    When the dagger boards are up are they completely inside the case/hull or do they protruding through the hull

    • @brentvaughan
      @brentvaughan 5 років тому +2

      that's true to some extent...the rudders are high aspect foils designed to be easier to turn at higher speeds and commonly used on racing and high performance cats. Both the rudder blade and case are carbon fibre, as are the rods that steer them. They also have the added bonus that you can raise them and drop the total draft down to just 1'9" - pretty handy when entering a shallow creek for refuge

    • @dratko1213

      Daniel Ratko when you lift the daggerboards, rudders and outboards the hull has a draft just under 2 feet...0.6m - so yes the hull would be the deepest part of the boat

    Great, finally a good video description of the 1190, thank you! With those rudders, I would like to see how the ladder works for someone to get back on the boat after a swim. Also on reliability side, what advantages and inconvenients do these rudders and daggerboards have vs the 1160 Lite?

    • @MultihullCentral1
      @MultihullCentral1  6 років тому +14

      Hi Jean-Erik, glad you like the video. The ladder is a fixed dive ladder style that is easily mounted and dismounted from the side of the bottom step. The ladder floats so no risk of it sinking. It is clipped up out of the water under the aft transom seats. The convenience of the rudders / daggerboards is that you can lift them right up high so you can get into areas with very shallow water and let the boat sit on the bottom on soft sand. ideal for sandy creeks to get out of the weather. Of course you also point higher and have less drag downwind. Disadvantage is that need to remember they are there when down as they go down to a maximum draft of 2.1m compared to 1.1m with the standard mini keel and spade rudder. Also the rudder extrudes at the stern of the boat so you need to be aware when backing into a marina berth. The spade rudder on the LITE will be more responsive when moving slower. The retractable rudders will be easier to handle when moving faster.

      @@MultihullCentral1 How much does it cost? Is it mostly E glass?

    • @SteelDoesMyWill
      @SteelDoesMyWill 4 роки тому +5

      @@hwntwww It's E-glass polyester resin, but they do use vinyl-ester resin in the outermost laminate as an osmosis barrier. I do believe there are some carbon reinforcements in the hull structure where required. Most importantly everything is laid up and put under vacuum for resin infusion. This is the smartest way to build a boat, about the lowest resin-to fiber ratio you can get. You don't need 100% carbon to make a very stiff hull unless you want to spend $1M (or way more) to win trophies. I was skeptical at first but I've come to fall in love with this boat and the manufacturer. I do wish they would just use 100% vinyl-ester resin throughout the boat, it would simplify the process and supply chain, plus the material cost difference is negligible. Dealers in the US have them listed for $380K USD, but I bet you'd save a fair chunk of change if you opted for factory delivery in Vietnam.

      Many thanks,

    • @MultihullCentral1
      @MultihullCentral1  5 років тому +2

      Ok...Daggerboards down the draft is 6'9", but with everything up draft is only 1'9"!!! The rudders are a little shallower than the daggerboards but that is inconsequential as you can lift the rudders to suit the depth you are motoring through - and help the rudders with control through the motor combination. I coudn' t decide between 1190 and 1260, yet. Why Seawind can't build in a small cockpit table at the stern, why they don't offer this daybed performance (2times in comparison to the cockpit of the 1260) in a smaller way: It is possible, so do this!
    Why can't Seawind build in a treatened window at the galley like in the 1260.
    Do that Seawind, do it. And offer an electric oven and electric engines from BYD instead of diesel motors.
    Do it, and a new customer is born.

    • @dratko1213
      @dratko1213 5 років тому +2

      Multihull Central I’m personally more interested in an electric outboard option, something like a torquedo that can give you that low draft and reduced maintenance with less hull punches. Add generator in one hull where diesel would be battery in other for balance if you needed the power. Anyone lay something like this out? I’d be interested in designing this solution. Waiting for 1190 cruising version, and especially hopefully the dagger/outboard/rudder combo makes it way up to the 1260. Maybe could push torquedo to regenerate from outboards too. Ocean volt is sweet package too, but doesn’t allow you to go shallow or dry put, plus is $$$$$.

    • @MultihullCentral1
      @MultihullCentral1  5 років тому

      Daniel Ratko yes I think that has been explored too with the Torquedoes and could be available on the 1190 Cruise version which is already available. I wouldn’t expect to see a daggerboard 1260 anytime soon however

    • @MultihullCentral1
      @MultihullCentral1  5 років тому +3

      Daniel Ratko basically it’s the same boat but with a shorter rig (same as 1160), stainless stays, and regularly glass rather than carbon reinforcement. Dacron sails rather than Arimid. But does have the dagger boards and rudders. And cheaper than 1190 sport as a result. Good package for cruisers wanting low draft 👍

    Don’t care for the barbecue in the center. Poorly thought. For someone wanting to rest on the rear seat that barbecue really is in the wrong place. Like the clean , fresh look in the interior. For 39 ft it looks as if would be just as comfortable as a 50 something footer.

      very comfy boat Paul...there is a reason why the BBQ's are positioned in the centre on the Seawinds...they entire boat was designed around it! Out of the wind, rain, has lighting, close to all. But it's all a compromise

    not impressed to be honest ... look at a Leapard for example, serious quality difference in favour of the Leopard.

      two very different boats with two very different design philosophies and priorities Neil...one designed for comfort charters and the other designed for performance sailing. The Leopard 40 (LOA 39'4") disp is 10.5 tonnes whereas the Seawind 1190 (LOA 39') is 7 tonnes. More than 30% lighter.

    God, Seawinds are UGLY, except the 1600 design.
    If they did a 40 footer in that design they would have a sale .

      Rowan King really? Harsh...compared to what other production cat does it come off looking like a block of apartments ?

      @@MultihullCentral1 With the exception of Lagoon and Bali, all of them. FP's, Leopards, Nautitechs, Balance, Outremer, Catana, Dazcat, St. Francis/Knysna all look sleek, slim, hydro and aerodynamic fit for purpose. It's that lump in the deck those hull windows make with the saloon windows stacked on top. The Seawind 1600 is the only aesthetically pleasing Seawind - no hull-window-deck-lump. But aesthetics are subjective I guess

      @@rowanking2738 Agreed, exterior design is not "shippy" even for a cat, ugly, but the 1600 nice.
