Irradiate only does damage to biological units, but you can target machines. A nifty trick is to cast irradiate on a tank with Defense Matrix and watch the Zerglings explode when they get into range. Or, as Boxer did, use two Scienve Vessels to target each other, and fly around your enemy's drone line; works very well if you do a little attack because it doesn't say you are under attack if it's only the splash damage that is zapping the units. Best of luck
He irradiated his own Science Vessels and plowed through the drones? I would never have thought of something like that. Not to mention the incredibly long-lasting marines.
i used this same formation for ram raides on the econamy of others once i drove a terran player out of his base by telling him he was aloud one dropship and four scv's to go make a new base then i surounded that with spider mines and a few missle turrets so he lost his dropship and then his new siege tanks then finished him of with 4 simletanius nukes in his base. never ending fun.
I'm surprised that boxer didn't sweep his opponent even earlier. That must have taken place in the mid-early portion of the game, and set his opponent back a LOT. If only Boxer could have spared a half second to order the rest of his forces in his base to assist, the game may have ended very early.
i was playing this game like crazy in 2000. i thought i was great back then. then i make a comeback last week to this game and see all this stuffs especially the strategy wiki and i feel like a complete ignorant. but im glad i get to learn these things.
@angryrantingguy they combined it because the medic was considered OP in the SC2 because of the ability to pump out 2 rines at once with a reactor, and optical flare would be even more OP since Ovies arent detectors anymore unless u upgrade them. Also with marine sheild upgrade medics would come to early on in the game making a M&M rush way to deadly

As for upgrades in TvZ, they are crucial, however this game, was in its first 10 minutes or so. As for yellow's choke usage, boxer had already wiped out his expansion (the map they played on, gaema gowon, has a path behind it, so it's very hard to defend your expansion properly, although a hatchery at the ramp leading to the path I think was popular with Junwi, who was great on that map). If If I remember correctly, he was forced to hastily pluck down those lurkers at the bottom of his ramp.
StarCraft history right here. It does look odd to see Lurkers at the bottom there. So he needed to burrow them before they got intercepted. Seems like the game was over already at this point.
Just a guess but even with the best lurker placement he could've done it looks like boxers second set of forces would have just rolled over them especially if using comsat. Watching him stretch a few Marines so far causing zerg to be distracted then noticing his army at HQ was a sign it was gg at videos start. Also you'd think lurkers would shred Marines without effort which they usually do but even without boxers micro a large amount of medics with some amateur micro to somewhat split them/Marines up can surprisingly survive pretty well against just lurkers alone. Zerg needs to back them up with a couple ultras/guardians or a couple dozen lings/hydras. Basically my unnecessarily long comment is trying to say zerg player was totally fucked no matter what. Lol. #longlivescbw @@fleebertreatise1063
@xXSwizzahXx About starting at 1:00, Zerglings and Lurkers are constantly harassing little group of marines and medics he has left, but he's able to fend off most of the Zerglings and also prevent Zerg player from mining by hogging the left side of the minerals where he kills several drones. In the end, he does lose his marines at 2:30, but he finishes the Zerg player off by equipping the Sci Vessels with irradiate and essentially destroying all the miners.
it surround an unit, friendly or enemy unit. then the unit becomes a hot ball, damage any living units around it (doesnt work on mechanical units).it works great on zergs, cauz they are none mechanical creature. in this video he did it on his own science vessle and killed all the zerg drone.
Just 'cause it's over 10 years old, it doesn't mean it's down and out. It's a game that started all the other strategy games with similar gameplay, but some today still can't keep up to par with this one. There are still people who still consider this game awesome, you know.
He still plays professionally. He got out of the Air Force late 08 or early 09 (don't remember which) and now plays for the same team he did before he went in. He is very far from top form though. I expect he will have a revival when SCII comes out, assuming it is competitive of course.
He was being aggressive with the lurkers in order to push boxer out of his natural expansion so he could take it back. Not to gain any sort of terrain advantage. Map is Gaema Gowon I think... very similar to fantasy... Also, this terrain stuff you guys are talking about, seabard is most definitely correct. There is a 70% chance of being hit when you are in a tree or up a cliff. So learn more about the game you've been playing since you were a kid rex.
I don't understand how great this was... In my opinion his zerg opponent never had an optimal amount of zerg forces to crush the amount of units boxer had... and he kept just sending the zerg units to their death a few at a time. If he had just gotten a few more and sent a larger attack at boxer's rines he could have easily killed him.
they are removed from SC2 as of the 2010 beta. However they are almost definitely still available in map editor. Though, if they're able to move underground that'd make them sort of insanely overpowered.
you can cast irradiate on any unit. however, it will only have effect on biological units, and the biological units around. therefore, since the science vessel is mechanical, it is able to be irradiated without suffering any effect. however, since boxer being as innovative as he is, ran his irradiated sv's over the drones, the drones felt the effect of the irradiation.
I come back to this every once in a while. Simply the greatest game ever made.
Man, that was awesome, I love how he irradiated two of his vessels and just mowed down the drones and lurkers XD
Pure genius!

Isn’t it 50% less chance to get hit on high ground?

That science vessel irradiate thing was amazing. I didn't even know you could do that.
From the moment boxer got marines into the zerg base he won because he distracted the zerg enough so he could bring in a large force.
You know that the player will lose when he it takes a lot of effort to destroy a simple small marine/medic group.
