My cousin and I lived in the Republic of Korea for quite some time; my father was a servicemen stationed mostly in Busan and I've had relationships with Korean and Korean-American women; my cousin was married and had children with a Korean Woman. I came to this conclusion through personal observations. Plastic surgery seems a lot more common for men and women on the peninsula compared with countries like Japan. One of my coworkers did a class activity of Korean stars before-and-after plastic surgery pictures. Seems popular with vloggers from the area as well. My ex girlfriend along with vloggers I've seen underwent a procedure on their eyelids. Looks unnatural to me. It's a shame because most Korean women are natually beautiful.

Every time I watch these videos about life in NK, I find that I feel claustrophobic and immensely sad for the people there who suffer under this awful and abusive system. I'm sure that there are many people who feel that they are happy, but it has to be horribly hard.

She's not afraid because internet access and all social media are not generally available in North Korea. Only some high-level officials are allowed to access the global internet. In most universities, a small number of strictly monitored computers are provided. Other citizens may get access only to the country's national intranet

What kind of life does she have with such a husband? She had a choice. There's always a choice. It's just a really hard one, but the fact that you don't like it doesn't mean you don't have a choice. I think deep down inside she knows she made the wrong one. She probably still suffers all these years, so it didn't make any sense to sacrifice so many innocent lives for it. At least all those people would be alive and their families and friends wouldn't suffer such a loss.

It would be interesting to learn about the status and value of women in North Korean society. It seems that it is patriarchal and women fill a chattel or “possession” role. Do they have many choices? Do families arrange marriages? Is there any dating culture? Everything seems survival based due to lack of food/resources.

It would have been easier to understand the way he rules the country if he never left NK and never knew what free world looks like. But he did leave for school and got education from the normal world but all of that didn’t affect his view of the world, and how could he thinks this is an ok way to rule a country.

You have to also remember that while he is the supreme ruler, there are people around him who assist in keeping the regime alive. For example, France and Italy's healthcare system follow a socialist model and we have the 1st and 2nd best healthcare systems in the world (I'm also quite partial to it since I would have died to cancer if we followed a capitalistic healthcare model like the US)
Disability checks and welfare programs? Minimun wages? That's all socialism and for some people it spells the difference between life and death
