I might be so wrong, but when I first saw those pattern pieces laid out I couldn't help but think those shoulders are so wide,. Looking at the first dress the shoulder/upper bust area did look too large. I much preferred the upper fit on the second version where you used princess seams. The pattern does have some drop to the shoulder, but i much preferred the fit of your second version. I think if you were to grade in to a smaller size on the top shoulder area and out to a larger size on the bottom you'd be happier with the results. This seems to be an eternal issue for those of us who are pear shaped!!!! I do like your idea of color blocking, and that collar really is a winner. It's sort of a shame through because the color of that first dress, especially, really looked good on you! If you like the pattern, it's probably worth pursuing, but sometimes it just easier to find a better fitting pattern for a starting point. I love your adventurous spirit where sewing is concerned. I started out in sewing following every pattern instruction by the book and did that for years. I wish I'd had someone like you around to inspire me to make my own path!

Yea, I should have tried to grade between sizes. I also sewed a size 26, which is about 2 sizes bigger than I usually cut. I don't know what i was thinking with this one and don't think I'll make it again. I think the fit and flair type dress looks better on my--except not too much flair. I think part of the reason I am so adventurous is that I took up sewing so late in life, I'm making up for lost time! I'm off to tackle some pants....wish me luck!

I think your idea of the color blocking on the second dress is a great idea, but it needed to be tapered in at the waist to give you a hourglass look. Instead, it tapers in at your thighs. Loving the princess seams! I have never sewed rogue like you do, and I admire your style and how you just go off like that mixing patterns and pieces with no fear. That's a nice color on you.

Thank you for your lovely comments, I do like pink! You're right about the color blocking--i accentuated the wrong part, lol. I learned alot about what not to do on this project.

I like the fuller sleeves and the cowl neckline, in fact with a little tweaking I think this would make a great top. Love your sewing spirit of adventure btw.

I love the way it looks on you! You can always cut it and make it a top with a wide waistband.
