- E146: a break for the norm, in this video i repair a Panasonic 3DO model FZ-10 with a laser that will not move. this is a simple fix with 2 hand tools , some lithium grease and a q-tip cotton swap , 10 minutes of your time and you will be working for years to come again. A common problem on the FZ10 where you can pick these up on Ebay for dirt cheap, do this repair and re use or even resell at a higher price because it is now fixed! Enjoy!!
For anyone else needing help: you don’t need to remove the drive, I bought a new Panasonic and didn’t unscrew it and appled grease and it worked!
Thanks for this, having this problem, greased the rail but didn't know about the little screws to losen.
This happened to me twice, and the local retailer proclaimed that this is
an irreparable issue and the only way is to get a new console. Yes, i was
swindled with that back in the day. Twice. Yep, people can be garbage -
what else is new. Funnily enough, my friend had a very old FZ-1, which
never had this problem. He gave away his 3DO eventually...to me.
And even decades later - that one still works to this day, without a hitch.
Eureka. It worked. Thanks so much!
Thanks for this amazing video. I will do some preventative CD-ROM checks on mine.
How would I do this on a goldstar? I can move the laser down easily but moving it up skips a bunch even after greasing it (and I don't see any screws to adjust like you did in the video, the assembly is a tad different)
Hmmm i dont know
Do you know how long the grease last without the disc error? Would it be a decade or so
well the original lasted 30 years so long after im dead.
Just bought one yesterday and followed the steps (including the mini screws) after that it powers on and goes through the login intro then when I insert the disc I hear clicking sound but the disc doesn't read still, what do you the problem is?
Too tight
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks for the reply but can you please clarify? which part is too tight?
@samb.1571 the screws that i show i loosened
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I did loosen them, shall I loosen them more? I can give it a try.
Great video, but what if the disc doesn't spin even after using contact cleaner on the switch that detects track 0(or would deoxit be better?)? The head moves fine, but it clicks to track 0 many times before it stops and ends up doing nothing anyways. Trying to diagnose other potential issues.
if its clicking its getting stuck on the stop track, make sure the bumper switch is functional, sure spray some contact cleaner/deoxit on it, (i use the wd40 clone, much cheaper)
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Already tried the contact cleaner, but might try again later.
I just traded one of these for a game gear and as some issue, im gonna try and let you know what was the result
awe man!
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration changed burned fuse and a wrong capacitor on power board, replaced laser and now works like a champion! Thanks
@@1977Bonishow-man Do you have any spindle problem. I have one FZ-10 here, after I replaced burned fuse and capacitors the spindle wont spin.
@@dennisbarcelo i have replaced the laser drive for a new one from aliexpress and it worked like new
Amigo qual a escala que o leitor funciona você saberia informar
good morning friend, can you tell me what is the frequency of leisure time? I would like to regulate my optical unit
0.344 %
do you have any video teaching how to regulate leisure
LASER. leisure is relaxation here. you were confusing me.
This seems to be a very common problem with these. freaking payed $99 for one in 2013, seller gave $25 back because it didn't work, but this fix did not work for me so far. I'm using like Spray can of white lithium grease (like WD-40 styled) lust because that's what was around and it doesn't seem to work. IDK if I should bother getting the paste version used here or what.
I have like $45 worth of games that I haven't been able to use once in all this time it's just so aggravating.
Does it move at all?
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration nah
Did you losen the screws a bit? Maybe a little more is in order

I have 3do fz-10 with a weird issue, the gex game doesnt run at all, i already tried two copies of game and dont pass the 3do logo, sometimes it keeps trying forever sometimes it returns to bios screen, i did a test with 6 other games and all boot fine. Caps issue maybe?
Possibly. They did all come with good rubicon or sony caps but again electrolytic lose their liquid mojo after many years. Did you do the laser grease fix like my videos state to do? Works wonders sometimes. it could also be too fast a media type your burning games to. keep that in mind. pretend its 1995
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration i tried your lubrifiication method and nothing changed but the laser is moving much easier now indeed. Im using original discs only, and i found another game that refuses to work its captain quasar. Its so weird
My FZ10 does like a loud grinding noise but only when you start the console, rest of the time is fine what could be wrong?
the gear is grinding. lube that sucker!
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Applied lube and no more grind, thanks.
What upscaler ?
well this is on a Dell U2410F it does anything from 15khz on up, hdmi/dvi/vga/display port, component and composite. the normal 3DO i have is just that, rca or svid or component. , there are a few upscalers that take composite and make it hdmi, but just for signal , it really doesnt do anything for the video clarity.
