@Sousa Teuzii The government wants people to believe that but because some people want control it usually turns into in communism. Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of Communism.
@Sousa Teuzii Socialism is great....in theory, but look at all of the countries that have instituted full out socialism...they are all corrupt af and life is made harder for the every day person in every real world case of a fully socialist country it's hell. Something can be great in theory but if it doesn't work in real life than what's the point? Now democratic socialism is something completely different and is something that already exists in plenty western countries even when they don't refer to it as such, almost every western nation has instituted at least some level of democratic socialism.
@Sousa Teuzii You can't just have few good leader to implement socialism, every single one of your government system need to be on track and account for. It's just another look great on paper cause you're not considered how people's mind function, most get corrupt and control by power. I think the combination of capitalism and socialism such as northern europe is the best way to go rather than wanting fully anything.
@Sousa Teuzii I said only combination is great, true capitalism or heavy leaning on capitalism is so toxic and shitty aka Trump land for example as you said. North Korean is dictatorship, it's a true form of actual socialism in real life from paper aka China, Russia who are claimed to be capitalism but government running like it's medieval era.
america focuses on beauty as well. plastic surgery is a big western thing too, not just asian.. every country has their own beauty standards, just of course north korea is far more strict because you can be punished for not having the correct hairstyle or clothing or things like that

21:07 - 21:29😥 i've watched a lot of interviews with north korean escapees and they all say this. they don't hide the grimness of it, either. they state very matter-of-factly that their freedom comes at a price to someone else. breaks my heart.

Washing out rags to use as period pads is something that the mum of a friend of mine told me they had to use in England during WW2. She said that the blood would dry, causing the material to stiffen and leave welt like marks, and sometimes cuts on the inside of the thighs.

I wonder why Korea focuses so much on beauty standards. I mean beauty is great but there is more to a person than 'being beautiful'
Beauty is very important around the world and the standard of beauty is different in every place.
america focuses on beauty as well. plastic surgery is a big western thing too, not just asian.. every country has their own beauty standards, just of course north korea is far more strict because you can be punished for not having the correct hairstyle or clothing or things like that
Their beauty industry earns the country lots of money that’s why!
As long as everyone especially woman are insecure they will earn money, that's the thing
@@heejin3947 while every country has beauty standards only in South Korea is where beauty is obsessed over to a much higher degree and pitch than other nations. You cant even compare it.
There's an actual openly gay defector from north korea his name is Jang Yeong-jin his story is actually pretty interesting for anyone who's interested in learning about it ✨🌟
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out. 👍🏾🤓

I actually saw her video of her escaping from north korea she was so small back then , but she grew up , got married and has a child god bless her really she suffered so much i hope she lives happily from now onwards 🤧❤️
She's been through so much. Hope she stays safe and well~~~
All of her videos are always so interesting and fun I always watch them and come so early! Even though I have to do school😉

I'm so proud of this woman. She's a fighter!
I just like how grazy interview or discussing a topic. She doesn't discriminate, she empathy and always view the topic from different angles. Her stand point is always neutral. I can feel her sincerity and her respect towards the person she interviewed. I totally respect her!
And also, the way she construct and connect her thoughts in her videos is just amazing! She can do her makeup or mukbang while discussing a topic. Her speaking ability is so coherant and amazing!!! I wish to have some of her qualities in me!!! TT

i've watched a lot of interviews with north korean escapees and they all say this. they don't hide the grimness of it, either. they state very matter-of-factly that their freedom comes at a price to someone else. breaks my heart.
it sounds like panem from the hunger games holy shit
Well, Hunger Games is based on dictatorships' real history. Mostly about communist regimes and nazi regimes. So... Makes sense that it sounds like that :(
More like District 12, but the peacekeepers actually do their job. Panem is is incredibly frivolous and rich and luxurious in some parts, but it's entirely reliant on the sacrifices and trauma of the districts.
@@yorukaadams940 yeah. i was really struck by the fact that even basic necessities are only available to people in pyongyang. it sounds so much like the capitol of panem, with how theres plenty of food in the capitol but people are starving in many districts. i could probably write an essay for my english class about the similarities ahaha
@@yorukaadams940 No Panem is the country including all the districts, you're talking about "the capitol" which is the capital of Panem
It also really reminds me of the book 1984 by George Orwell
This was such a interesting video! I'm gonna check out her channel and I think its so brave of those who want to escape from North Korea to have a better life
I almost cried a few times... To think people are living like this... May all North Koreans be free one day.
Kim Jung un is that one kid who ppl never liked and bullied him and grew up as a villian.... like wtf did he just somewhat receive a little love at some point and loved it that much that he made a whole as country to focus on him and physically control ppl to like and love him
Its been like this for many generations kim jong un is just the current dictator
The dictatorship is passed down the kim family tree, the "founder" of north korea was kim jong un's grandfather Kim il sung.
Also he was not bullied, at all. He studied in Switzerland and was known to be a very reserved, introvert, whom only had one friend, and even that friend was kind of afraid of him.
HE probably killed them
@@MarriedWithPizza He /she telling that he is that type of person. The bullied person who recieves some friends and conquer everything mostly in good ways, but yeah bad ways are there too.
This is crazy, just yesterday I looked up her channel and watched some of her videos. And today you two collab? This is not a coincidence.
I was thinking the SAME
I'm watching the live of my favorite streamer but when i receive the notif of this, i leave and go straight here.
wow that means a lot!!! thanks Kyla💗
I follow Yeonmi for a while now. Her insights of North Korea are so interesting and shoking. I would have never imagined a collab with Grace. This is amazing!
What broke my heart was when she said her mother had never said she loved her or her father because they only save that love for their leader
She is so beautiful, strong, polite and well spoken ❤ she don't really insult her country and it's leader, just answer the questions, it really seems she just hate the system, but love all the rest of her country. Must be hard to be apart from her family but she deserves the freedom she has now.
This is so sad. In this day and age something like this still exist. Thanks Grace for making video.

Watching this video made me realize the privilege I have living in America. I may not have a lot of privlege being a black woman. But I do have the privilege to be able to wear what I want, listen to any music I want, be able to watch these videos.
I was so blessed hearing her testimonies , Thank God She Escape
I didn’t even know who this was but by the end of the video I have so much respect for this woman. For what she went through and survived, and how she is able to articulate the good and bad realities of life in North Korea. Very informative and eye opening. Power to her and praying for the people of N Korea. Gonna buy her book!

awww i had no idea she was a mom!!! shes precious. ive been binge watching her vids for weeks and had no clue she had a son. makes me so happy she's found the life she deserves. if only all North Koreans could get their freedom...
Is her son alright?
I’m so happy that two of my favorite UA-camrs collaborated omg, this was so unexpectedly but so appreciated too !!
The north korean girl is a fighter she's a warrior she's a queen. She is so brave I love how she talks with such confidence . And Grace is on fire. She is using her popularity and platform for awareness !
08:04 omg it's like in Orwell's book "1984"
I thought the same thing!!! Literally the book in real life.
I watched a documentary about this and I just wanted to cry for days, I love that you did this video, because it expands on what I saw, this is so heartbreaking.
This really helped change my perspective this is an amazing video thank you for telling us the truth I feel upset how hard it is for them and I'm glad she found freedom, can't believe she faced discrimination either she's such a strong woman really makes me count my own blessings
The level of “WOW” that Kim is attractive standard in N. Korea!
I've been interested in NK and been following Yeonmi since 2018, so thank you so much for this interview. Please do more North Korea related videos in the future if you like the idea.
it's amazing to listen to yeonmi speak about what she misses about north korea and the people she left behind when she escaped. she seems so brave and kind and honest and her activism is so inspiring. thank you for this video grace, and thank you to yeonmi for being so open and courageous
Washing out rags to use as period pads is something that the mum of a friend of mine told me they had to use in England during WW2. She said that the blood would dry, causing the material to stiffen and leave welt like marks, and sometimes cuts on the inside of the thighs.
I love the interviewer and how you humbly asked questions and didn’t judge or act so shocked at truly shocking ways of life.

My goodness she has so much wisdom. I can’t believe she’s the one who was in the viral video about North Korea. God bless her
This really broke my heart. I've watched her videos before, so I've heard plenty of stories but it never ceases to hurt my soul. The world needs to come together and free those people. Its ridiculous that this has been allowed to continue for so long and nobody is doing anything about it.

That was so eye opening!! Wow! I can’t imagine trying to live there. I pray for those poor people
YASSS I'M HERE FOR MY QUEEN!!! ❤
I have so much respect for her. Despite growing up in a country where social norms are so different, she has the drive to keep learning and understanding other cultures. It amazing how open-minded she is about concepts that were new to her like LGBTQ and human rights, because even people who are raised in developed countries could be so ignorant about them.
Thank you for doing interviews like this, Grace! You really help topics like this gain popularity.
SHE IS INTELIGENNT
Love her. As for free speech..
How did I miss this video? Great chat! She was the first North Korean defector that I saw a video on. Her story was so touching and lots of bravery. Not a lot can survive that journey. I recently saw her U.N speech again. It was short, but I cried with her again.
wow north koreans are like way behind in our time i can't imagine myself living in that lifestyle, it's really sad i hope they could have their own freedom someday.
