My 1 Bond film would be The Living Daylights. Dalton is my favorite Bond, the one that connects me both with my youth, my sense of adventure and Ian Fleming. He's ruthless and gentle, he's badass but has a sense of fun. The film is a pure adventure in the style of Indiana Jones but has all the hallmarks of a Cold War thriller. The chemistry with Kara is wonderful and she comes through with some badass moments of her own at the end, so she's not a total damsel in destress. TLD has everything I want in a Bond adventure.

My nr 1 film is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. While Lazenby is not as commanding as the other Bond actors he is complemented by Diana Rigg who brings a lot to the film. Beautiful cinematography, the Piz Gloria/Swiss alps locations are used for maximum effect, my favorite score by Barry with a cool use of synthesizers contrasted by the lovely Louis Armstrong romantic motif. The story is different from the more common action adventure-Bond narratives with its emotional/romantic tone but I think it works great! Its fascinating how much it gets referenced in later films, especially in No Time To Die! I think it helped set the tone for the series as much as Goldfinger.
With that said the ones I revisit the most are the Brosnan and Moore films. Octopussy, Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day are all guilty pleasures! I also like the gritty tone of Licence to Kill and Quantum of Solace.

I think George has a few good moments though. When he escapes from blofeld and is sitting on that bench before tracy turns up..he does a lot of good facial acting. He really looks kind of terrified and like hes thinking miles a second of ways to get out of his situation. And also he acts well in the ending.

I grew up in the Roger Moore era. In fact, TMWTGG was the first film I ever went to see in a theater without my parents. But, in those pre-VCR days, if you wanted to see a Bond film you either had to wait for the new one or hope an older one showed up on TV. So, to get my 007 fix, I turned to the books. I became a HUGE Fleming fan. For me, then, the closer to Fleming the better. FRWL is my all-time favorite of the films. Dr. No is my favorite book. The pre-credits sequence of Goldfinger is my pop-in-the-DVD for some quick fun choice. But, the same holds true for the books. Often, I'll pull a Fleming volume off the shelf for some bedtime reading. The first chapter of Dr. No is my favorite. It's so descriptive and evocative! Early evening in Kingston. The empty streets, the smell of jasmine in the air, the chirping of insects, the cars parked in front of the clubhouse. . . and then, the "Three Blind Mice" appear. Magical!

Roger Moore is the Bond of my youth, and easily my favorite 007, yet, I can't name a single one of his films as my favorite. I loved Daniel Craig as Bond, and Dalton in The Living Daylights. Like Joe, the best looking Bond films always stole my heart the most; OHMSS, Casino Royale, Skyfall, and No Time to Die. I agree that Goldfinger coalesced all the literary and cinematic elements into a successful formula. But, for me, I think my Island pick would be Dr. No, which is like James Bond starring in a total B-movie! Connery was not charming quite yet (but it's there): he's just a brute. Jack Lord is his equal and my favorite Felix Leiter. It's fast and exotic and cheap and exciting and no one ever looked better! I also loved No Time to Die, and am fine with its ending, but Dr. No remains SO seductive and watchable to this day!

Goldeneye, Majesties still tied as my favorite Bond Film. GE, OHMSS, Liv Daylights, Goldfinger, Skyfall, Casino, LALD, Octopussy, FRWL, Spy, TWINE, TND, FYEO being my top films. But with Joe, Octopussy is such a great film. The Cold War, espionage, and Moore played more to his age.
Living Daylights, I feel was almost perfect Bond. Bond in Pushkins hotel room, and in Pre title, and opening scenes, I feel is true Flemming Bond. I like this Bond more then Craig’s. Yes, Whittaker needed more screen time, but Bonds face off with Whittaker , in his war rooms, was exciting. Necros a great henchman. The safe house scenes were dynamic.
But David’s question, stuck on island with a single film. Would be out of my top four, or TND. Goldeneye for me, has it all in spades, except the score is lacking. One of fav pre titles, favorite title sequence, one of fav title songs, my favorite villian in Trevelyan, tied fav henchmen in Onatopp ( with Oddjob), General Oramov is great villian, M is great, Moneypenny great, great Bond/Q interaction, defense minister bond interrogation scene is great, tank chase. Love Brosnan in it. TND would be a choice as well.

None of the other Bonds really gave us that, on the same level and I feel like that has a lot to do with why Craig was so good at the character, because he did have a heart, but when he needed to be cold he was colder than a polar bear’s toenail. Excellent discussion. Casino Royale will be my number 1 choice overall. Beneath that The Living Daylights as it was my first Bond film in the cinema, Dalton is Welsh through his early years and closest to Fleming's Bond for me, then Skyfall, Goldfinger and OHMSS. The soundtrack and cinematography for me also play a huge part such as The Spy Who Loved Me. Goldeneye looks amazing in the cinema but fell down for me watching it on TV. The opposite for Licence to Kill.

I am all about the 70's decade of everything; pop culture, music, films, even politics. And Bond is no exception. Octopussy, The Spy who loved me, and For your eyes only, my top three Bond movies of all time, each showcased the lushness of that 70's aesthetic; exotic locales, beautiful ladies, and a renaissance of cinematic craftsmanship. Moore was the Bond I grew up with. Honorable mention is Moonraker as it was the first I ever saw in the theatre. Star Wars was released at around when Moonraker went into production, it rode that tidal wave of laser blasters and space narrative. Hence, it felt like a tie-in with Star Wars to my adolescent mind, so I thoroughly enjoyed watching it in terms of relating to my love for Star Wars as well.

Thanks for this. My big takeaway is the split between the Bond you rank highly and the Bond you watch when there's chores or a 30 minute break. For me, Octopussy is the ideal "cleaning up after Christmas" movie, whereas my super sophisticated brain wants Casino Royale, Goldeneye, or From Russia with Love. As David says, there may even be times for Diamonds or a View to a Kill.

My number one is You Only Live Twice. I know it's not as popular of a choice as From Russia With Love or Goldfinger and a lot of fans don't place in the top five best movies but I love it. To me it's the ultimate James Bond movie in terms of the story and the action sequences. The one thing is missing is that none of it takes place in England. But Connery is great, the theme song and the soundtrack are perfect for the Japanese setting, it's got the best Blofeld, Tanaka is possibly the best Bond ally, Aki and Kissy have the Bond girl beauty you want even if they're not very well defined characters, Helga Brandt is a good femme fetale, Little Nelly is a cool gadget, and it has the best climax of any Bond film with the army on army battle in the SPECTRE volcano. I can watch it any time and enjoy it from start to finish.

I enjoy these discussions especially being a James Bond fan since I was 9 in 1995 starting with Goldeneye and now at 37 years old still a big Bond fan and own and seen every Bond film. My favorite Bond films from each Bond actor are Goldfinger and From Russia With Love by Sean Connery, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service- Lazenby obviously his only Bond film but he did a good job considering it was his first film role and never acted before. The Spy Who Loved Me with For Your Eyes Only being a close second favorite by Roger Moore, The Living Daylight- Timothy Dalton, Goldeneye- Pierce Brosnan and Casino Royale by far my favorite of Daniel Craig’s. My favorite Bond actor probably be Pierce Brosnan with Roger Moore and Sean Connery close behind and Daniel Craig although some of his movies are not the best still liked his interpretation of Bond.

For me the one that's been number 1 since I first saw it at the movies way back in 77-is of course The Spy Who Loved Me, followed closely by Moonraker....I know I know not the most popular of choices. One thing that David was saying is interesting about analyzing etc because I was thinking before I saw this episode it would be cool to hear the choices of you guys from a pure fun and entertainment level. How do those picks differ from those you see through critical eyes. There's no denying that Casino is a great film but I get more fun from the Brosnan films for example. Maybe that comes from my dislike of the Craig films having a story that took 15 years to tell and my preference is for the standalone stories, stunts, gadgets and humor.

AVTAK will always have a special place in my heart. I was 15 years old and it was the first 007 movie I saw. It was so cool. The opening action scene. The awesome Bond song and title sequence. The last 25 minutes of the movie is hair raising. Great action.
Moonraker, Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only join AVTAK as my favorite Roger Moore ones.
Dr. No has really grown on me. Goldfinger is great. YOLT iconic. I love. Diamonds are Forever. Those are my favorite Connery ones.
OHMSS is amazing. Different, but amazing. The scenes in Switzerland are iconic.
GoldenEye brought life back to the series. Die Another Day starts out great and kind of loses it in the final 1/3. Way too much CGI.
    CASINO ROYALE!! My favorite. #1.
    Skyfall. Amazing.

Licence to Kill, with no real hesitation. What makes it rewatchable more than others is that both Bond and Sanchez have arcs, something very few other Bond enemies have. He is also much more than a cookie cutter bad guy (like a fair few are),, he's charming, almost likeable, almost sympathetic at times. And while it is in a mexican stand off for darkest Bond film with No Time to Die, it has more light notes than you think, Joe Butcher, Trueman Lodge, Q, even Pam pretending to be the harbor pilot...and then within minutes of that, the single darkest Bond moment, the exit of Milton Krest. The title song is kinda meh, and Dalton's hair is not great..but, honestly, if that's it's worst aspects, and the main characters are interesting, it's got good rewatchability. I know the film gets dinged for looking less cinematic...but, if your in purgatory, I am assuming your probably watching it on a normal TV at best, so that 'flaw' is reduced significantly (well, fine, weak attempt to cover that flaw over, so shoot me!). But, on top of all that, in David's words..this IS 'Bad Ass Bond'!

Live and let Die! Killer Jamaica and NY locos, one of the great Bond girls, for my money one of the best (boat) chases, Baron samadi, and (slightly aggressive) Roger Moore: I like the softer Roger from his later films, but that aside it’s hard to faint!!
