  • In the first of 2 installments of this series, you will see the steeple cab pulling 2 new cars that were built this year. The first one is a gondola type car that is used for hauling tools needed for track maintenance, and the 2nd car is a bottom dump hopper used for moving soil or rock. Both of these cars are double truck, unlike many of the other cars on the line which gives them ability to handle much more weight with less chance of derailing. 2nd video to come later. Enjoy!

    This is just outstanding. How many acres does the RR sit on? Would love to hear about the history behind your railroad.

      It on about 15 acres. I'll make a history video one of these days. Probably should next year since it will be the 70th anniversary!

    I think the most impressive thing is all the overhead wiring. Is the railway just a hobby or does it have some form of commercial/public use as well?

    Really cool set up !
    I didn't realize your line was electrified ? Until this video...the one I watched yesterday was the " Cab ride view" therefore I couldn't see what type of power you were using.
    Really really cool layout... How many acres do you have for all that track ?
    I've been thinking about doing this on my 10 acres of woods being I have all the equipment necessary for the excavating 🤣

    Words can of describe how much I love this little railway. I’m rather curious about the track to the right at 1:05, washed out I take it?

    • @CNW4145
      @CNW4145  3 роки тому +4

      That track was originally a maintenance trestle. Years ago the creek was about 50 feet from the track, which went up an incline made of 6x6's. It was open on the bottom and we used this to do work under the equipment. Eventually the creek shifted locations and now is eating away at the bank, the maintenance trestle itself was consumed by the creek about 5 years ago. I have left the track and switch in place to dump rip rap along the bank as I acquire it, this has pretty much stopped the advancement of the bank decay. Without it, the mainline itself would be gone in a few more years!

    Where is this located and what purpose was this rail line originally built for ? How are you paying for it's upkeep now ? It certainly isn't a freight line !

    What kind of traction motors do you use and where do you get them? Are they capable of dynamic breaking?

    • @CNW4145
      @CNW4145  2 роки тому +1

      They are golf cart motors. DB could be added with a little extra circuitry.

    What guage tracks are you using an where do I find ?

    • @CNW4145
      @CNW4145  2 роки тому +3

      It is 24" gauge. Most of the rail came from abandoned mines or factories.

    Why don't you build carriages to haul visitors around, why just have the fun for yourself? You could also make some MONEY of (at reasonable prices that all could easily afford) of offering rides in that nice countryside. Be worth considering.

    • @CNW4145
      @CNW4145  2 роки тому +4

      The problem is that here in the USA it requires a LOT of liability insurance because people here like to sue you for silly reasons. So it is not really possible to make enough money to cover that, and I do not need all the drama that comes with the public..
