to getting new calipers i'll do the video for you.
And the mt520? I have seen them witch ICE-Tec brake pads can u try it
can I put the m6120 clamp on a mt200 lever? what else would the mt200 lever work on?
Good Video - Love MTB
i have been using PENTOSIN chf 7.1 Mineral OIl for OLDER BMW WORKS AMAZING - No Issues ( Shimano XT Chrome Cap Levers )
Alternative to Shimano Oil - Looks GREEN COLOR
hello good night friend greetings watching your video I would like to know what size is the banjo is 6mm thanks
@@LoveMTB Well my case is the following I bought magura mt5e brakes for an electric scooter but it turns out that the banjo goes from the internal side or it sticks to the tire on that side the banjo and bolt are 5mm and I want to place the banjo on the external side where the bolt is 6 mm to prevent it from hitting my tire, I mean that it goes the other way but I would like to know how or where I can get a 6mm banjo kit with the bolt of the same size plus another 5mm bolt I hope you help me a lot, thank you
can i mix M785 with m8120 caliper?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a shifter rebuild vid- i have a sram x01 12 speed shifter that needs to be reassembled.

Hi I was wondering if xt m8100 brake levers work with shimano saint calipers
Is it sm-bh90-sbls? And could I use it on xt?
Ok
Can I have leaver M675 + M8000 Caliper?
Yes!
@@LoveMTB But Caliper M8000 have SM-BH90-SBM and M675 have SM-BH90-SS
@@ukaszkuczynski3988 it will work like I said 😊
@@LoveMTB
1. Caliper M8100 + MT800 180mm
2. Caliper M6120 + MT800 160mm
??
Can mix a bl m445 lever with a xt m8100 caliper?
I I think its alvio lever and xt caliper
I think you skipped showing everyone the crucial step of adjusting the caliper to the brake disc and subsequent tightening.
Have other how-tos that are specific to that task 😉
its worth using a magnifing glass to look for cracks around the caliper especially around bolt holes. I just about spotted one the other day. just by chance.front brake too. pheew.
@@LoveMTB hi, thanks for your reply. after scratching the paint off it is clear that the crack is quite severe. hard to explain but, if you imagine one of the holes that mounts the caliper to the post. the crack goes all around inside the one side of the hole all the way around the outside face too. it is a very fine crack but i think it is all the way through too. Very lucky to have found it, being a front brake. : /
@@LoveMTB thanks Lovemtb, i shall see if they might replace it. As i say, its just lucky i had a magnifing glass on the table, and for some reason, as i was adjusting the brakes i had a close look. Sad to find, but great i might live another day : ) All the best to you : p
Does anyone know where I can buy a caliper by itself? I've had a hard time finding one.
@@LoveMTB Good point... haha thank you! Appreciate the video
Has anybody tried m8000 levers with m8100 calipers? I tend to favor the m8000 levers.
Türkçe altyazı olsa ıyi olur teşekürler
Don’t forget to remove the bhenchode bolts
I hate ceramic pistons.
@@LoveMTB broken while I pushing them back. I think they are fragile. Many cases found on the google but shimano doesn't sell pistons.
@@LoveMTB anyway its braking power is good. I will be really pleased if pistons and new lever blade is strong enough.
I have m8100 2 pots but want to get the m8120 4 pots. Other than the caliper being different the only other thing I see that is different is the banjo bolt. Will the correct banjo bolt come with the m8120 caliper or will I have to buy seperate?
@@LoveMTB so does the banjo bolt come with the caliper?
Is my m7000 slx lever compatible to any 4piston shimano calipers?
Will the Shimano m4100 levers work with 8120 calipers?
@@LoveMTB my bike has already m4100 brakes so i was thinking to install just the 8120 calipers
For more stopping power
@@LoveMTB thanks for your respond maybe will worth to change all together
