Sarah is honestly one of the main reasons why I perform my poetry. When my 8th grade English teacher introduced me to Spoken Word Poetry, I went home and looked it up on UA-cam. She was the first video I saw. And even though I have seen many amazing performers and poets, I always end up back here, with Sarah. So, Thankyou Sarah, for inspiring me to write and perform my poetry for 3 years now.
I've never seen this particular kind of "poetry" before- it honestly comes across a lot more like skit/scene for drama- and while I was skeptical when I began watching, I ended up really drawn into it. The feelings you touched on- listening just to wait for a chance to talk again, etc- the way you bounced from a historical event to your own feelings... without getting too emo... it was brilliant. I am well and truly impressed- and personally touched. And I'm not big on non-rhyming poetry :)
today is the first time hearing her and she has such a peacfulness about her that forces you to listen to every word and have understanding. love her poetry officially hooked. Can't even 'member how i found her.
When my grandpa died I was only 5 years old but I took my mom by the hand and told her ‘don’t worry he’ll come back as a baby.’ And yet for someone who has apparently done this before I still haven’t figured anything out yet. My knees still buckle every time I get on a stage, my self confidence can be measured out in teaspoons mixed into my poetry and it still always tastes funny in my mouth. But in Hiroshima some people were wiped clean away…leaving only a wristwatch,
@bkershaccount It's a genre of poetry. It's spoken word. Her poem has rhythm, and a certain flow, but it doesn't rhyme. Most people associate it with limericks, as in having stanzas and an a b a b or a b c a b c pattern. But this, this is poetry.
@NegligentHomicide Poetry, dancing and singing are three completely different things. Some people will never be able to do any of the three. She has a good voice and a passion for poetry, but not everyone does. It is the same with singing and dancing. There are always people that do it for fun and others that will deticate their lifes to it and make it their profession even. That is when, atleast to me, they are equally hard. Perfection takes time.
@robert2bfootball Yeah. Right. This is poetry at it's finest, it's beautiful. The imagery is spectacular. You're close-minded for thinking this isn't poetry.
Arguing what qualifies as a poem, to me, is simply like arguing what qualifies as a song, or art... and we simply cannot accept different point of view and we have to fight until others agree with you and admit that you're righter, smarter, more knowledgeable, or even better... But does that even matter when there is a voice behind all these? There is a thought, an opinion, a story inside and I think it's more important than anything
im sorry someone has to explain this kind of free verse to me. it seriously sounds like something i could write in an essay and then just like....say it out loud. if someone could point me to the intriguing quality this has or what makes it stand out id like to know
But I see the impossible every day. Impossible is trying to connect in this world. Trying to hold onto others while things are blowing up around you, knowing that while you’re speaking they aren’t just waiting for their turn to talk. They hear you. They feel exactly what you feel at the same time that you feel it. It’s what I strive for every time that I open my mouth. That impossible connection. There’s this piece of wall in Hiroshima that was completely burnt black by the radiation
When they bombed Hiroshima, the explosion formed a mini super nova so that every living animal, human, or plant that received direct contact from the rays of that sun was instantly turned to ash. What was left of the city soon followed; the long lasting damage of nuclear radiation caused an entire city and its population to turn into powder. When I was born my mom says I looked around the whole hospital room with a stare that said ‘this? I’ve done this before’ she says that I have old eyes.
@hayabusa118 free verse poem = politician's way of saying she's telling a story with emotion....i'm lazy, but i don't call myself a convenience enthusiast
a diary page, the mud flap to a bicycle. So, no matter that I have inhibitions to fill all my pockets I keep trying, hoping that one day I’ll find a poem that I can be proud to let sit in a museum exhibit as the only proof I existed. My parents named me Sarah, which is a biblical name. In the original story God told Sarah that she could do something impossible and she laughed, cause the first Sarah, she didn’t know what to do with impossible. And me? Well, neither do I.
instant I get to share your present and you, you get to share part of mine and that is the greatest present of all. So if you tell me I can do the impossible, I’ll probably laugh at you. I don’t know if I can change the world, yet; cause I don’t know that much about it. And I don’t know that much about reincarnation either but if you make me laugh hard enough sometimes I forget what century I’m in. This isn’t my first time here,
@TeamLondon1 yep, pretty good story with beautiful meaning and emotion, but still not a poem, in my opinion. i thought the speech by william wallace, in the movie braveheart w/ mel gibson, was a beautiful and emotional piece of expression, but it's not a poem. i would replace the word "romance" with "poem" in your above comment. once again, just my opinion.
@ItsTylerMarie ya, i get it. i know what "free verse" poetry "is". i get there is rhythym here, i even mentioned her cadence. my point is, i don't agree that free verse poetry is poetry. that's my opinion. i get all the rules associated with what technicallly qualifies these days, and i think it's a bunch of bullshit.
For those who believe in reincarnation the bible says in Hebrews 9:27-28 27.And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, 28.so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
@SpottedAssedApe roses are red, violets are blue, SpottedAssedApe has an IQ of 2. my traditionalist stance covers all classifications of poetry up to, but excluding, free verse, bc TO ME the idea of "free" verse doesn't qualify. so pick any poem that follows any of the guidelines of different types of poetry EXCEPT FREE VERSE and that is what my opinion of poetry is. your initial comment took the pro-side of free verse by proxy.
how is this poetry...this is just a normal story being spoken with emotion, hand gestures, and heavy breathing. i think it was interesting, but not poetry. i could read my shopping list in this cadence
is it her job to write a poem about everything? you write a poem about the sailors and civillians killed in the "sneak attack (learn history) and she'll write a poem about her experiences.

I love listening to her perform because she does it with so much emotion. It's beautiful.

I hope she publishes. She is that good. Go Sarah!
BEAUTIFUL! I think I'm going to cry.. BRILLIANT!
What an amazing poem.
Definitely one of my favorites.
beautiful, and honest.
spoken word is the best kind of poetry.
That was amazing... and utterly mesmerizing.
Loveddd!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is amazing, she is true talent, tv should do poetry competition rather than singing competitions.
What is poetry if not a story? A confluence of emotion and imagery capturing a moment in time, recognized in the present.
This is probably the best thing ive ever heard in my life!

I've never been drove to tears by poetry until this day...

this isn’t my last time here, these aren’t the last words I’ll share. But just in case I’m trying my hardest to get it right this time around.
im sorry someone has to explain this kind of free verse to me. it seriously sounds like something i could write in an essay and then just like....say it out loud. if someone could point me to the intriguing quality this has or what makes it stand out id like to know

@acrmd It's a spoken word poem... A little different style than generic poems.
I hate poetry, but i like whatever this is, :), great job
I don't know what to say. I believe every word she says. Cuz this is exactly the way I see stuff. But she worded iti net

During your performance of Hiroshima did you worry about BOMBING ?
Japan.
Then write one.
Mice job
@glittle89 yep, she's a writer full of passion, but not much of a poet
American like war war is no good sorry 4 hiroshima i like you you good bravo
@NegligentHomicide Poetry takes a different kind of talent than singing or dancing, not necessarily more.
i'm pretty sure you missed the point honey
😂
Free verse poetry isn't poetry? I guess we better start asking publishing companies to rename the genre of The Wasteland.
It into something better
4 American veterans did not like this poem.
uhm...If it doesn't Ryhme its not a poem...You're just talking
I'm new to standup poetry, but gestures for the sake of gesturing... not really supporting what she says. But thanks for the vid anyway (-:
how is this poetry...this is just a normal story being spoken with emotion, hand gestures, and heavy breathing. i think it was interesting, but not poetry. i could read my shopping list in this cadence
GARBAGE!!!!
